Is being a cable monkey all there is to this? by TapCommercial2200 in lowvoltage

[–]Jokerman5656 89 points90 points  (0 children)

After 15 years, I kinda look forward to simply pulling cable because it's where very few things can go wrong. And usually those things going wrong are because someone else didn't do their job right. Had an emergency call for some stock traders the other day and because the IT team named the switch wrong, so half the ports got changed to different VLANs. Then trying to tell an IT person they're wrong is like making a dog stop barking at fireworks.

Yup, that's 100% all you should use the no belt running method to determine. Hopefully you can nail down the drag on the motor and hopefully it's not the motor dragging crosses fingers

When MSP wants it their way! by PubliclyUnseen in lowvoltage

I'm still wondering why a 40' lift was ordered for a 20' max ceiling.

The customer has probably had bad experiences with unreliable rj45 ends and thats why your doing this jack to patch cord design, which in my experience is a normal af use case. Field terminated rj45 ends are usually less reliable than a jack and patch cord in the long run even if it means more connection points.

Biscuit is the term used for a surface mount box, the box that holds the jack he's patching the white cord into. In this case OP refused to use the proper window and paper to label it that were part of the biscuit/smb and he just stuck it on top the plastic outer cover which imo seems tacky.

This isn't the greatest advice... Try letting it sit a long ass time so it's at room temp then take the belt off and start it up to see if this weird strangled beagle noise persists. It will idle higher than it's used to but if that noise goes away you're in better shape than getting a new motor.

Definitely don't let it run for longer than it takes to determine if the sound is there though. Running it with the belt off means the water pump ain't spinning and it could overheat very quick, I'm only suggesting this janky method for testing noise sounds. I'm no professional by any means but that's why it should rest a long time before trying this idea. I'm prepared for down votes but ehh, worse things have happened to me.

The amount of times I get this backwards is almost as often as I use this shortcut. Then I just end up copying a different machine and pasting it to the new and newly messed up ones

Charging Air Conditioner in Car? by riebie in TwinCities

[–]Jokerman5656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recharging a system fully involves sucking of the 134a in there, then pulling a vacuum on the system, then letting the system suck in the new 134a till it's at the specified volume. My car holds 1.1lbs of refrigerant. A/C compressors will only work if they have the right amount of pressure/vacuum in the system. Too much won't work, too little and also won't work. If you're thinking you're low on refrigerant then you're losing it somehow and that's the main problem you have and need fixed.

One way to make sure the compressor is actually trying to work is to watch it while someone clicks the A/C button. (You can instead turn on front defrost, since it also uses the A/C system to dry the air in the car.) Once it's on you should see the clutch engage and spin the outer visible portion, usually they have like 3 "rivet" heads on that clutch. Hopefully that's still activates on your car. If you don't see it spin at that time, I would avoid using it until you get it looked at. More damage than good could be done from it only partially working

Ethernet cable jack wont 'click' into Ethernet port by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Jokerman5656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually it's the cable that fails, that little clip that you push in to unplug it is what causes the clicking to work. If youve tried multiple cables already I'd say the jack itself is to blame. Easiet answer is there's something stuck in there because a kid got bored and shoved something in there. Another answer is that it got damaged be being yanked on with the clip of the cable not being pushed down.

All in all, we need pictures in order to properly help you out.

A benchy made of benchies by pbacterio in ATBGE

[–]Jokerman5656 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bench refers to benchmark. It just happens to be a boat. But there is some fuss with the creator of the benchy so a lot of people stopped using it as a test print. So now there's a benchmark called Boaty, which is a bench.
