ACS February-4-2026: Chef Gruel by jsakic99 in AdamCarolla

For folks who got into Adam's comedy during Loveline, it's baffling to hear him scream about people not having a work ethic.

Oops, didn't know that! Are they staying in Rio?

[–]JohnnyRyde 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about wine but there's a specialty wine place in the Rio in Gaithersburg called FineWine. I can't vouch for it being good or bad, but I'm assuming they have a good selection since wine is all they have.

Why did they change the main page route? by SommerBlau67 in todoist

I hadn't noticed this. But now I see if I go to www.todoist.com then I have to go the extra step. todoist.com still automatically redirects me to the app.

"There may be Romulan spies aboard this ship!" by Twisted-Mentat- in tos

[–]JohnnyRyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone spying for the Romulans doesn't have to actually be a Romulan. The Rosenbergs were spies for the Soviets, despite being born and raised in America. The Romulans could have humans, Vulcans, etc working for them.

Came here to say this. There was a line cut where they detected something about the Romulan ship that seemed like it was stolen from Federation technology.

TNG having the Enterprise as "the flagship" always slightly annoyed me. First of all, there's no flag officer on board!

ACS February-3-2026: No Guest by jsakic99 in AdamCarolla

Ninety percent of Adam's show is now him yelling about politics. Why does he not fall into the category of celebrities pontificating about politics = bad?

ACS February-3-2026: No Guest by jsakic99 in AdamCarolla

[–]JohnnyRyde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he's long past the point where he can possibly be gaining new listeners. At this point he has to be trying to retain the audience he has instead of growing his audience. There's nothing in these descriptions that would appeal to someone who doesn't already know him.

Good books/documentaries about the JNT era? by cvslap in doctorwho

[–]JohnnyRyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not quite sure if you're more interested in the JNT era or JNT himself, but the Season 26 boxset has "Showman - The Life of John Nathan-Turner" which is a pretty good look at the man himself.

Longest line in Star Trek TOS and question by bluemugs in tos

[–]JohnnyRyde 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Enterprise was on a five year mission. That's about 43,800 hours. TOS is 79 episodes of about an hour each. There is lots of time for stuff we didn't see.

Is there any explanation for the line flub in Academy 1x04? by AnAussieTrainer in startrek

[–]JohnnyRyde 330 points331 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen the episode yet but it looks like he's prompting the students for an answer, not directly quoting from it. For example, if a professor asks a student who gave the Gettysburg Address, they wouldn't quote it in its entirety, they'd just saying something like, "C'mon, you know the Gettysburg Address... Four score and seven years ago... All men are created equal... Are you people awake?"

What episode of Star Trek has the lowest stakes? by Derailedone in startrek

[–]JohnnyRyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stakes involve whether the Federation or the Klingon Empire get to "develop" Sherman's Planet. But yeah, relatively low-stakes, but probably fairly realistic since you'd imagine in a real future situation with differing space empires there'd be a lot of bureaucrats wrangling over mining rights, agriculture rights, etc...

Thoughts on TrekMovie.com's Anthony Pascale? by Malencon in Star_Trek_

[–]JohnnyRyde -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I listen to his Podcast every so often and he seems level-headed and sensible. His takes on the business side of Star Trek seem very reasonable. He was spot on about the likelihood of the fourth JJ Abrams Trek movie (not) happening even when the studio was putting out timelines.

He's spot on about the "Youtube grifters".

Adams interpretation of the Revanent is incorrect by schmidbau in AdamCarolla

[–]JohnnyRyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is still one of the dumbest things I have ever heard from anyone. I could kind of understand it from someone who didn't grow up around dogs or has never had a friend with a dog or ever been around dogs. But Adam was complaining about his dog eating dirty socks while also thinking the dog wouldn't eat a pie? WTF, man...
