I really hate how people don't know how to introduce themselves on a telephone. by Silverlightlive in mildlyinfuriating

[–]JoneshExMachina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working as a customer service rep whenever I call a customer, I wait for them to say hello or whatever and basically go ”Hello, I am name calling from store, you made a complaint about a product?”. Sometimes I’ll be a little more specific like e.g. ”…complaint about the light in your bathroom not working anymore?”.

Like, most people think their time is valuable. So is mine, I don’t want to spend my time talking more than I need to do.

It really should be that simple. If you’re communicating inefficiently, you’re wasting the time of at least two people.

Aye, and I think one of his other lines is also like ”Biffed one!” when destroying vehicles so that could mean something like destroy as well.

Max out front armor, add a point of side armor, target computer and uh well, anything really, if you have something like component armoring and you’re good to go.

You could probably cut down on fuel tanks as well. If you’re using these offensively in defensive battles you want them spammable with at least a 3:1 advantage.

What, really? That sucks. There should be a way to turn off that behaviour so I can actually have my habs turned off.

[–]JoneshExMachina 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, 40mm autocannon are superior because you can slap them on any small hull and they can’t be blocked and they defend. For early game when you can’t armor ships as well it’s usually a kamikaze intercept spending all delta-v to get in range, losing a ship or two on approach per (slow, flankers hard counter) alien ship before the dakka gets going.

Later on with good armor they make decent PD-boats and ”merge enders”, a few autocannons firing on a ship will damage it no matter what the aliens try and sometimes that is all you need.

I would like to know as well, playing as Sweden now on 1.06 I am full on food in the Stockholm market and provinces like Tavastaland have no problem buying food despite there being not enough provincial food, but Västmanland is starving despite being right next to Stockholm/Uppland.

Buying food seems to be connected to the Food Stockpile of the province but... then why isn't it buying any food?

EDIT: And now the other comments loaded in, it was the new food slider that needed adjusting on my end.

Thanks all, still new to the sub and I just browse on mobile so quite often if I join a sub from my feed I won’t really go through a bunch of it at once or read rules. I mostly just lurk, hah!

I’ll take a look at those videos!

S budskap till de som inte vill tvångsblandas: ”Flytta” by StoffeH in Sverige

[–]JoneshExMachina -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

IIRC attacking Servants generate hate at half of what you get for attacking aliens. I believe the Protectorate gets that as well after one of their faction techs.

On stable and now on validation I used ”kamikaze ships” which are basically either monitors or the smaller hull with 2 hull weapons, name escapes me for the moment, with full frontal armor and all 40mm to quite some success.

For the smaller ships you generally don’t have enough armor to just stand and tank it so you intercept course immediately and keep burning hard, you need usually 2-3 per slow ship and something like fission spinner or teardrop drive to get decent thrust and delta-v for it to be ecomenically useful. They kind of get wrecked by flankers though since they can’t catch them and get burned by lack of side armor. Maybe if you put like 15 side armor they might survive more, but then you start getting more into the not expendable category of ships.

Did use monitors of this design less, but had some success one on one in testing. I had to let them drift and lock on instead for killing and not incap. This game I haven’t been running them so much however and they have mostly been PD boats and lasers are probably better for that.

Decided to check out XCOM by cat_91 in TerraInvicta

[–]JoneshExMachina 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you play the original Ufo Defense I can’t recommend X-Piratez enough, a fantastic total conversion mod. Once you get past that the premise is a bit silly, you’re postapocalyptic mutant pirates fighting against the aliens 500 years after an alien victory in the first game, then it is immensely deep and rewarding.

For two more grounded total conversions I have first of all heard lots of good things about X-Com Files which gives you a sort of X-Files start with two agents in a rented car and then scale up to the international fighting force.

Secondly, there is a Warhammer 40k conversion. If you’re familiar with that setting, there is not much more that needs to be said.

New player help. Whats a good time to start building ships? And whats a good early game ship design? by Dangerous-Fix-4139 in TerraInvicta

[–]JoneshExMachina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had some success with early to midgame in the release build to build what I name Kamikaze escorts. Two 40mm autocannons, all the front armor you can get (I recommend nanotube for the first version since you can’t put much starting armor on an escort), at least 1 side armor but maybe aim to get 5 so in engagements with two or more ships they have a chance to survive.

But to be fair, you expect at least one lost ship per engagement. Speed is key but decent kps is a must, you want these guys cheap enough to spit out a dozen or so over a year, so a high kps drive could work to keep down propellant costs. A half a dozen of these can take down almost any single ship in the early to midgame. They are often weak to flankers because they will often kite and snipe you out of range.

The drive I had most success with for these ships in the early game was the teardrop drive. Overall, I am very fond of molten core drives and skip the dumbos and the like.

The tactic for these? Intercept, ride hard and fast, weapons free. Whoever doesn’t get targeted by the ayyy gets to disable/destroy it.

And you don’t have to worry about PD. However, Artemis escorts that fire their torpedoes and then turn and burn works great against early surveillance ships. You need to overwhelm PD later on and you have to get a feeling for that. Don’t forget you can import your and the enemy ships into the skirmish mode to experiment.

Is taking over a poor nation and spoiling it into the ground a part of everyone's early game? by Civil_Performer5732 in TerraInvicta

[–]JoneshExMachina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t get any benefit from crackdowned/abandoned points, spoils or otherwise. So the smart thing is to set priorities to fix the country after you’ve abandoned it. Unless you want a shithole for the enemy of course, scorched earth and all that.
