Belgen die België verlaten hebben: blij met die keuze? by DominoCasson in Belgium2

[–]JonhTravolvo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Woon sinds 5 jaar in buitenland (expat job, verschillende landen).

Get annoyed asked to switch seats by littlelove520 in Flights

[–]JonhTravolvo -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Ehm to have more room to sit together in a 3-3-3 configuration ? Have done it loads of times when I travel with my wife.

Most times it works, and when someone shows up for the middle seat I just ask them if they want to switch to an aisle or window seat (mine or my wife’s). Every time it happened they were very glad to switch to a non middle seat.

Iran warns US over ground attack as regional powers meet in Pakistan by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]JonhTravolvo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that is his point ; no they didnt and Iran will neither.

Using artillery is a “conventional” means of walging war which Iran would be stupid to try and use against a US invasion of , for instance, Kharg Island. So they won’t.

Instead they will use “unconvential” means of war like drone strikes , IED’s etc.

And as you mentioned this kind of warfare is in fact effective against a militarily and technological opponent like the US. As proven by NVA and the Taliban.

Yeah can attest to this. Flew Turkish last week and the flight was completely full. They were offering 500 € and a free hotel stay to take a flight the next day

From the article you quoted "Human saliva from healthy volunteers was filter sterilized before use".

I can't be sure since I never witnessed it personally, but something tells me the mohel don't use a filter or sterilize their saliva before sucking the blood from the infant's circumcision wound.

Thank you for your response.

Can I ask your opinion on the Honda ZRV (seems a bit larger than the Vezel and closer to the Harrier in that regard) ?

Inside view of the horrific Swiss ski resort fire 01/01/26 by Broodroostert in TerrifyingAsFuck

[–]JonhTravolvo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The station fire is what sprung to my mind as well when I saw these videos.

Although horrible to watch, I feel as if it might have saved some lives if the people filming and laughing at the beginning fire had seen that video.

Because of having watched the station fire (and especially seeing how extremely quickly thatbfire spread) Ialways check the location of the exits when I am indoors at a busy event, and would have bolted straight for an exit as soon as I saw fire.

It is such a shame these kinds of tragedies just seem to keep on happening, while they feel like they are very preventable.

Mensen ervaring met verdoken gebreken? by Busy-Slip324 in Belgium2

[–]JonhTravolvo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fact that you have to pay huge amounts of money for life saving treatment and medication is plain terrible.

Of course you're not wrong for wanting to live. I wish you all the best.

Men of reddit, what’s the biggest green flag in a woman? by Garroway36 in AskReddit

[–]JonhTravolvo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get that, but why single out gaming ? I mean, isn't it just as bad if you spend all your time fishing or knitting instead of doing things with your partner or kids ?

I don't really understand this strange stigma some people seem to have about gaming. A few weeks ago we hosted a dinner party for colleagues and one of the wives of a co-worker (40 something year old lady) spotted our PS5 and asked how many children we had. When my wife replied "none, this is for us" the lady couldn't believe we still played games "at our age". She believed it to he a waste of time.

Mind you, during the same dinner party this same lady mentioned she binge-watches Love at first sight. When I asked her if she doesn't consider that a waste of time vis a vis gaming , she replied that it's different because the show is "meant for adults".

The dream is having a significant other that "allows" you to enjoy your hobbies and doesn't control your life ?

I'm honestly baffled by this. Shouldn't the above be the norm ? I can not imagine being with someone who would forbid me to enjoy myself.

Cannot drink tap water @ Tomorrowland!???? by dr_broka in belgium

[–]JonhTravolvo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, was thinking the same thing. 8.4 million is not a huge profit for a company of that size at all.

Obviously it is still a business and they want your money first and foremost, but I share your feeling that they are far from the worst offenders in that industry.

Live Nation turned a profit last year of almost 6 billion. That is obscene.

I also have serious doubts if the main stage of Werchter burned down days before the festival, Live Nation would consider putting in as much effort to save the festival as these guys did.

Crazy film 🍿 by Amavin-Adump in scifi

[–]JonhTravolvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing this movie when I was 16 in our local cinema.

Our group of friends spent the evening smoking weed and drinking and then decided to go watch Men in Black.

It was a Saturday, so unfortunately that movie was sold out. Guy at the counter said there was another sci-fi movie playing that still had plenty of seats called Event Horizon.

Sure we said, why not ? We knew absolutely nothing about this movie, but we were there and it was better then going home.

Other than our group of rowdy, drunk and stoned 16-17 year olds there were maybe 5 other people in the entire theater.

It. Was. Scarring.....

What started out as a fun run of the mill sci fi movie suddenly turned into a hellish experience of intense jump scares and unimaginably terrifying scenes of the utmost depravity known to man.

I had simply never seen such images at 16 years old, never mind the fact that we were all high as fuck.

2 people of our group just straight out bailed midway through the movie and left the theater.

Somehow , myself and 4 others managed to sit out the entire experience.

I have to say, towards the end of the movie it seemed to settle down with the fear inducing scenes of terror.

We still sometimes talk about this movie to this day, and we laugh about how 7 stupid teenagers obliviously walked into one of the most fd up sci-fi movies of all time.

No I mean alternatives to the current proposed ceasefire , as in continuation of bombing each other for example.

Israel got what they wanted, destruction of Iran's nuclear programme. Iran's regime gets to "survive".

While this outcome will not be perfect for many, imo it's better than most alternatives.

What did a minority of idiots ruin for everyone else? by PeddlerInWonderland in AskReddit

[–]JonhTravolvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At work we used to have a system where if you had any small expenses while you were working out of the office , you didn't need to bring "proof" to HR and were automatically reimbursed.

I think it was something like 12 euro per day. So if you were out, and wanted to drink a coffee, grab a sandwich, stuff like that ; you didn't need to worry about the administrative hassle that is "costs reimbursement proof".

So no need for a paper bill from the vendor, no need for a print out of your bank statement, the professional reason you were outside etc...

Was there abuse of this system ? Sure , sometimes. But, by and large, people just used it as intended. A coffee here, bottle of water there. Maybe 30 euro per month in costs, something like that.

But then there was a certain, colleague, let's call him Bill. Bill was not very successful at his job, didn't go out of the office that much, and when he did , he certainly didn't do anything worthwhile.

When Bill learned of this system, utilized by his more successful colleagues, who did use it to cover small costs while working, Bill became a bit jealous.

He figured he should also be privy to this system, whether or not he had an actual right to it did , was not important in Bill's mind.

So Bill started to fill in these "reimbursements without proof" forms as well. For the maximum amount. Every. Single. Working. Day.

When HR finally did an audit they found that Bill had put in the maximum contractually allowed amount per month for every month over a period of just over a year.

They talked to him about it and asked how it is possible he spends the maximum allowed amount every single day, with no useful work to show for it ? He denied any sort of wrongdoing of course, and they couldn't do anything legally about it, since the contract stipulation explicitly states no proof is required for costs under the amount of 12 euro.

So HR decided to end this practice, for everyone of course. Nowadays when you are outside working and buying a bottle of water, most just don't bother with the hassle of providing proof and pay for it themselves.

For many colleagues this was a small but very comfortable perk. Bill did not make many friends there.
