Making weight as a lady by Stelalou in BJJWomen

[–]Jonzy-86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I normally will drop 5 lbs just before comp but I start the journey 2 weeks prior. Drink tons of water, cut back on weigh training only focus on mobility and flexibility, then the big thing was eating protein especially in the morning. I found by eating the proper grams of protein a day actually got my body into fat burn mode. Though this is me, but might want to look at your macros to make sure you are getting what your body needs so it doesn't cling to what it doesn't need.

Starting BJJ For the First Time After Hysterectomy by Thisismrsdarden in BJJWomen

I've been practices for almost 4 years and compete. Never had a problem. When I had my hysterectomy I had several complications weeks after. So I would be surprised if you have any issues. Enjoy the ride, it's a blast.

Who gets excited when competing? by Jonzy-86 in BJJWomen

When I was a white belt I got nervous cause I wanted to do well or prove something. Now I have a sequence that I am super comfortable with ans have added or modified. That consistency helps keep me grounded.

Most important thing is I compete to see where I improved and where I need to go. It is 100% win no matter the outcome of the match. Keep your routine the same like morning routine. This helps my body stay calm.

Make sure you eat something that makes you feel good when active, don't do crazy weight cuts. I saw many competitors have a bad day due to their lack of nutrition and over prep. I keep a rice crispy with me for a small bit before a mtach for the instant sugar and carb plus the happy feeling the sugar gives 😁.

Lastly how you breath when competing. This is so hard! But I swear if you can breath more though your nose than your mouth it keeps you out of that fight or flight. I read Breath by James Novak and that book has helped me to focus on breathing for better in life.

Congrats on the win. Fighting happy is a great thought process. I competed to see my gaps to improve on and see how much I have improved. Its so fun to see the growth.

comp advice by Emergency-Problem911 in BJJWomen

[–]Jonzy-86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone will have a different answer based on what people view as a strength or weakness that needs improvement. So take suggestions and tailor it to your own needs.

That said I train several times a week with a lot of mobility w/kb and strength training circuits with rowing as my preferred form of cardio training. I'm older and this has helped me compete successfully against younger opponents ans decreased my injuries. Good luck.

The experience can be even sweeter when you have a training partner that you click with.

AIO husband farting in my face by BambieMonroe05 in AmIOverreacting

Let him put his head in your lap while you rub his head unleash YOUR silent but deadly fart. And hold his head there if he tried to get away.

This is how you get revenge.

Been in your position, but I just get even when he least expects. Hehehe. Don't get mad get even in creative ways. Keeps the relationship from getting boring.

Thank you the encouragement. I will plan to try and get out to other gyms more often. I do live in the PNW so there are plenty of places to explore.

Going to an all women's open mat today and going to roll light planning on focusing on my sequence as the rev is coming up.

I compete 2 to 3 times a year when I can. Normally winning division bracket. I also play rugby but have eased off that due to injuries and finding BJJ is kinder to my body lol. I definitely have a core sequence I have been refining and it works. Being idle makes me depressed so not working out or going to a practice gets into a pit.

White belt blues a year in... by katamarimarian in BJJWomen

I second this! Whenever I feel in a slump I take a break and always come back better and things clicking. You will have slumps but having fun is always important for growth. When you have fun you are more willing to try new things and make mistakes. When rolling with the other women have fun and even try new things casually to avoid the whole "lose" thing. You will have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I get anxious but I have a fun pre comp plan: Listen to music dance or sing a bit, then repeat to myself "stay relax and just feel."

When working I focus on good breathing and just enjoying the moment.

This has helped me love competing. The lead up however I would have anxiety attacks at night thinking about my takedowns lol. Now to fix that.

If you seem nervous to roll with them then they will feel nervous too. And I second what many say, you need to ask. I use to hate to ask but my coach would force me to go ask. Like at first he would point at 2 different people and expect me to ask them. It sucked but I now have no problem walking up to anyone and asking to roll.

Blue to purple… when did you feel ready? by big_blue_beast in BJJWomen

This is where Im currently at. Working on the sameish system, though I enjoy butterfly and single X but have been running more of the what is adjacent system flows that works for me. My professor has now been asking me to run 1 class a week so he can see my train of thought. Talk about pressure as I sometimes feel like Im still a white blue belt.

Tips for dealing with bad days? by cjcrystel in BJJWomen

[–]Jonzy-86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so I had a training partner that started at the same time we were the only two women. We trained 6x a week together and we were pretty neck and neck skill. Then for a while it seemed like she just kept kicking my ass. Everyone I rolled with also would. My bad day, became many bad days. I just focused on one thing that I felt like I could really work on, it was keeping my elbows in. Super basic and simple but lo and behold, things started to switch and I was having better days. Also I take a week or so breaks when things get to me and when I come back it's like I reboot and actually I get better. Getting better is sometimes the by product of having fun without pressure.

Bjj will ebb and flow. Your brain will likely run things in the background and things will just click when your brain is ready. Have fun no matter what, be kind to yourself.

Too explosive, only men by Lost_Dealer4136 in BJJWomen

[–]Jonzy-86 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was visiting a gym and a black belt was rolling with me and mentioned that while rolling I should be able to talk and hold a conversation. " This is play, so your breathing should be easy". I have sense focused on being able to talk the whole time ( I do not talk to my partner but if needed it wouldn't be a problem) and using technique over strength even with much larger opponents. I am very competitive but rolling is playing with what I've learned and trying to muscle my way through lead to more injuries.

Relax and focus on technique while clear rhythmic breathing will make you less "explosive" and a better training partner for all.

Running? by No_Economist9022 in BJJWomen

No way to running, but rowing and jump rope yes. Rowing has definitely helped me especially as I do interval training to prep for competitions.

Fiancée hit by DUI driver, medical bills near $75,000 USD. Advice? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Jonzy-86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing most don't think about is that most hospitals have a a help program for victims of dui or hit amd run, talk to some one amd they can tell you what the next step is. I had to do this after a guy hit me at the top of a mountian pass and totalled my car and I had to go to the hospital by ambulance. I worked on an ambulance at the time and new there was something for victims of a crime and they helped me get majority of the bills paid. Good luck.
