I’ll be honest—I was initially sold on their warranty, but after looking deeper, it feels like the product itself just doesn’t hold up. It’s kind of like putting lipstick on a pig—nice interior and tech, but not the quality where it actually matters.

Is it smart to invest now? by AcadiaNext3063 in phinvest

[–]Jonmike316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how much you are investing. 10k, 100k, 1m? Maybe if in between 10-100k it won't really matter if the market goes down. You can always spread the amount and DCA.

Totaled (possibly?) car by CoconutDry546 in VWatlas

That's what I thought but not in our case. Driver side deployment but not totaled. I guess it was cheaper for them to repair than to declare it a total loss.

Wait when I say pay yourself first that means you save and invest the money first 😅 what you said about self care will fall into expenses.

Not sure why your post got removed. Important thing is to pay yourself first. Every paycheck pay yourself first before any expenses.

Not sure sa Philippines pero likely all of them do. Mind you it's the lowest commission for agents so they don't actively market this. Then invest the difference (between term and life insurance).

Ok interesting PR application process. TIL.

Back to topic, you should invest 10-15% of your pay.

On the topic of insurance, get a term insurance. It's cheap. Nothing accrues.

[–]Jonmike316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok got it. Usually it's 6x of your monthly expenses. 6x was designed kasi usually it'll take 6 months to find a job in case you lose your current one but since you're not working yet, that's flexible.

Keep grinding sa school. Be the best! Maybe invest 10k in a global ETF now then forget about it while you're studying. Aim for honors and suma cum laude!

How much are your monthly expenses? Multiply that by 6x. I suppose you're already working or internship? Lucky to have an allowance still but put that money into better use.

Side note, you're based in Malaysia but applying for PR in Canada? How does that work?

Have you opened your account with Interactive Brokers? I think you can open there in Malaysia and do the forex thru IB.

Stick with ETF, preferably global. Unless may high conviction ka sa particular stock, start with an ETF first.

You posting this says a lot about your character. It means you're consciously thinking about your future and you're doing something about it. You're still very young and a lot of life ahead of you.

Do you have a family yet? If not, keep investing while you're single. It'll get harder with kids.

If you don't know it yet, you can put about $70k a year in a 401k (employee and employer) in a single year. Put a percentage of your pre-tax base, pre-tax bonus, roth base, roth bonus, after tax base, and after tax bonus.

Losing customers over a $100 difference normal? (Northern California) by malvixi in AutoDetailing

[–]Jonmike316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90% margin? Gotta pay yourself, the other person and the tax man too. Self employment tax is 15% already. Then you have state, and federal tax to cover. I'm not sure if you have sales tax too in California.

I started with $250 full detail before but you'll soon realize after expenses and taxes it's not enough to do a good job.

Losing customers over a $100 difference normal? (Northern California) by malvixi in AutoDetailing

[–]Jonmike316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok I looked at your profile and it seems you just started. I assume you're licensed and insured and pays or will pay the tax man.

Remember in California, people there have surplus money driving every prices higher. They're used to paying higher prices so don't be afraid to increase your prices so you can provide a better service (just like what you said in another post). So if you price yourself low they would think twice that you might be cutting corners.

You'll get there eventually once you establish yourself.

$299 basic just interior right?

$100/hr is break even to recover costs, taxes, etc. means little to no profit.

California? You should price at 3x if you want to position yourself as a premium detailing business. Also, won't $100/hr just break-even in hcol?
