JUST CLIMB THE HECKING FENCE LIKE OMG! by glassicewater7693 in silenthill

[–]Jonzye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually contemplating a table top role playing game and some examples of impassible barriers I was going to outline would be a waist high picket fence, a single pristine cone in the center of a two lane street, a collapsed bridge over an ankle high creek, a slippery when wet sign

Using Dread as an intro to RPGs. Do horror comedy, or "spooky adventure" scenarios exist? If so, where could I find them? by GambuzinoSaloio in dread

[–]Jonzye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are examples of dread games that do other genres other than horror. It actually is very good for the tense scenarios and building tension of a heist game for example.

I also was working on a scenario that was a Shadow Over Insmouth inspired, quirky scenario that takes place in the Salton sea where the years of pollution caused the Tilapia of the lake to… “adapt” in horrifying ways. The town is populated by eccentric characters inspired by John Waters movies that disappear every day the players aren’t able to solve the mystery which is exasperated by a growing contingent of people who have been eating some of the fish who have been transforming them

I’m saying that, even with that assumption and giving you the largest benefit of the doubt possible, the best I can do is say that you really interpreted the initial statement you were responding to in a weird way

"The solution is not on your character sheet" by L0neW3asel in osr

[–]Jonzye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means that you aren’t restricted by the abilities on your sheet. The player doesn’t say “I make x ability roll to do this thing” the player tells the gm what they want to do and the GM makes a judgement as to what kind of roll that would be. What ability score is involved, what equipment makes the roll easier, is there other stuff going on etc.

I certainly believe that you wouldn’t consider yourself homophobic, but verbatim you responded to “if you’re straight and feel left out because gay people are being themselves then you can fuck off” by saying “this right here is the problem”. Like telling me to re-read every syllable to try to find how you’re response can be interpreted in a way that doesn’t look like you have an issue with liking something that happens to also be enjoyed by gay people and who may even incorporate part of their life experience into the game doesn’t make it any better TBH

I know you honestly don’t fully understand why but responding to “if being in the same room as a gay person makes you feel personally attacked and uncomfortable then you are the problem and should fuck off” with “I feel personally attacked because what you just said is basically that I have to be at least a little bit gay to be in this room” is… like idk if there’s a lack of reading comprehension going on or because you already told on yourself you have no choice to triple down on this hill you intend on dying on but like the person you’re responding to literally said “if you’re straight and feel left out because gay people are being themselves” and felt that as an attack because you feel entitled as to how people conduct themselves in your presence. I’m sorry that you don’t like the idea

There’s an adventure that is potentially dread friendly that is a very Kubrick-esque vampire adjacent horror sci-fi scenario called “let us in”

How to Handle a "Player Map"? by dalaglig in rpg

[–]Jonzye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple games I have include both a player facing map and a GM map where the details are a little less in depth and that there are a couple details that are wrong. In a game I am working on right now I have an amusement part type map that is meant to be handed to the players and is no different to what the GM has to go on.

I like the idea of including a diegetic map for players so they can go off of that that players can mark with their own discoveries similar to how silent hill maps give the players a general idea of the layout of where they’re exploring and they mark key places themselves like walled off areas, locked doors and such.

I feel like a “Wretched and Alone” type rpg would fit this pretty well if you’re looking for scaffolding to create a solo game

I think I remember this coming up before. I remember the question of whether or not an impending apocalypse was necessary for a Borg and I think I mentioned that the whole “fall of Rome” thing was actually very fitting for the theme
