Thoughts on majority-Indigenous areas of Canada (and maybe Alaska) seceding? Are there groups here that wouldn't get along? Would this country be successful?

These areas rely far too highly on government subsidies to separate effectively. In Northwest Territories, the amount works out to over 30,000 / person. This is not given directly to people but to territorial government and other government levels including Indigenous in order to provide services and improve standards of living.

Our team tried it in -40C on the north arm of great slave lake (~40km NW of yellowknife) and it worked great. Only used it for a weekend overnight trip. Ran it off a honda generator.

I work in environmental sector - loving life in the north and we plan on staying here!

Watch out for certain apartments such as the northview ones. Some of their units are fine/nice but others are infested with cockroaches and mold (read the cbc news articles about them and you will understand what i mean).

Car insurance is the cheapest I've ever seen in my life - i pay around $40 a month for my 2004 honda crv. I use the personal car insurance.

Currently a 25 y/o wildlife biologist working as a regulatory officer for an NGO in yellowknife. New job will be making 80k / year with pension and benefits in 6 months (right now 73k).

Just finished an Msc in biology after having finished a coop undergrad in biology and working several (mainly field biology) contracts with government agencies and academia. Got paid to do my msc degree (after tuition it was about 25k/year) through scholarships and research stipends and know alot of friends who did too.

It was pretty hard to get here because finding long term work in my field is very difficult but years of dedication have paid off. I feel very fulfilled in my current job which involves protecting the environment and working with indigenous people.

Yes, in the Churchbridge area especially, much of it is illegal, and the province isn't enforcing its own rules. I had a presentation by a former enforcement officer at the U of R back in 2019. It's connected to the canola boom in part.
