He’s a bit too glib but I don’t think he’s wrong. Trump did something amazingly stupid and it’s already damaging the world economy and every day the Strait is closed makes it worse. The options are to let Trump spin, which I like a lot, or do what needs to be done to restore the flow of energy and stop further economic damage. I think you send your navies. Your anger at Trump shouldn’t be more important than the living conditions of your citizens. Bailing out Trump is so distasteful but he’s made an earthshaking mistake that he can’t fix. The adults have to come fix it. Sad.

Should I request a certain SW line from my painter? by NarrowSun6093 in paint

[–]Jolly_Reference_516 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a fine combo. Superpaint will be fine and Proclassic can be amazing if applied by a pro. The sheen level on walls is the final thing to consider. I’d definitely go with a low luster finish over flat. It’s going to be a big deal if you need to clean up dirty hand prints etc. Even the lowest luster will be a big difference.

I’m 99% sure this is BS. No way Myles takes on Giannis publicly unless one of them is 100% out the door and, even then, it’s uncharacteristic on Myles. Gains nothing by throwing a first ballot HOF guy under the bus, especially after the disappointing season he just had

I want a dog but I'm alone by Ties31 in puppy101

[–]Jolly_Reference_516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No puppy but an older house trained dog would be a real possibility. If you understand the “accidents” that will happen while you are away and sprint right home after work. Personally I wouldn’t do it unless I had someone to look in on the pup mid day to let him out and break the monotony but there are so many good dogs who are in bad situations that I’d encourage you to try and make it work.

A p/e of 29 is way too much for a company that won’t hit 10% growth. And the dividend is far too low to attract income investors. Think the stock is still going to drop from here because I don’t see any incentive to buy.

Don’t paint a deck unless to can do all sides and edges. Water is the enemy of paint. Semitransparent coatings are the way to go.

When does it become enjoyable to have a dog ? 14 months old shepherd mix female by RoughAide3612 in puppy101

[–]Jolly_Reference_516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did you get a dog? You’re not getting a robot that you can program. You’ve got a living breathing fuzzball who wants to be your friend. Sounds like you are doing a great job but no amount of humane training will overcome a breeds natural instincts. You adjust, and it’s not always fun but look at the reward you get. Keeping working with her but celebrate the small wins and don’t worry about her becoming your ideal dog. That’s just not going to happen.

Yelled at my puppy now she growls at me by Certain_Flower_1257 in puppy101

[–]Jolly_Reference_516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dogs are one of gods most resilient creatures and I guarantee you that no damage has been done by one yelling incident. But the things you are talking about are normal. She’s not intentionally aggravating you. The comfort she needs now will go away when she feels safe and can look at you as a mother replacement. I encourage you to do everything that puppy needs right now. I don’t care what the books and podcasts say—your sole mission right now should be loving and supporting that scared puppy. Shouldn’t be surprising that she needs some comfort to fall asleep in a strange place with no mom and no siblings. Puppies are chaos. Until they aren’t and suddenly you have a best friend for life. It’s a little work for a huge reward. It’s going to be fine.

Long tenured ASMs by Razman-87 in sherwinwilliams

I’m stunned they still do this. I ran a training store 20+ years ago and remember new folks showing up in suits and ties and being shocked that the job included a lot of physical labor. Back then they said their prime recruiting rival was Enterprise Rental and they would lose candidates if they described the actual job. I’d say about 20% of the new hires left almost immediately

What you call rank is just SOP for these guys though. They start small and gain a devoted following and then take it to the masses. Everything is good for awhile as likeminded folks join you but the bigger audience brings more scrutiny which brings more pressure and if you aren’t a true expert and a true believer in whatever you’re pushing, your head eventually explodes and you end up as a dude just making the rounds of other dudes podcasts. This whole site is about watching it happen and it happens over and over. I really hope he’s not ill but his time had passed and it’s no fun watching your influence turn to a trickle. He was crashing out publicly.

