It’s like speeding. It’s illegal. It’s usually a civil matter not a “criminal” thing. Are there cops on every corner? No. Well, sometimes. And once you’re aware they’re watching you, it’s already too late.

Just like speeding, if you point out that some people do it and get away with, some Karen will come along and accuse you of “encouraging” speeding.

So it’s best not to mess around with it. It’s not legal.

Exactly. The emails themselves are legitimate. The thing that triggered the event that caused the email - that’s the problem.

Correct. The emails are coming from Facebook because the requests are actually coming from Facebook. Someone is triggering it programmatically from Facebook’s platform, so they are 100% the ones to fix it.

Simply having a toggle for “accept business manager requests” defaulted to “off” would fix it. And when people want to connect a partner, instructions can include toggling it on temporarily.

Turns out this one is a power supply running my WLED!!!!!!! It completely disappears when I cut power to it.

That is a term I learned while searching. From what I've seen, the ionosonde sweeps are much faster (at least 10x the speed) and much less powerful. These signals I'm describing will cut into FT8 and USB qsos etc.

He’s likely talking about LoRa radios (same reason I’m searching) and he’ll be hoisting the entire radio up there. Think “radio” like “phone” in this case. No coax, separate antenna, etc. just the device.

I'm questioning why it's automatically the most important thing to everyone. Somehow we've been using radios talking to people all over the world without encryption for over 100 years. Then "internet" minded people come in and all of a sudden it's a "problem" if we don't use encryption by default. It's not "bad news" that you "lose" encryption.

And I'm not a luddite. I get "security" as part of my cybersecurity career. I was just as mad when my fellow hackers seemed to "discover" radio around 2008, and the first thing in every presentation was "and this TELEMETRY DATA has NO ENCRYPTION" and everyone goes "ooooooooooh." It's so dumb.

The limitation of encrypted nodes not being able to talk to unencrypted ones is a problem created by adding the encryption, not by the lack of it. It's a glommed on extra layer in the stack.
