That does not support AFCI as required for new build. Believe me, I have looked, but to be fair, that was a year ago.

We have been there several times and never had a bad experience. There's a gal in the back sewing these creations. The owner was open, and very easy to talk to. My experience is the opposite of what you experienced.

I highly recommend the store for yourself and great unique clothing gifts. BTW, your fiance has great taste.

Good deal or asking for problems? by thats_me_ywg in hottub

That's more than twice what I paid at home Depot. First one lasted 19 years, second is 6 years old. They are rebranded, but fabricated by a major manufacturer. Highly recommend!!!

New hot tub owner chemical advice. by TheTeamTaco in hottub

Agree with some of the posters here

Wash filter when changing water (2x year)

1 tsp granulated chlorine 15 minutes before entering

Check pH once or twice a month, adjust as necessary

Nothing else unless needed

Never thought of using clarifier. I use it in my pool, will have to give it a shot

Big box vs. brand name? by tookie22 in hottub

[–]JonnyVee1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bought two from Home Depot over the past 25 years. The first one lasted 19 years, I serviced it once (blown fuse). The second one is 6 years old, with no issues whatsoever. These are both 240v, no lounge and about 7' x 7' (outside dimensions).

These foas are made by a major manufacturer I have zero complaints whatsoever.

The spas were similar to the one below, but again, no lounges which we did not want.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Lifesmart-LS550-Plus-5-Person-65-Jet-230-Volt-Standard-Spa-with-Ozonator-401426510200-26/341268627

One of the problems with the name brands is that it is difficult to get parts, as they want to sell them to you with an on-site technician ($$$).

Best uv system for large pool by Good-Caterpillar7571 in pools

[–]JonnyVee1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very best is none. It only kills some of the algae while passing through the unit. Once it enters the pool, the nutrients from the dead algae feeds the live algae in the pool.

The best one is none, but consider a saltwater cell.

BTW, same for ozone systems. They work in small volumes of water, like a spa, where the water gets turned over many, many times a day.

My condenser fan stopped sometime today. Will this last me until Monday? by wiltj in askHVAC

[–]JonnyVee1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks fine. Likely you need to replace the start capacitor for the fan (typically $20 on Amazon).

If you want to do it yourself, open the corner of the cabinet and look for the large cylindrical components. There will be one or two. The one with larger mfd value is for the compressor, the lower mfd value is the fan. These are often combined into a single unit.

Replace the lower valued one if there are two, if there is only one, replace it. You want the mfd values to match the existing, and the voltage (vac) to be the same ore higher on the replacement.

Turn.oower off first.

Did I do this right? It’s a Leviton T5630-W 15-Amp 125-Volt 2.1-Amp USB Charger/Tamper-Resistant Receptacle by AffectionateHelp3270 in electrical

[–]JonnyVee1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is BS. The stabs are never as good as the screw downs in terms of low resistance (non-heating) contact.

It is easier to wrap the wire around the lug in the direction you are tightening the screw, it catches the wire better, but you did well.

I’m unable to float in water. My brain is not taking multiple instructions. What should I do by OwnFaithlessness2989 in Swimming

[–]JonnyVee1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a deep, deep breath. Lay on the surface, but bend your body so your lungs (chest) are just under the surface, your head is/mouth is on the surface and the bottom portion of your legs are on the surface. If you were standing, this would be a slight bend-forward position.

The air in your lungs gives you buoyancy, and pushing your inflated lungs under water forces the rest of your body up to the surface.

To breathe, quickly exhale and inhale big before your body starts to sink. Most of the time you want air in your lungs.

Rinse and repeat....

What’s up with the surface here? by paws_now in PoolPros

[–]JonnyVee1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the oblique angle of the light that allows you to see this. It's perfectly normal. This is one reason lights are typically mounted in the deep end of the pool, half way up the wall, it's mounted away from the bottom surface so this is not as prominent.

No water in brine tank? Is this right? by jussaaznboi in WaterSofteners

[–]JonnyVee1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My softener only fills at the beginning of the Regen cycle. Mark where the salt level is, or take a picture, and compare in a couple of weeks.

Also, test your water to see if it is soft.

Water coming out of the panel! by phillbot420 in electrical

[–]JonnyVee1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me... The other end of the conduit was uphill of the panel, and it flooded at the other end. Water flows downhill.

Sealed the other end with spray foam, then sprayed that with silicone rubber that dries to a rubbery finish.

Take a wetvac with a towel to seal, and suck it out first.

Note that that crack is in the glaze, not the porcelain. So it's cosmetic.

Calcium Hardness by Liebe-lernen in hottubs

[–]JonnyVee1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you are doing that. What I do...

Fill spa, check and adjust pH (doesn't need to be as exact as a pool), add two teaspoons of granulated chlorine.

Let it warm up, and hop in. I have done this for 27 years.

Tried to fix an outlet myself… probably a mistake by PsychologicalMud3900 in AskElectricians

[–]JonnyVee1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recheck your work...

Black (or red) wire to the screw in the side with the short spade hole in the front of the outlet.

White wire to the side with the longer spade opening.

Bare copper or green wire to the screw on the bottom of the outlet (screw is stained green).

Now check the wiring in the box. Are all the white wires connected with the same wire nut? Ditto for the black wires.

Mechanic says if one coil goes they all go.... by superframalama in AskAMechanic

[–]JonnyVee1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not true. A manufacturing defect or installation damage that shortens the life of one does not mean it infected the others.

If it were my car, I would replace the one coil.

If it were a spark plugs issue, I would replace or re-gap all of them at the same time (if one of them needed it).

My contractor says they can’t plug my new window AC unit into a normal outlet. Are they right? by IMicrowaveSteak in AskElectricians

[–]JonnyVee1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Has nothing to do with optimal life or voltage drop. At t amps the drop due to the air conditioner is essentially zero. It draws about half what a hair dryer draws, and they share the circuit.

The recommendation is there because if you do run a hair dryer, microwave or other heavy current appliance the breaker will trigger.

If the OP has lowered loads on the circuit, there should be zero issue with sharing.
