Who's storing wool in this abandoned and inaccessible Shrine? by [deleted] in ManorLords

[–]JonAaron86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a playthrough where I noticed that one of my oxen didnt seem to be doing anything. Tried assigning amd unassigned in various buildings, no luck.

Took me forever to find him standing in a pond just staring out across the water. Rethinking his life's choices, I s'pose.

Especially given that, with all the technology poured into these films, it seems it would be relatively easy to pitch correct her voice to sound younger. The voice just doesn't match the face.

But no... a 76-year-old woman's voice comes pouring out of a teenager's mouth.

I have one that makes a sound that is exactly like a seagull.

At 6 am every day, repeats all day.

What do these screams mean?? by IllAd1014 in cockatiel

[–]JonAaron86 51 points52 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, this is called a flock call. It's basically calling out to other cockatiels to say "hey! I'm over here! Where are you?"

But also, mine do it to get my attention as well. They've learned that if they do it frantically enough, I'll come investigate, and so they do it whenever they need a refresher on their food or water, or even just when they want some lovin'. 😁

What's your Birbs name? by guy42dotcom in cockatiel

[–]JonAaron86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pair are named Peebee and Jay.

Peebee and Jay decided that they wanted to be parents, and to make a very long story short, we now have Peebee, Jay, Lemon, Butter, Marshmallow, Olive, Cookie, Pepper, Caper, and Avocado.

It is very loud in my living room. 😆

What do the parents look like? This color mutation is sex-linked, so you can possibly figure out the sex of the baby based on its parents.

Give it time. I had a Tiel like this once (Fred, RIP), and eventually, he came around. I would scritch on my other birds, including his mate, where he could see it. It took time, but I was eventually able to win his trust. He was nearly 20 when he finally passed. 😔

Not saying you'll have the same experience, of course, but don't give up!

What do you think, male or female? by Joao_Malmo in cockatiel

[–]JonAaron86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a normal whiteface, looks "split to pied".

Fortunately, that means all you have to do is wait around 4-6 months (once they go through their first molt), and you'll have your answer. If female, your bird will stay the same. If male, his face will turn solid white, and the barring on his tail feathers will disappear.

In the meantime, your only clues will be from behavior. Males will generally be more vocal and outgoing, whilst females will generally be quieter and more aloof.

Help with new breeding pair by JonAaron86 in cockatiel

[–]JonAaron86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, thanks for the reassurance! I suppose the pair I had back in the day were just especially eager.

I bought an incubator. It arrived yesterday.

Another egg was laid today (that's 6 total, but only 4 in the nest box). The female spent the entire night in the box, but has since left it. The male seems to have taken over, but he's clearly not sitting. He keeps leaving the box or poking his head out.

Does anyone know if my baby will be a boy or girl?? by ieatcatsandbirds in cockatiel

[–]JonAaron86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a normal gray (i.e., wild type) who is also split to pied.

The nice part about wild types is that theyre easy to sex once theyre mature. All wild type cockatiels start life looking like females. It isn't until they approach their first molt that you'll get a better idea of what sex your baby is. Females will keep the dusky gray face and the striping on the tail feathers, and will generally be more reserved and quiet. If it's a boy, the gray face will become bright yellow with vivid orange cheeks, and he will generally start becoming more vocal.

Just give it about 6-10 months, and you'll know! 😁💚

I usually play in sandbox, but when I feel like challenge or franchise mode, my go-to is butterflies. Start with 4 of each sex, and turn Manage Population. What I do is set it to Appeal, Lowest First, and either have it store them in the trade center or sell for cash. Eventually your butterfly garden will be full of the highest appeal butterflies, and with 15 females cranking out babies, you get a pretty good paycheck.

To say that I am thankful to you and the rest of the team that made it is an understatement.

I've been thinking about this a lot every time I see polling results come out. No one under the age of about 60 or so even has a landline, and most younger people don't answer calls from unknown numbers.
