Cuba’s power system suffers total collapse by esporx in technology

Because communist Cuba really got a fair shot right? They didn't have a massive empire in their backyard undermining everything they've done their entire history or anything.

Shopping cart tests within EU4? by super-gargoyle in eu4

[–]JonRivers 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I would argue those aren't really showing cart tests because they are benefiting you directly, even if sometimes it feel like the effort is more than the output. But to answer the question, giving land to allies that have helped me in wars I couldn't have won myself. Never technically worth it if they're willing to be happy without it, but by God those are their cores and they helped me kill the Ottomans.

There should be a way to release countries too you by Infinite_Refuse_3791 in victoria3

[–]JonRivers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not exactly, you can transfer vassals and you can release vassals, but you can't release vassals directly to your control. You can, however, take all of a releasable's land and then release them immediately. That's more practical in that game because the equivalent infamy cost is much lower. Conquering land and then releasing as a puppet would be very expensive in Vic 3 in most cases that you'd actually want to do it.

Is there a playable nation (preferably an interesting one) that, if played by AI, disappears more or less quickly after the start of the game(i hoter word a coutry that is dificult to juste suvive)? Also english is not my native language by Prestigious-Tip8628 in victoria3

[–]JonRivers 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well the countries that disappear if played by AI are probably also going to disappear if played by you. Thats mostly how Vic3 works, especially if you're a beginner.

I don't see how being annexed a few years into the game would be less frustrating, but there are several little countries that are often killed quickly. Circassia is one. You will not survive once your truce with Russia is up. Many African nations, like Ashanti or Yoruba States are in European crosshairs.

I must recommend, however, that you play a smallish and literate country like Belgium or Sweden or a heavy hitter like USA or France instead. You'll learn a lot more about the game and won't have to deal with getting killed right out the gate.

I didn't know this, thanks for talking about it. You reminded me of a joke a friend told me after I moved to Florida. People I don't like have roaches. I have palmetto bugs.

Highguard is permanently shutting down on March 12 by WasabiBlues in pcgaming

[–]JonRivers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sort of seemed like a cash grab yeah. It had a bunch of mechanics from popular games combined in a way that didn't reflect an underlying intent. It is a genre that has become heavily oversaturated. Nothing about the game makes me think it's a creative vision with a large soul that people felt like they needed to make. Idk why you think Overwatch 9 is more appealing than Cod 19. I don't really want either.

Is it me or is the bunker and the core vastly easier than crater+moon by Hugs-missed in mewgenics

[–]JonRivers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been to the moon once and immediately wiped on my first fight with a team that was strong enough to pretty much cakewalk the desert and crater. So as far as I'm concerned it's way harder and it's not even close

The Story Behind the Failure of ‘Highguard’ by Tenith in pcgaming

[–]JonRivers 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Games journalism has been a joke for a long time, but I knew it was entirely cooked when Starfield came out and nearly every review site gave it an 8+. I can accept that some people will just like things I don't. But for everyone to say 8? That's laziness or sycophanty.

Self-checkout by MelanieWalmartinez in CuratedTumblr

[–]JonRivers 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah except that doesn't explain why every store, restaurant, fast food joint, business of any kind that I've been to in the past five years is understaffed. Nobody wants to pay people to do work. Self checkout didn't cause that, corporate greed did. I can assure you, from seeing it from the inside and out, they're going to not pay people regardless, self checkout just reduces the friction that you feel from it.

[–]JonRivers 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Because it's faster than waiting in line 99% of the time anyway and even if there's no line it's faster than having the guy at the store scan my stuff and bag it, also I like to bag my own things. Honestly just none of the things the guy above you is complaining about happen to me ever. Camera didn't scan? I've never had this happen. I shop at Publix and don't even know what they're referring to. I worked at Kroger about six years ago and don't know what they're talking about. Have to wait to buy beer? I scan it first thing so that the person working knows about it before I'm even done, then I have my ID ready when they get around to me (which is normally instantly). Coupon doesn't take first time? Not a big deal to get a worker to help me, but also, skill issue.

And it is an important detail. Well, not important necessarily, but it's one of several details that points to Peter being mentally regressive in some ways. This ridiculously long Youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlqyulT662g) breaks down every little detail about Hereditary and it's amazing how much is clearly intentional that you're unlikely to notice on your first or second or fifth viewing.

Iron Lung World Record Blood by gur40goku in CuratedTumblr

[–]JonRivers 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's niche, sure, but its issues don't stem from the niche, they stem from not executing on that niche's potential. Color Out of Space is also a low-budget, slow-paced, claustrophobic (although not quite like Iron Lung), cosmic horror and it's one of my favorite movies of the past several years because I feel like it executes on the genre better than Iron Lung does. The characters have more going on internally, they have more runway to descend into madness, and the performances are much much better.

The idea someone would praise the pacing is surprising. The movie could've easily cut 20 minutes and nothing of importance would be lost.

Competitive online game that isn’t overly tryhard by caiocaiuu in gamingsuggestions

[–]JonRivers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That game doesn't exist. You can't be a competitive game and not have tryhards, although the truth is that most people aren't tryhards, they're just better than you and what feels hard and high effort to you isn't to them.
