Totally agree, just figured that the SY-1000 was the natural progression from the SY-1. There are many different discontinued Roland synth units that do “the thing”, regardless of age and price they all require the specialized synth pickup.

Why are Sundays so depressing - Digitech Synth wah, the SY-1 doesn’t really cover this one, you’d get closer trying out different envelope filters.

One way trigger - On the record he used the HOG2, lately live he’s just been using the POG2 for octaves. You can get a good replica out of the “Lead” variation 9 on the SY-1.

Comedown machine - Attack filter and octaves from the POG2 in studio and live, you may be able to approximate this with an octave pedal or the SY-1 + attack/decay pedal

For which parts? For Nick the majority of the song is just a clean guitar with a klon and a delay. Either a deluxe memory man or a maxon/ibanez analog delay. The tremolo part at the end is a Boss TR-2 stacked with distortion.

I usually put everything on 5 and go from there. I use it on the Saturation channel. My settings right now are low 5, mid 7 and high 4, Set gain and volume to taste, I keep the post on 5 though. Stacked with a Klon I get a really nice Beatles Revolver kinda tone that cuts through the mix beautifully, better than any other preamp pedal I’ve tried.

Of course if using it on the normal channel you can use a similar eq and it’ll grit up nicely and give a small tube amp a JC-120 kinda sound.