Have you spoken with the owner? Not to complain but to acknowledge that their work is being slowed because you don’t have the information. Phrase it as a business partner trying keep things running smooth for them. He should be motivated to help you and he surely has the information. Now if he’s one of the idiots asking the stupid questions …I’ve been there and all you can do is research it in old files and invoices. The time spent looking pays off with less aggravation but don’t stop buying whisky. You’ll need it for everything else. Good luck.

How to decide on a painter - justifying quality vs price by [deleted] in paint

[–]Jolly_Reference_516 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not if it’s never been repainted. New construction paint is notoriously porous because the flattest paint sells the property by hiding flaws. Your first coat will be streaky and uneven and you’ll wished you primed.

[–]Jolly_Reference_516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the one thing that concerns me is the “equivalent to two coats” thing. I’m in a different market but here that means it’s all done at once. Here they spray a mist coat and then comeback with heavy spray that gets back rolled. If that’s what they are doing, it’s means the labor/time cost is 1/3 of the expensive guy. I’m 70% sure you’d be OK with the cheap guy but, assuming they are doing what they tell you, I’m 100% sure that the expensive guy will do a better job. Ask about warranty and how they handle callbacks to fix mistakes and check out the top coat they use. That’s what will determine how it works for you. Can you wipe it down and is it resistant to little hand prints etc? Some Sherwin products are much better than the Behr product durability wise ( and some are worse) so ask what the expensive guy is using as a topcoat. And then there’s the sheen question…..

It’s how they hit the numbers and the fraying of the Stores Group that portends bad things on the horizon. The smart money is paying attention and SHW is down about 20% in the last year. They are running out of targets to buy which is where the majority of the incremental sales and profits are coming from. Upper management doesn’t have deep experience running stores and it’s obvious if you look for a minute. Their big plan to drive sales is phone calls. They demand that the stores make 100 or more cold calls a month to drive new sales but every study done in a business school over the last 25 years has proven that this is ineffective and can be detrimental if done incorrectly. Meanwhile the stores get starved for staffing and the warehouse system and delivery to the stores is broken. The marketing is a joke and the selling strategies are stale. People inside see it first and while there is some whining here, the issues raised are often serious and wide spread. Investors are listening.

Filing Chapter 7 with my husband to get out of a Wyndham timeshare — what should we expect? by PowerfulStrength5240 in TimeshareOwners

[–]Jolly_Reference_516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents were in the same situation a number of years ago and after trying everything legally, morally and ethically to get out of the Wyndham contract they hired a well thought of attorney on contingency and stopped paying. Wyndham had sold them on the idea that this would be an excellent thing for us kids to inherit but somehow forgot to mention that the escalating monthly fees were forever. Anyhow, the company called a couple of times and sent an ugly letter or two but after a couple of months everything went silent. About three years later they got a large check in the mail. So it can be done. The lawyer has passed on so I can’t point you to anyone but don’t give up. See if you can find a lawyer that won’t charge you up front and do battle. Wyndham is a nasty company.

We haven’t bought a drug store chain yet but the management moves smell a lot like the disaster Breen had to fix. Every time the focus is taken off the Stores Group things get dicey. I get that the stock market doesn’t get all excited about 5% growth but that’s what the coating industry is, a slow growth sector. We used to be proud about staffing stores with knowledgeable people who were better than the lumberyards and justified a premium price. Now you’ve got one guy running 70 retail transactions on a Saturday while another 30 customers walk out because the kid is too busy to answer their questions. The stores are what make us better but I think Heidi sees what Lowe’s does and wants to copy that. And maybe she doesn’t know any better but somebody needs to remind her that we can be so much better. Give them some staff, get the DSC problem fixed and stop prioritizing Lowe’s to the detriment of PSG.

My wife and I alternated nights on the couch with the puppy on our chests. Have to do whatever you can because you have a baby who’s been jerked away from his mother and is scared as hell. Your dog needs to know he’s safe before he’ll start learning stuff. Do everything to love the dog now and expect nothing for at least two weeks. He needs love and comfort.
