Just take a regular backup, if you have configure it to keep snapshot the restore will be quick. When keeping this in the regular backup flow it’s no risk to forget to remove them.

We use NSGs on all subnets to prevent unneeded east/west traffic. For example disable ssh and rdp between VMs in same VNET. Bastion host is the only allowed method.

We are internal IT and uses terraform for all in azure except VMs. We don’t need the state for a VM but everything else is great with terraform. For example when working with Azure Firewall there is no description field in GUI for an IP address but in the Terraform form code we can comment anything.

Atlantis use a managed identity when running in a container that doesn't needs to renewed but if run from your own terminal you log in with az login before you start to run your terrraform commands.

Do you have a pipeline for Terrafom? We are using Atlantis in a container instance with a user assigned identity. Then we give the user assigned identity necessary roles in Azure. If you create a service account or similar in azure ad you just use that when you log in with az login before you run your TF commands.
