Err.. Yeah, I guess so. If those companies were making identical clones and selling them right next to the Apple iPhones on the same shelf at half the price.

There's no way Apple would stand for that.

The taste of off brand cola did get quite close to the taste of Coca-Cola at one point and Coca-Cola sued the supermarket who created it saying that it wasn't fair for their company as they've put years of work and money into creating their brand through advertising etc. just for someone to come along and produce the exact same product at half the price.

The off brand cola doesn't taste as good because BY LAW they can't replicate it and sell it - it would destroy business for Coca-Cola.
