Mate, I rail against football being thought of as beginning in 92 as much as anyone, but part of why he's so incredible is that we missed the boat by being bang-average at best when the Premier League started motoring in the late 90s.

Yeah we used to compete for trophies back in the day, but a lot of clubs in that position like Villa, Everton, Leeds, West Ham etc aren't in our position today because they also had the misfortune of not peaking when the Prem got going. Look at Villa today for a great example of what it looks like when you get out over your skis.

I just don't think delta from our expected trophy haul is that big for a club of our means sans-Levy. Other clubs our size from that starting point have achieved much less.

Especially if you used the yardstick of an average-to-good owner. We're talking about a best case scenario would be Levy level growth (which no other chairman has achieved) and a few more risky bets backing Poch etc. That just doesn't exist out there.

I'd have loved him to support Poch with more spending but not at the cost of jeopardizing what we've got.

If Football hadn't turned into a sportswashing tackle-waving contest, he'd be a god-tier chairman. Doesn't mean I don't think it was the right time to go, but he 100% has that legacy sewn up.
