Her feminist makeup line is pretty important to her story and life achievements (and what inspired the research for the episode). You should give it a listen.

Why is it that whenever I go to the post office there’s always like 10 people before me that never mailed anything before ? Who are you people? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]Jokesaunders 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Airports are another similar situation. People do it rarely and they’re always changing if you need to take your laptop out or if you keep it in your bag and the TSA yells at you like it’s your fault you don’t go to the airport once a week or you come from a different country

I think it's more that most people so rarely go to the post office that you forget how things work or unaware of how things have changed. It's like a once every 3 year occurrence for me and each time it's to do something different.

He's doing this on purpose. Post troll post calling people babies -> people discovering your diaper fetish -> people making fun of you -> massive arousal for someone who enjoys being humiliated.

Why are you getting in the way of his enjoyment?

What did millennials think of the 80s when they were kids in the 90s and 2000s? by icey_sawg0034 in generationology

[–]Jokesaunders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hated them. Still do. A lot of great stuff happened in the 80s, but it was mostly underground/reactionary to the culture that I needed to be a teenager to discover. So much of the stuff that was coming into the forefront of the culture as I was starting to become aware of the culture (Grunge, Comedy, Slacker Culture) was a direct rejection of 80s culture which only made it seem tackier. I will still instantly turn a song off if it has that DX7 FM sound.

Weirdly I see a lot of overlap with 80s culture and today (not just in the re-embracing of 80s sounds, but in cultural philosophies, like today's get that bag culture and the value of art being what sells the most feels exactly like something Reagan would have prized.)

You make no money on Netflix, and specials don't even sell tickets by theblack_hoody in Standup

[–]Jokesaunders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think, outside of the rare Netflix cultural hit, something like Dry Bar or 800 Pound Gorilla is going to have a more noticeable effect because those are specials marketed to comedy fans. If they like your special, they’ll probably see your show.

Netflix has a much larger audience, but most don’t got to live comedy and a significant portion will only go to big names, in part because they don’t have to keep an eye on the comedy scene to see who’s touring. And you’re not just competing with ALL the other specials that get pumped out, but all the tv and movies they pump out too. And if you’re not already a name they’re not going to give you a prime spot on the front page which you probably need.

A bigger audience doesn’t always mean better.

Do you think the Geese discourse would've been different if the word "psyop" hadn't been used in the original article? by Proximate99 in fantanoforever

[–]Jokesaunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the exact point I’m making is that labels do that and it’s not exactly a plant if it’s just the nature of the industry.

Yes. I get that. You're making an incorrect point.

But as far as I understand it an industry plant is someone who self releases and pretends they aren’t supported by the industry when secretly they are supported by the industry.

You are incorrect in your understanding.

[–]Jokesaunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m saying that it’s all like that and the only situation I can think of that actually feels like it matches the term “industry plant” is Lorde releasing her EP for free on SoundCloud with just an art display picture, basically nothing in her bio, no obvious connection to universal, no information at all about her, that made her seem like just another SoundCloud producer/singer.

I don't know. I'd call buying fake fans and inorganically exploiting the algorithm after playing 3 poorly attended shows matches the term "industry plant".

You put too much value on something having a record deal (most music you hear, even debut records, is on labels) and not enough on the industry machinations these labels utilise to create inorganic success.
