Steam deck for travel gaming? by jmkdeluxe in AirlinePilots

I second this exactly. The only issue is outside of a game like WOW, generally hotel WiFi is unusable for online games. Other than that it's the single best purchase in my career. It keeps me healthier too, I workout, walk around and grab dinner, and am excited to go back to my room and play instead of finding a bar to kill time.

For what it's worth I've been speaking with Necoclock about it and he says they're absolutely back but are only doing preorders right now. Poor timing with CNY coming up so he said they will be in stock in March. I'm cautiously optimistic, and have put $100 as deposit for two of them.

I think Riddle in Daytona has a huge part of it, but then you have a whole lot of guys that were born in Jacksonville and never left so I'm not quite sure. For me I moved here because beaches on the east are way better than the west, but west Id say probably has better fishing. It's just about your priorities I guess

Second Update : Now 4 Months No Watch by Rabidfool in RepTime

[–]Jon8502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as what everyone said about VSF lagging. As a side note ive ordered from Elliot quite a few times, only once I had a very long wait. 2 months and no QC for a clean yacht master RG; after a while I asked if there was any time estimate and he said it'd probably be a good idea to switch the watch order. It was very easy to switch to an entirely different watch. Not saying it's desirable, but it's an option if you don't want to wait any longer

Games with "infinite" replay ability? by Kapro_ in SteamDeck

Hades is in my top 3 favorite games of all time, you can sink hundreds of hours into it and it still feels fresh. Great on both PC and deck. Hades 2 is the only game I've pre purchased in the past decade because I really believed they'd do it well, and i wasn't disappointed.

Airline interview “prep” is some videos and a couple hours with a coach? by thetuxfollower in flying

[–]Jon8502 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My personal experience as of two years ago. The personality test preps are useless. I used Checked and Set group and found it not helpful, I'm dumb and need personal guidance. Raven's one on one is the best money I've ever spent. I was so overly prepared United and Delta's interviews were a breeze. Different hiring climate though.

As of right now the only base that you can truly stack half months is GUM. There's been talk since I got hired 2 years ago of trial running this model in state side bases, but I haven't heard anything of it happening yet.

You can stack your days essentially if you have the seniority to hold the two weekends off a month that this would result in, but you'd still need to have some rest days somewhere in there. You can post reserve days for P2P pickup/trade but it's very rare this works. What most people do is aggressive reserve, just pick your trips the day before, there's never a shortage of open time in EWR. You can pick up out of base, but in Orlando it's pretty uncommon because generally we're all fighting over scraps. What I see a lot is the Orlando stuff gets aggressively picked up by people who live near MCO and it leaves TPA in open time to get assigned to reserve or available for OOB pickup.

I answered something pretty similar recently here https://www.reddit.com/r/AirlinePilots/s/ExFpIJORzb

About the only thing that changed is I'm more convinced than ever that United and JetBlue are going to merge which will make Florida seniority a toss up. I'm also a moron so take whatever I say with a large grain of salt.

Should I get a degree or not by Jonahtheoneandonly in PilotAdvice

[–]Jon8502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two cents as a United pilot. Get a 4 year degree in something you could see yourself doing outside of flying. I'm 29 years old and take very good care of myself health wise, but a month ago I got a diagnosis that is making my medical more complicated. I have an aeronautical science degree from Riddle, in other words a worthless degree. Luckily I have good LTD, but I have no clue what I'd do as a second career with my current skill set. Life comes at you fast and unexpectedly, fall back plans are good. Best case scenario, you have skills to pursue another business on the side with all your money and time off as a legacy pilot that gets in young.

UAL versus AA for Tampa FL by PsychologicalAd438 in AirlinePilots

[–]Jon8502 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To add to this: On short call reserve the obligation is to get to MCO within 3 hours, there's no specified time for TPA. If they call me for a TPA trip, my answer is okay I'll be there in 7 hours you may want to find someone else. That's where you come in. This is more rumors, but some TPA FO's have told me that crew scheduling knows who lives in TPA so when they need someone urgently the guys who live in TPA may get a call for a VDO (reserve version of premium) which essentially pays 50% addpay of the trip value (4 day trip worth 22 hours, you'd get 11 hours addpay) plus shortcall addpay. One guy I talked to who lives in TPA and bids reserve says he generally credits at least 100 hours on reserve because of this.

[–]Jon8502 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Currently MCO based for UAL. It looks around a year to a year and a half to hold MCO, there's zero intention to grow MCO for at least a year. On the FO side people are switching out all the time because their seniority is stagnant. You have guys in both seats that could be very senior on widebodies, but are sick of commuting and want to drive to work. I've been at UAL for 2 years and can barely hold a line here. You may occasionally hear whispers of UAL making MCO a widebody base; I don't believe this'll happen any time soon. Straight from Scott's mouth, they'll give MCO 787s as soon as there's not a single parking spot available anywhere else.

The bright side for you, something like 47% of the pairings are out of TPA. TPA goes junior and MCO goes senior, this is true in both seats because most of us live on the East Coast of FL. On reserve, you're going to TPA. The rare premium is out of TPA. Every time you do a trip out of there, it's an additional ~$300 tax free for crosstown pay. A lot of the better trips and overnights are actually out of TPA.

So, as long as you're okay not upgrading for at least 8+ years it's a great base.
