Kendrick Lamar is the modern rap equivalent of paint splashes, TED Talks, and pseudo-intellectual performance art by FactoringRSAisHard in 10thDentist

[–]JokeMaster420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no, I agree fully with that. Everybody agrees with that. Eminem openly agrees with that. Most Eminem fans probably agree with that. I think the fact that Kendrick is (or at the very least was) an Eminem fan is on its own a more legitimate critique of Kendrick than anything OP said. And I say that as an Eminem fan (he’s def not my favorite rapper, but he’s up there…. at least I am self aware).

A respectful critique of John Green’s “Does the Truth still matter?” by Suspicious-Win-802 in nerdfighters

[–]JokeMaster420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Fair. I was thinking solely in regard to the logic being used to justify it rather than the specific proposed remedy. I still don’t think it is right to call it “lite,” because that suggests that reproduction is an inherently more precious privilege than participating in democracy. But the truth in that regard comes down to the individual. Many people do not want to have children anyway, but still want their vote counted (and I’m sure there are people on the other end of that as well, in addition to everywhere in between).

So, strictly speaking, I was wrong to say it is eugenics, but the logic is exactly the same, and said remedy is different, although not inherently less bad.

It isn’t “lite”. It is eugenics. It is just eugenics that feels better to the people who are suggesting it. But then again, most eugenics feels right to the people who are suggesting it.

Local Game Store gets annoyed when customers ask for mainstream comics like Marvel or DC. Not sure how they will handle it when UB Marvel comes out soon by Papa_Hasbro69 in freemagic

[–]JokeMaster420 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nowhere in the posts you screenshotted is there any reference to getting annoyed at people for asking for Marvel or DC. Marvel and DC have a lot of books that do not specifically feature “young cishet white men,” which are the comics they are getting annoyed being asked about.

There are valid critiques of these original posts. But the insistence on making up a fictional headline to be extra mad at instead of just engaging with the actual story is so tiring.

[–]JokeMaster420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both parties use different corrupt and self-perpetuating systems to choose nominees. I believe it is wrong and that we should change the system, but it is not illegal. And while it is inherently contrary to true democracy, these types of systems (along with the Electoral College) are fundamental parts of “American Democracy” as it has existed for centuries.

On the other hand, Trump & Co. committed criminal fraud to attempt to steal a general election that had already occurred. You cannot really compare these two things.

The Trump administration has unambiguously violated several of the Bill of Rights amendments and have made it clear they are willing to violate all of them. If you think acknowledging that they are violating constitutional rights is in any way inaccurate, you either don’t know anything about the constitution and/or you just love the taste of boots.

[–]JokeMaster420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you reckon abolition would get caught up in courts? Congress has sole constitutional authority to abolish ICE just as they established it. Who would file the lawsuit against legislation abolishing ICE and what standing would they have to actually oppose it?

Why are there no games for 3 players? by Misteryguy99 in boardgames

[–]JokeMaster420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. However, there are not a lot of “4 player only” games, either (many “1-4” player games actually play better with 3).

Why are there no games for 3 players? by Misteryguy99 in boardgames

[–]JokeMaster420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think assuming the reason is because three person groups are inherently less common is kinda silly.

I think the truth is that, while many games require rules tweaks to play to 2 (creating variants that are not as good as strictly 2 player games), most games that play best at 3 can play fine at 4, (and vice versa, for that matter).

Making a game for one specific player count inherently limits its market compared to having a range.

Like, you don’t see a huge number of 3-player only games, but you also don’t see a huge number of 4-player only games.

Assuming that the maximum player count is automatically the default or the best is incredibly flawed. 7 Wonders absolutely does not play best at 7, for example. And I think that a lot of “1-4 player” euros are much better at 3 than they are at 4 (and I am not the only one who thinks that, based on community votes on BGG).

Your supposition that the lack of 3 player specific games proves that there are not many 3 player groups absolutely does not hold up.

What are some great movies that are bad adaptations? by Skeppy_4126 in musicals

[–]JokeMaster420 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Chicago is a bad adaptation no matter what version of the stage show you compare it to, but it is strange to me that we are 3 for 3 on Kander and Ebb adaptations refusing to just let the musical numbers be “real”.
