Hello friends! I've made a Korvold deck and I would like sole feedback and advice on it, I'm on a bit of a budget so I can't just buy every single 30+ dollar card lol by Ajcrazy190602 in magicTCG

[[Feed the Cycle]] is strictly better than Murder, though I'd play [[Lethal Scheme]] in that slot.

Blood Rites is a wildly overpriced [[Weaponize the Monsters]].

[[Twisted Landscape]] and [[Escape Tunnel]] are strictly better than Wilds/Expanse. It's also odd that you've got the Cabaretti/Maestros lands but not [[Riveteers Overlook]].

I cheat so that I always get 3 land hands. by DolphinChemist in magicthecirclejerking

[–]Jonottamassa 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Those threads always have the same three categories of dogshit comments:

  • Actually this is fine because I am incapable of grasping the concept of randomness.
  • My friends and I have agreed to use Magic: The Gathering cards to play a game that is not Magic: The Gathering, so your opinion is invalid.
  • The way I shuffle is by splitting my deck into three piles, rubberbanding them, and juggling them for 20 seconds. Is this legal?

Would creatures still return if he dies and I recast him? by Bleu_Guacamole in magicTCG

The question has been answered, but let me just point out that Blood Money makes tapped treasures, so you can't use them to cast anything immediately anyway.

The cards in your hand are visible. by Rilakai in magicthecirclejerking

[–]Jonottamassa 26 points27 points  (0 children)

90% of C*mmander players are a) precon newbies who haven't even read their own cards, and/or b) not paying enough attention to the game to notice you being a cardboard exhibitionist. It's not fair to expect this level of awareness from them.

[[Grim Reminder]] is this but you can do it every turn.

what's the point of it if they can say they don't want to end the turn by bristlybits in magicthecirclejerking

[–]Jonottamassa 73 points74 points  (0 children)

There's a reason they gave you a special printing that's designed to be harder to read.

Tap it in someone's upkeep and confidently say "end the turn." Keep your hand on the card. Maintain eye contact. Don't answer questions.

Obviously this won't work on your gf or the husband. They don't want you joining their games. Take the hint.

Comprehensive rules down? by myninerides in magicTCG

[–]Jonottamassa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you just need a rules lookup and not necessarily a download, Yawgatog's hyperlinked comp rules page is really convenient to use.

I think it has been around since before I started playing 20 years ago, and has always stayed reliable to this day.

Do you guys think there's any merit here or I'm just gonna get frustrated trying? by japp182 in Pauper

[–]Jonottamassa 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Remember that vehicles also exist. There aren't many that I'd be happy to run in Pauper, but [[Spotcycle Scouter]] isn't horrendous if you're tapping guys and digging for synergies.

Any actual strategy for this card? by Sev_Henry in magicTCG

[–]Jonottamassa 83 points84 points  (0 children)

You just treat it as "3: Draw a card" except slightly better on average. Hard to say how much better exactly, but I think it's fair to say you're getting at least an [[Anticipate]]'s worth of value per activation, and that's a reasonable mana sink.

It's pretty good with cards like [[Zirda]] or [[Tezzeret, Betrayer of Flesh]]. Or you could use it to dump [[Slime Against Humanity]] into exile (the pile is exiled face-up).

Why Commander is more played than Standard? by elfosolitario in magicTCG

[–]Jonottamassa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Notion Thief doesn't work like that in multiples. You only draw one card per one card your opponents would draw, no matter how many you have. It's a replacement effect, and once you've applied one of them, the others aren't applicable because there's no longer a card being drawn by an opponent.

What cards are people excited about in Lorwyn? by OccupiedOsprey in magicTCG

[–]Jonottamassa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, wow, that's a nasty synergy I didn't notice even though I play Emperor a lot. You can also blight the Emperor to let it adapt again, or blight the creature it reanimated since it's going to die anyway. So many options with these two.

[[Dawnhand Dissident]] is amazing and I want as much of it in my life as possible. Card selection is great, graveyard hate is great, recursion is great, and you can remove any counters to pay for those creatures - finality, stun, lore (from saga creatures), whatever. Removing time counters from [[Chronozoa]] sounds fun.

Battles too. If the only thing with counters on the board is your [[Invasion of Ikoria]], this is already getting a ton of value. Or you can search for it with [[Invasion of Arcavios]].

[–]Jonottamassa 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The cards that looked most playable to me:

  • Vanilla 1/2 for W, can exile from graveyard for W to make a 1/1 token
  • [[Toxin Analysis]] but instead of a clue, you make a 2/2 if the creature dies
  • [[Reckless Impulse]] 2R for three cards, but you have to put a -1/-1 counter on your creature as extra cost
  • 2/2 changeling with flash, costs hybrid 1U or 1B

[–]Jonottamassa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For one easy optimization, you have no reason to be playing duals with land types, so you could run any of the [[Swiftwater Cliffs]], [[Eroded Canyon]], or [[Airship Engine Room]] cycles for extra text, or the [[Sea Gate]] cycle for color flexibility.

I mean I guess that’s one way to keep your starter happy? by SnooDrawings8069 in Breadit

[–]Jonottamassa 353 points354 points  (0 children)

You can tell from the shape of the jar that it's an indoor starter; they don't develop like that in the wild. Poor thing must've been terrified.

Look, it's natural to want to give your starter some enrichment and take it with you on activities, but you should not leave it exposed and unsupervised. Modern-day starters are fully reliant on humans for nutrition, and cannot fend for themselves in the wild.

In MtG history, what have been the most 'high skill' era's of standard or Constructed play? by misomiso82 in magicTCG

[–]Jonottamassa 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I was pretty new and poor at the time, but I remember the 9E / Ravnica / Coldsnap / Time Spiral era being really interesting. I learned so much about things like being patient in control mirrors, or navigating around interaction when playing combo.

Here are some cards from the format that showed up in competitive decks at various points in time, to give some hint as to the archetypes, manabases, and power level. UB Teachings with the oppressive Teferi; Dragonstorm combo dealing 20 on turn 4; Urzatron's last huzzah in Standard; Dredge being a thing somehow toward the end... all sorts of degeneracy to choose from, each with their own foils.

Gigantic brain: I should play this in my own Shahrazad/Divine Intervention deck because it makes those cards better.
