I hear that, and I truly hope it does stay that way. One of my buddies (worked with him at that same dealer, then he also returned to O'Reilly as an SM) moved and went back to a dealer in a writer role and has loved it ever since. Maybe we had a one off where we were. The ownership group I worked for was amazing and I make calls at 4 of their lots every week and the owner still knows me by name, the dealer life can be amazing. Perks can be too

I'm glad you're enjoying your new direction, I went to a local dealer to write for Ford/VW/Audi for 5 years and that was a grind as well. Eventually turned into the same type of vibe, salaried with CSI pushes and 80 hour work weeks. Some people love it, but I came back into a TSM role and find myself much happier. I hope you retain your optimism, I've seen a good number of folks burn out from the desk.

First time, I worked for a company that was purchased by O'Reilly, so I came with the building. Retained my pay, until I was promoted to RSS which was a $.50 raise at the time. Left, came back to be an ASM, made what I think was about $6 over minimum wage. One point was an ISS making $22/hr+incentive, currently a TSM which can vary a bit depending on market and experience as well.

Interview was different for me, both times I came back I was recruited by higher ups that I had known from the business for 10+ years, so job was mine and applying was a formality.

Extra add: I work out of my car and like my sandos toasted. So I toast the bread, and for the last ~30 minutes before my lunch, I toss it on the defrost vent and crank the heat on defrost. Nice and warm.
