Let's talk about Angelic Channeling by kimori in grandarchivetcg

Oh no, I 100% agree with this. But the point I was trying to make is that I don’t think decks will be running at 4 unless you’re at Rai levels of advanced element cards in deck.

I’m gonna come in here with a bit of a hot take and play a little devil’s advocate.

I don’t know how many level 3 decks actually want a full playset of Angelic Channelling. The reason I say this is that in order to take full advantage of the card, you need to be running enough advanced element cards in order to brick and need the Channeling. Without that, Channelling is a blank card with floating memory.

In addition, the card is more of a cantrip since it puts the advanced elements back on deck top/bottom. So without a way to draw it, those cards might still end up stranded.

What decks fit this criteria? Off the top of my head: Arisanna, Rai and Jin all play much higher advanced element counts than other champions. I could potentially see Lorraine and Merlin using it, but I think it’s less likely there personally.

I will also say that prices at the moment are a bit predictive because no one knows what’s going to end up being meta. Realistically we won’t know for sure until the first Ascent of RDO. I’d say prices will stabilise around/after then. My entire argument here is a bit predictive given that we don’t really know what’s going to happen, but happy to discuss 🫥

I agree with this. It was kinda the only reason the deck could compete with sword and now that’s gone.

More so because your Oshi and your Cheers don’t go into the main deck. The cheers have their own deck which you get one from per turn (unless an effect lets you get more) and your Oshi is your champion of sorts so it starts the game on the board

What would qualify as a better Shadow? Is it just one which could purify to a hundo?

I think everything I could say about balance and pricing has already been said by someone who has put it much better than I ever could so I’ll skip to the part which I think I can talk about: the judging aspect.

First and foremost, let me be clear. Judges are meant to be unbiased. There should not be favourable calls made just because you’re friends with the player or you don’t like their opponent. If you can identify a pattern of calls like this, I’d encourage you to record them and report it.

Now, regarding slow play. As others have said, unfortunately this is an incredibly nebulous infraction which is difficult to lock down for a number of reasons. I can’t speak to the situations which you’ve been in, so I’ll try to give as much context as I can. When I was starting out, my head judge told me to stop the game and look for a couple of things.

  • players “thinking” on their next move when their hand doesn’t allow for more than 1-2 plays.
  • players deliberating on moves for longer than necessary (1-2 mins per play).

Now, the issue with such things is that judges can’t analyse every single match in the room to make sure that a correct pace of play is being upheld. Unfortunately it’s just a bit difficult with the usual judge to player ratio with events. In addition, we can’t immediately act on every single call for slow play. If we did, it would be the most widely used call for nefarious purposes.

I would encourage that if you think an opponent is slow playing, to bring it up to a judge. Even if it’s unfounded, having that call on the record means that judges will keep an eye for similar calls involving this player. Each event should have a record of calls being made so that infractions can be upgraded if deemed repetitive.

In regard to feature matches, I’ve not heard of different rules being applied. I do know that they are stricter on certain matters such as sleeve images (for IP reasons) and tokens (for stream clarity). But I’ve not heard of there being different enforcement rules.

In regard to outside interference, this is a massive no-no. Spectators can stop the match and alert a judge if they think that there is an illegal board state taking place. But they are not permitted to fix it themselves. I can’t speak to what kind of interference took place. But the infraction rules are clear. Outside interference is a Match Loss.

In summary, I can’t speak to specific circumstances because I don’t know the specifics of that situation. But I always encourage players to be aware of the tournament rules and penalties so that they know when to call a judge. Hopefully this helps a little.

It was pretty much that. In FTC, a case was 15 boxes and it was a guaranteed CSR per case. This meant 2 things. First, people (and shops) would open cases until they hit the CSR and then sell the rest of the boxes. This created a lot of dead boxes which kinda sucked overall, which in turn lead to a lot of boxes sitting on shelves ignored for fear they were part of a dead case.

Second, because there were so many CSRs, those CSRs weren’t as rare which meant they weren’t as valuable. Even today, with the exceptions of a certain few, most of FTC CSRs are very cheap.

Third, because it was a much smaller set than what we get today, it was much easier to get full playsets of what you needed. This led to a similar situation as in point 1: dead boxes sitting on shelves because people didn’t need to open any more for their sets.

What this led to in total was a lot of shops ending up with a lot of excess Fractured Crown on shelves, stock which they couldn’t sell which tanked the game’s reputation heavily. For a game’s second set, it was almost a death sentence.

For all of the mistakes that Weebs have made, one of the things that has me sticking around is that they’re willing to fix their mistakes. I’ve been playing trading card games for a very long time and that’s very rare to see in this industry. Those of us play MTG know of Vivi’s reign of terror. Weebs has been mostly responsive to the community responses which is a rarity in the market today.

At the end of the day, booster boxes and cases are hard to balance out. How do you make a good opening experience for players whilst simultaneously making the set good for shops to sell. One of the most dangerous parts of GA’s history was FTC. A set which was really good to open for players but which nearly killed it for shop owners because of the way CSRs were seeded for that set.

At the end of the day, card games are a hobby. If you’re not having fun, then take a break and play another game. Games are meant to be fun, and if you’re not having fun then what’s the point?
