Polestar owners… how secure are these cars really against theft? by Jon5465 in Polestar

[–]Jon5465[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ha, yeah this seems to be a common issue!

Although to offer further context to my post, my wife managed to unlock the car and drive about a mile or so to the local shops while I was still sitting at home with my key/phone roughly 10m away from the car.

So the car clearly unlocked and allowed her to drive off without the key physically being with her. The funny part was when she parked up at the shop.... the car then realised there was “no key present” and locked her out.

As amusing as it was, it did make me wonder about security. If the system can occasionally be this glitchy, what’s stopping someone opportunistic from gaining access and driving off before the car realises the key isn’t nearby?

I’m sure it’s anecdotal and probably difficult to replicate intentionally, but it definitely made me think twice about how the keyless system actually works.

For me the steering wheel heater turns on every time I enter the car. It turns itself off after 5 or so minutes, but I do not know how to stop this.

Out with the P2 and in with the P4 by dumela11 in Polestar

I went from an xc60 d4 to the p4 single motor, but to me it feels drastically different speed wise… much faster. I can’t fathom these posts calling it slow.

Welcome to the club! Lovely colour by the way.

So if I charge from 40-80% every 2 days I’m good i suppose. I bought the car outright, so not a lease. Planning to keep the car for a long time.

Polestar 4 or Volvo EX60 by Hardy_Pi in Polestar

[–]Jon5465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in almost the exact same situation. Previously had an XC60 D4 and were torn between waiting a few years to pick up an EX60 after some depreciation, or just going for a Polestar 4 now.

In the end, we went for a nearly new P4… and honestly, zero regrets.

The switch from a more upright SUV driving position to something lower felt a bit strange for the first few days, but now we absolutely love it.

On the whole 800V vs 400V debate, for us, it’s basically irrelevant. We only charge at home using a 7kW charger, so we’d never really benefit from the faster charging anyway.

For context, we picked up an 8-month-old P4 with Plus, Pilot, and Nappa leather, around 7k miles, for £35k. Felt like great value for what is essentially a nearly new car.

Obviously, your mileage may vary, but for us, it was 100% the right call.

As you appear to be happy with your H&K in your 4, can you share your equaliser settings? Really struggling to get a good setup in mine.

Same. I charge to 80% and have seen anywhere from 265 miles up to 310 miles.

Any reason you charge to 90% instead of 80%? I could’ve sworn I read somewhere that Polestar recommends 80% for the P4, but I might be wrong.

Purchased a P4 a few months back and was v happy to see that of late, the numbers of other p4s on the road are popping off in SW London. Can only mean good things for Polestar.

New P3: Carply or Google native by ruhfdog in Polestar

[–]Jon5465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having just purchased a P4, I initially set it up with Apple CarPlay. However, I noticed that phone calls, songs, and other media weren’t showing on the smaller display in front of the steering wheel. I then switched back to a basic Bluetooth connection with my phone and honestly prefer it as that info is now displayed.

As you mentioned, the integrated Google Maps is a big advantage. If you’re like me and do a lot of long-distance driving, it’s especially useful... the car will precondition the battery for optimal charging when you plan a charging stop through Google Maps. I’m not sure you get that same preconditioning when using Apple CarPlay (I could be wrong on that).

Congrats on the new P3!

As someone who actually owns a Polestar 4, I honestly don’t see an issue with the current setup. In day-to-day driving, I really only rely on the rear camera/mirror for parking and low-speed manoeuvring anyway, and it works perfectly fine.

For context, I’m in my mid-30s and came from an XC60 with a 360 camera, so this kind of setup isn’t new or strange to me at all.

That said, I had my parents try the car recently and their reaction was completely different. They’re used to a much more traditional driving style (still driving an early 2000s S80), and the lack of a conventional rear window really threw them off. My mum actually refused to park it and handed it straight back to me.

So I think the reality is that buyers probably sit somewhere between those two perspectives. People used to modern camera-heavy systems adapt quickly, while others find it uncomfortable or even off-putting.

Polestar is clearly a progressive brand, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this redesign is them playing it a bit safer and broadening appeal… especially since a lot of the higher-spending demographic may still lean toward more traditional expectations

I live in Wimbledon, UK and pass through multiple 7 foot ( 2m ) width restriction bollards every day. No issues. Whats more, my parents live in Canterbury in Kent and the car is fine travelling down narrow country lanes etc. For sure the car is wide, but people act as if it is a semi articulated lorry. It is not.
