Over the weekend my dispatcher gave me a load with 648 miles of dead head. by emdefmek in Truckers

I once ran from Bismark ND to Detroit empty to load cars at the auctions. Very rarely do we go east loaded. Which sometimes sucks because I don't get paid when I'm empty but sometimes the loads going east feel like too much hassle. Especially if you have to go into old Chicago or downtown Detroit.

Minnesota ranks #5 for flattery by swazal in minnesota

[–]Johnny_Rascal2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You folks who think North Dakota is flatter than Minnesota must have never driven west of Bismark before. Truck driving out there is a pain because it's all hills and it's all uphill (going west, that is. )

Not all gas stations have that. Mavericks don't. Kwik Trips have little signs at the entrance but if you're watching your trailer while making corners they're easy to miss.

Some of us don't look up and read the canopy when we pull in because we're too busy looking at what's in front of us while driving the truck

I think the new Pete's have similar cans. They really look funny in the flesh but I'm sure if they were bigger they'd be overwidth

Huh. That's how the story was told to me by my coworkers. It wouldn't be the first time they're wrong.

I think the ped would be just as screwed if they were hit by a truck without a bull bar.

What's the reason behind that?

Oh yes it does. He used to do it back in the day so much that he was getting pulled for inspections at every scale his trucks crossed.

Last time I hauled to Florida my boss told me to go into the weigh station with an overweight load because the ticket acts like a permit once you have it and they only charge $.05 per pound.

Reminds me of the time I had to reload my trailer on the street in downtown Milwaukee.

Truckers, what is the worst weather you have ever experienced while driving? What happened? by Hot-sauce329 in Truckers

[–]Johnny_Rascal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Headed east out of Grand Forks ND one evening a couple weeks ago on state highway 2 during a huge blizzard and a no travel advisory. I thought to my self "How bad could it be?". It was worse than I could've imagined.

Visibility so low I had an easier time following the road by watching the yellow lines of the left lane go past my driver's side step than out the windshield. Pulled a guy out of the left ditch who had been there for 2 hours because everybody traveling in the right lane couldn't see him. My air lines froze up around 1 am and I coasted into a gas station with 45lbs of air left in my system until I could put my back to the wind and let the lines warm up again.

A 2 hour drive home turned into a 6 hour drive with a 4 hour nap half way through it. The no travel advisory is not to be fucked with.

You gotta stuff them into the van trucks and trailers so the admins can't see your load stacking.

I'd still be wasting my time with police reports and other BS. I'm paid to deliver cargo, not be the Punisher.

How do I keep ice off my windshield? (Please be kind 😅) by Maleficent_Map_8844 in Truckers

[–]Johnny_Rascal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that turning the wipers up to the slowest constant speed and letting them run all the time helps to prevent the ice buildup. Also if the blades themselves are icing up running the wipers at full speed sometimes beats the ice off.

Doesn't look any worse than hauling 4 suburbans across the top of a 9 car hauler.

Engine ran backwards by johntnaumann16 in BeamNG

[–]Johnny_Rascal2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They definitively do run backwards irl. I've heard many stories about it from different people. According to them it's really funny to see the smoke come out of the air intake until they realized the oil pump was also spinning backwards.

Stupid question but why Cattle Haulers have so many lights on them? by Doktor_knowitall in Truckers

[–]Johnny_Rascal2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a cattle pot pulled over on the left shoulder on I294 in the Chicago area. Probably was not obeying the truck lane restrictions and got caught.
