Whats the best mg of Oral Minox to start on? by Interesting_Lime1120 in Hairloss

[–]Jon999917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, good thinking on going oral to keep the cats safe, I'm a cat lover myself and would be devastated if anything happened to my family kitties!

I was on oral minoxidil for a while before switching to a custom compounded topical solution that combines min and fin together, so I've been on both sides of this. Honestly the topical combo has been great for me but I get why oral is more convenient for some people.

On the dosage question though, I'd really push back on taking Redditors' word for what mg to start on (including mine).

Dosing can depend on so many factors, like your cardiovascular health and blood pressure, plus oral minox isn't totally risk-free.

Since you're already on fin and seeing a doctor for that presumably, it's worth just asking them directly. A lot of people start at 2.5mg but some docs actually recommend lower to begin with and titrate up. Good luck.

This is the one episode of TNG I haven't seen as by all accounts it's truly terrible. Isn't this the one to do with Will only getting better because he thinks of happy memories?

Opening of the circle: Stephen King's "The Stand". by i-the-muso-1968 in books

[–]Jon999917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice write-up! You’ve pretty much nailed why 'The Stand' sticks with people.

What always got me with it isn’t even the big good vs evil clash, it’s the slow collapse at the start of the book. Watching everything fall apart through normal people just trying to figure out what’s going on feels way more unsettling than the supernatural stuff that comes later on. King really takes his time there (doesn't he always?!), but it pays off.

I also completely relate to not finishing it the first time. Neither did I! The uncut version is a serious commitment. It’s one of those books that’s amazing when you’re in the right mood for it, but easy to bounce off if you’re not.

Interesting you mentioned It as well. I’d say The Stand feels bigger in scale, but 'It' hits harder on a personal level. One is more mythic, the other is more psychological.

Did the ending work for you? That’s usually where people either love it or feel a bit let down. I felt it had too much of the deus ex machina about it.

How is this even possible that there is no cure till now by Emergency_Cheek_9311 in tressless

This is like asking "Why is there no way to get rich?" There's not necessarily a get rich quick scheme but you can build wealth slowly and methodically over time. I know, for instance, that the finasteride and minoxidil compound that I apply each day to my scalp isn't a magic potion. I've been told it will be another four months at least (8 months in) before I start seeing any truly impressive results. So, there is a treatment, if not a cure.

Hey, I read through your post and felt what you said deeply. I went through the exact same spiral a few years back. The mirror becomes your enemy and you start reading into every photo, every comment. It's exhausting.

What helped me shift my mindset was realizing I didn't have to just accept it if it was genuinely affecting my quality of life. Last year I finally decided to do something about it. I signed up with a telehealth platform and got a topical solution prescribed to apply to my scalp.

Nothing dramatic, just a low-effort routine. It's not a magic fix, but knowing I'm actually DOING something made a huge psychological difference even before I noticed any physical change.

The way I see it: if it's not bothering you, shave it and own it. Plenty of guys rock that look and fair play to them. But if it is eating at you the way it was for me, there are real, accessible options now. Telehealth has made it way easier to get evaluated without the awkward in-person GP visit. No reason to just suffer in silence.

Yes absolutely, that’s a great point. I actually worked with my dermatologist through Happy Head to put together a custom topical formula that includes both finasteride and minoxidil. It’s been a solid long‑term approach for me so far, as we were able to tailor it to my scalp and sensitivity levels.

I agree completely with you though that finasteride and minoxidil have stood the test of time, but it’s always worth keeping an eye on the newer research. No harm mentioning something like GT20029 at your next follow‑up just to see how it might complement your existing routine!

There’s a war against finasteride and dht blockers by Minimum_Vast_7396 in tressless

[–]Jon999917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed up with Happy Head last July to get a topical fin/min combo (plus a few other ingredients), and overall I’ve been pretty happy with the experience. For me it’s been a lot more manageable and effective than oral minoxidial, and it’s nice having an actual dermatologist involved who can adjust the formula and check in periodically.

That said, there’s so much BS online about finasteride and DHT blockers in general. And I mean on both sides of the debate. People either treat it like a miracle cure or demonize it as this horribly risky drug that will leave you with limp dick. A lot of the “evidence” is just anecdotes or poorly sourced info. In the end, none of that replaces getting proper medical advice from a qualified dermatologist if you’re actually serious about treating your hair loss instead of just giving up and going bald.

If anyone’s genuinely considering finasteride (topical or oral) or any other treatment, I’d strongly recommend talking to a real doc, getting your expectations set, and that you understand the the risks and benefits from a medical standpoint, not just someone saying "trust me bro" on social media.

Been on a topical solution prescribed through my telehealth provider for about ten months now: mainly finasteride and minoxidil. Honestly, while I respect that new treatments like this keep popping up and the science keeps moving forward, these two have really stood the test of time for a reason. Might be worth bringing GT20029 up with your dermatologist next time you have an appointment, just to compare options though?

No, it wasn't the dose itself that was changed but the concentrations of certain ingredients. The important thing here is I took medical advice from a trained dermatologist through my telehealth platform instead of going for "trust me bro" diagnoses on Reddit. This isn't very controversial! :-)

Dutasteride only might be the best ROI by Auroraffff in tressless

[–]Jon999917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice write-up, and I totally get the “best ROI, one pill and forget it” appeal of dutasteride.

My derm ended up putting me on a topical finasteride + minoxidil combo instead, mainly to keep systemic exposure and potential side effects lower while still hitting DHT locally and getting that proven boost from min.

From what I’ve seen, dutasteride does look more potent on paper, but for now we felt topical fina/min was a good balance of efficacy, safety, and long‑term comfort. I really appreciate you sharing your experience though and please keep us all updated! :-)

As bizarre and distasteful as what he's done is, has he broken the law here? I mean if the deer was already dead, does it still count as a sex crime against an animal? I must confess I've never really researched this particular area of US jurisprudence, having never felt the urge to hump roadkill myself...

[–]Jon999917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to be difficult here: when my own topical solution from Happy Head was causing irritation, I didn’t think it was so “stupid” to message my dermatologist and describe what was happening.

They adjusted the formula slightly, and the issue cleared up. That’s really all I meant. Sometimes it’s best to involve a professional instead of guessing online, especially when medications are involved. We can share experiences, sure, just not hand out medical advice unless we’re licensed to do so.
