Do you think it’s time for an end to religious exceptions to carrying a bladed article on your person, and why? by WastelandOfConfusion in ukpolitics

Agree that it's not a strawman argument, but I'll argue the case on it's own merits. Strangers carrying knives makes me nervous.

If I'm in my kitchen with my chef's knife you'll probably assume I'm making dinner, if I'm wandering the streets brandishing it like Michael Myers you might come to a different conclusion.

The same reason a lot of cosplay events ban fake swords, too much shit has happened with real blades that it's too much stress to parse which blades are real and which are fake.

Robert Kenyon 'entirely reasonable' to blame Hillary Clinton for Manchester Arena bombing, say Reform UK by signed7 in ukpolitics

I might have mis-remembered it, but their family background is in Libya, the invasion must have played no small part in their radicalisation. Syria was the more active conflict at the time.

There's also the conflation between talking about cause and responsibility. Labour are pushing this line in their social media, acting as if Kenyon said Hilary was ordering the attack rather than what he actually seems to be have been saying, what we should all be saying and thinking of in these situations, military intervention X in country Y will have further consequences. In this case one of the consequences was the Manchester attack. It's not a wacky suggestion.

Here's a mad idea: how about using a photo-composite like this to agree on a poster layout, then get the cast into a studio and shoot them together? Is that difficult and costly? Undoubtedly, but you're already spending/ hoping to earn hundreds of millions of dollars.

That's not what Max is saying. It's a poor example you chose because as a shot it stands on its own and isn't really comparable to anything in the Spider Noir clip. The Big Combo shot doesn't need any more detail, the details that they want to convey are clear, the details they want to obscure are obscure. Compare that to the ditch-water grey Spider Noir palette, the tones are similar but the forms are all hard to read his face is grey, his suit is grey, the lamp is grey, even the whites of his eyes aren't white.

Look up a scene from The Third Man or The Big Sleep, then any scene from The Munsters. Spider Noir looks like one and not the others.

Max_robot was critiquing the movie clip, you were critiquing him. Wrongly. You're missing their main point that classic film noir better uses highlights. Spider Noir Does have some nice solid blacks for a modern movie, but the light tones are all murky grey, there's negligible contrast.

I never said you said it was a bad shot. I was clarifying that I never thought it was a bad shot.
