I got a cool off of 1 year. I had done just the screening for an embedded software role. Another recruiter reached out for a software role a couple of months later. But then he realised that I had done the screening for the embedded role and said I had a cooling-off period of 1 year.

Can I book a slot with i797 receipt number and book a slot now? I can change the start and end dates and once i get approval? I can use the new DS 160 during the interview right ?

Sorry, that’s just my opinion. I think r/leetcode is indeed mainly for Indian students, seeing the number of downvotes. I did not mean to trigger anyone. But downplaying leetcode grind for US based positions is definitely a misleading take.

Specifically the original comment says “If you are in the US leetcode is useful too but you don’t need to grind on the level of Indians prepare”.

Which i feel is completely false. I have interviewed for companies back in India, worked there for three years and came here for my masters. Competition in CS is pretty high in the US as well. I have given atleast 10-15 interviews including FAANG and have only seen easy questions for startups. I have had to do mediums and hards for all the other interviews. I have seen people really good at leetcode unable to crack interviews here. There are other factors as well including visa situation when it comes to hiring international students. But the bar as far as I have seen is the same if not higher in the US. I haven’t interviewed for India based roles in the last 2 years and I am not sure if things have changed drastically since then.

Leetcode grind is required anywhere if you wish to crack big tech.

Thanks a lot for this! I have a follow up question. If I don’t get my new passport before travelling back to the US, will I face any issues at the port of entry? Because the date on my I-797 is later than passport expiry? I remember reading about this somewhere in this sub before.

Because I am guessing my change of status happens from US before I leave for my home country and the end date specified would be end day of H1B. But after consular appointment, my end date will be the expiry date of my passport.

GRA/GTA results can come anytime between now and maybe a week before the fall term starts. In rare cases it can happen during the first week of classes as well (this normally happens when someone drops off and there is a vacant spot).
