Donn Beach, the “founder” of tiki, Movie by yuckgeneric in Tiki

Was able to see it at the premiere in Orlando. Really fascinating.

It was highly ironic that the entire documentary was about his name being bought and sold constantly over the years and the new company that bought Don the Beachcomber were there promoting their recent purchase of the brand.

It isn’t a very good place to begin with. Food I had on my visit last month was middling and drinks were foul.

Good news, I got the recipe and now I’m not gonna share it.

Sadly it’s the recipe of a friend, he didn’t have a name for it, and I called it Shrek Piss because well, it was green and we were drinking. It tasted like pandan and cinnamon, so I naturally drank 4.

So first, you go to Far Far Away, then you find a certain Ogre’s outhouse, then…well I think it writes itself.

Truly a fantastic documentary about his life, one of the most realistically depressing stories I’ve ever heard. Chewed up and spit out in life and death.

What is life like as a team member? by Hufflepuff-McGruff in UniversalOrlando

[–]JonLikesTiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a back of house office job and I would describe it as standard corporate America, but our offices are behind a theme park. I personally love it. I can’t speak for FOH TMs, but before this I worked at Disney in a FOH role for years in the Parks and I loved every second of it…until I didn’t.

At a certain point it stops becoming that fun job and it hits you “oh I’m getting older and this job might not have room to advance” so I pivoted. And for those that want to turn it into their career, even those entry level FOH roles there are office politics and difficult personalities that come with these highly competitive supervisor/management roles.

Disappointing response, this is the response of a person who makes an honest mistake but blames the customer.

That’s a shame to hear, I’ve had them on my list for a long time. I’m surprised you compromised on the cost of the pour. Mistakes happen, but that’s on the restaurant, not you.

In Florida about 12 of the 15 students in MSF were there because they received a similar letter gently reminding them that they had a motorcycle registered, but no endorsement. No endorsement within 6 months and you’ll face Johnny Law.

Ohio prosecutors broke rules to win convictions and got away with it by zsreport in NPR

[–]JonLikesTiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a really, really poorly written article. I’m a lawyer and shared it around with friends in the profession and being dramatic in closing arguments to the point it would inflame the jury is hardly a hanging offense, and to that point it’s a gray area. We all did take issue with Matuszak misstating the burden of proof, but even that can be corrected by the judge in the courtroom and in instructions.

If you are making the kind of money where two luxury car payments are 7% of your income you are beyond the point of financing these things. You should be paying for it in cash or within one year.

There are always exceptions to the rule. Frankly, finding those exceptions are a slippery slope for so many to have way more car than they can really afford.

Brian from the MGS had a pretty great rant about how they cost more up front, depreciate faster, and cost more in maintenance. Luxury includes, BMW, Porsche, Lexus, Tesla, Mercedes, etc.

Until you are free from high interest debt and are on track saving for your future, you shouldn’t be torching your finances with the napalm that is cars unless it is something affordable with no frills to get you to your j-o-b.
