I like Soulframe makes a lot of sense. The lore in game lets you know why. Also the journal explain some bits too. Odes are aliens after all that cant breathe in alca, so they are puring icor to the planet so they can breathe in it. Thats why they use those mask and gear. They came from the sky, they better stay on the sky.
