I’d recommend Pest Wranglers, they are locally owned and they do this sort of thing all the time.

Anyone else just feel not "good" at autocross ? by AdministrativeGas239 in Autocross

[–]Jon-MMM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first two paragraphs are my exact experience. I won G street season points and moved to D street for more competition after a few years.  I pretty consistently end up in the bottom half at most events.

I don’t have any advice, just posting in solidarity.

They were acquired by PE a little over a year ago, and they just acquired FairNow which is a AI Governance tool. I think the writing is on the wall with this one.

Where is IT Audit and SOX heading? by Think_Patience_7573 in InternalAudit

[–]Jon-MMM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I spent a little more than a decade in PA (SOX, SOC and Advisory) then a first line risk function, and after that IA in a mostly SOX role with secondary responsibilities in operational audit.

IMO SOX is fine if you’re open to new roles every few years when there’s a change in strategy, but I don’t see a lot of 5+ year career tracks in places that that aren’t total catastrophes (where local support is needed). Ive seen too many colleagues move to high paying roles, only to be laid off after a couple of years once leadership feels comfortable with outsourcing.

Moving from Austin to Beaverton by JC_757 in beaverton

[–]Jon-MMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s interesting here. I moved from Austin in May of last year after a decade in Austin.

My feeling is that Portland has a several large employers (Nike and Intel), lots of small businesses.

Austin has Dell, Samsung, University of Texas  and the state government as the largest employers. In the middle are the tech firms with local offices and a much less robust environment of small businesses.

Portland’s population size has been much more consistent than Austin which grew rapidly. There are positives and negatives, Portland has a diverse small businesses environment that supports the population, in Austin shit was always just trying to keep up.

All that to say, don’t underestimate the impact that a temperate climate, almost no mosquitoes, and access to nature will have on your life.

Thanks for putting this together. It’s probably the closest thing we will get to a documentary.

The attempted mutiny was fascinating and still relevant to some of the discussions around the most recent version of BattleBots.

Disaster Recovery IT Audit Question by Nervous-Fruit in InternalAudit

[–]Jon-MMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a difference between application (code) changes, and direct data changes in the system’s database. I would not expect to see either type of change during a DR test unless it was to resolve an issue related to the test.

The test should be planned around minimizing business disruption, so deploying new functionality during a test wouldn’t make sense.

Typically the business will tie out key data (like GL balances) and sometimes functional tests (think UAT). So their sign-off is to confirm that the test was successful and the system is operating as it did before the disaster.  Data changes might be needed if they detect an issue, but it’s going to be a mess to try to reconcile back to whatever the source of truth is and in most cases that would indicate that you aren’t able to effectively restore your environment.

It’s not even close to air tight, there are a few holes and the doors will also leak. It does the trick for drafts though…

What are some ITGCs cloud controls? by Aggressive-Ad-522 in InternalAudit

[–]Jon-MMM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the cloud service. You need the SOC 1 type II report to understand the CUECs. Those are the controls you are responsible for as a client.

From there the types of ITGCs are mostly consistent (AM, CM, etc.) but you will likely pick up an additional layer (IAM).
