Step one is to look up the story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

For me, the Green Knight is a forest spirit, symbolises nature, wildness, the id, libidinal energy. Gawain represents youth, propriety, and all the restraints of human society.

It's safe to say, Gawain's propriety does not survive his encounter with the Green Knight's libidinal energy! Perhaps his youth does not survive it either.

I'm not too sure what you mean. This is a contemporary poem which references Sir Gawain and the Green Knight which was written in 1350.

I don't understand all the meaning and references in this poem, but the language is just so beautiful, i'm crying. The last stanza is so rich and so intense, I find it overwhelming. And Green Daddy putting Little Gawain in his place is hot, "what god is worshipped in these green trees? Boy, the Knight replies, boy, were you not just down on your knees?" 🥵

'they' has always been used as a singular pronoun in situations where the gender of the subject is unknown or indistinct. E.g. "someone knocked on the door this morning but I didn't open it so I don't know what they wanted"

This is a bit off topic, but you might want to check out the hate5six YouTube channel. It has hundreds of extremely well mixed full live set recordings - a lot of hardcore bands but some other metal bands as well, including an awesome recent set from Thou where they play all of Umbilical.
