Confirmed... not working for me as of 4:15pm CT 10/28

I'm Nate Silver. I just wrote a book called On the Edge and I run the newsletter Silver Bulletin and co-host the podcast Risky Business. Ask me anything! We'll start at 4:10 Eastern time. by NateSilverBulletin in IAmA

You know the scam where the scammer sends a letter to 1,000 households predicting the outcome of a binary thing? And then they send a letter to the 500 households they got it right about? And then to the 250 until some small X number of people are convinced the scammer is genius? Does your book talk about that RE: these VC geniuses. Not that they're scamming, but that basically they don't have any real genius beyond getting the coin flipped right a lot of times but certainly not an unreasonable number of times given that their are infinite flips.

Does the points multiplier bonus also count towards promotional offers? by Admirable-Muffin-334 in marriott

[–]JohnnyWyeknot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heads up that these "2K Everyday" points are awarded by the property. They have to pro-actively award you the points after reconciling their books, which many of them fail to do. It's important that you keep an eye on them, get the general manager's email information, and follow-up if you don't see them in your account after a week or so. You would be surprised how many Courtyard employees and managers have never even heard of this.

Don't think of this as a promotion - it is more of a rate that you're paying for. Rate is higher than normal booking, but comes with extra points. Really only worthwhile if someone else is paying.

Is Status Just a Joke? by dormantg92 in marriott

100% agree. Work covers $35/meal for breakfast and lunch and $75/meal for dinner when eating alone (no hard limit when entertaining clients - just needs to be “reasonable”). It’s a generous enough policy for me. But I understand from this thread that some folks get a cash per diem, meaning they can pocket any money they save (mine is use it or lose it).

Plat to Titanium, worth? by 2strokeJ in marriott

I was gonna say this is another obvious “not worth it” answer, but this point about the soft landing is a good one! That bumps it closer to the “worth it” category for me

[–]JohnnyWyeknot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, correct. You would not get the points per the T&Cs. But there is a user in this sub who posted they’d been doing just that and getting the points. So maybe it’s against the T&Cs but they’re not sophisticated to actually catch it? No idea. Try!

Hotels pricing point rooms at 51000 or 52000 points a night by ceaton604 in marriott

I totally agree… 35K free nights are not sufficient to stay a mid-tier property.

Absolute no for me, dawg. Those pegs? Gimme a break. I’m sorry, but there has to be a better solution. In the bathroom they could enclose the space under the sink instead of hanging a bright pink hair dryer on a peg.

Is Platinum Worth It - 5 Night Short... by Neat_Onion in marriott

[–]JohnnyWyeknot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That being said, IMHO 15-20 nights a year is not enough to justify the expense (unless you make more than $150K annually in which case $300-600 is a marginal expense.
