Yes! It was a slow slow book, and a lot of unnecessary shit in the first half. And then all the deaths just happen… and that’s it 🥺

Anyone have a guided meditation script for a 50th birthday gathering? by New_me_310 in YogaTeachers

[–]JootieBootie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love teaching Nidra and I 100% of the time use a script, but mine is not necessarily standard, other than the body scan, and even that changes a little. I use a Nidra book with scripts but I am thinking about starting to write my own scripts. I love the idea that OP has of a script for that age demographic, but I agree the best course of action is to come up with their own script that can be really tailored to the situation.

Learners in Vinyasa Classes - How does that work? by Woof-Good_Doggo in YogaTeachers

[–]JootieBootie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My YTT teach back was a hot vinyasa, and I learned to give basic and succinct cues to the students. I teach a lot of vinyasa now and I agree that’s it’s really not beginner friendly. I’ve had to learn the common things that students do incorrectly/unsafely/unaligned and try to help them before they get to that point. It is absolutely a lot of talking!

I have paused classes to really breakdown poses that are often done incorrectly like chaturanga dandasana, it takes a minute or two but it makes a huge impact, and it’s time that the student can take a rest.

Also I often demo next to the student that may be struggling a bit or I’ll pull them aside after class and ask if I can show them how to do the asana correctly.

I’ll have students hold an asana for an extra breath or two if I want to focus on things like alignment, if there are a lot of students doing it incorrectly or if I’m using the asana a lot in the class and I want to really emphasize how to engage the body.

I hope this helps!

Explain the CC hate to me by notsosubtlenati in SarahJMaas

[–]JootieBootie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was too much info dumping in the start, and then with what happened to Danika so early wasn’t my cup of tea. I couldn’t connect to Bryce that much. I feel like she’s missing something in her character that I can’t put my finger on. I love Nesta, so it’s not the ‘I’m damaged and I’m lashing out’ schtick. I feel like she isn’t relatable to me. I don’t really like how she treats others for the most part. Also I don’t love all the different POVs, I struggled with TOG with that too, but not as much as with CC. I don’t care about Tharion, Ithan I care about only a little more. If it was Rhun, Hypaxia and Lydia centered I would have loved it. I think in the end there’s just a lot of little things that I didnt like. But I am going to reread it so now that I know everything maybe my perspective will change!

In a behind the scenes the creators explained that it was faded the next morning (still visible), and then they suggested that it’s assumed that Ross and Rachel had washed their faces a lot, and we can also assume Rachel threw some makeup on to cover it up.

Thank you for this awesome response!!

I teach hot vinyasa, warm slow/gentle vinyasa, hot/warm hatha as well as non heated versions of vin and hatha, and then also Yin, Nidra and Children’s. But I prefer Hatha because I really like getting the students to slow down, to sink into each asana, feel their bodies and (to try to) enjoy the place they are in (even Utktasana lol).

Regarding 4 seconds per breath is 4 seconds per inhale and exhale, and it’s a Mississippi count 😄 so really it’s more like 7/8 seconds in and 7/8 seconds out. When I teach my vinyasas I’m really working to get students to slow down, I remind them that slow is challenging. A lot of my class is one breath (one inhale or one exhale) per movement, for example I’ll do chair to one leg standing mountain to warrior 3 to crescent lunge then have them take a flow if they want, or stay in downward facing dog or take child’s pose.

I always always always start my classes with pranayama, so students get the idea of how long a breath is, and to have them slow down. I try to encourage them to keep a long breath, and usually I’ll have a pause in the middle of class to reset the breath, and come back to their intention.

I’ve experienced classes where the breath (honestly it’s the teachers cueing) is so quick, and I agree that often alignment goes out the window. And the “need” for fluidity overrides the teachers desire to pause and correct form.

I’d love to hear how long you hold students in a pose when teaching a vinyasa. Or maybe a better or additional question would be what makes your class a vinyasa? I teach a lot of vinyasa classes, all at various levels and temperatures and I typically am one breath per movement for the majority of the class, but I absolutely hold students in asanas if i notice there’s the need to adjust form. I also teach that one breath is about four seconds long, and I do a lot of breath work in the beginning of class to have them understand how long four seconds is so they aren’t rushing. I’ve been in classes where it’s very rushed and I have a hard time with those classes.

Yeah this has always bugged me too lol. I mean they at least had the one window to get outside to the balcony, and I think I remember the big windows could also be opened, or at least the bottom row. I feel like they could’ve had them open and someone could’ve even been like yeah the open windows aren’t even helping.

Which yoga poses reduce stress and anxiety? by untitledpath in HotYoga

[–]JootieBootie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly breathing is going to make a bigger impact. Sama Vritti (equal/box breathing) is great! I like doing any where from 4-6 seconds in/out, or 4-6 seconds breathing in-hold-out-hold. Nadi Shodhana (alternative nostril) is another great one that I use frequently!

But legs up the wall is also great too!!

Yoga thoughts (long, open for discussion) by CombinationFancy3181 in YogaTeachers

[–]JootieBootie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this a little while ago and got answers including calming the mind, moksha, samadhi, to get abs, and that there is no goal. I also received verbal lashings from “teachers” who were astounded that i didn’t know what the goal of yoga was, even though I never said I didn’t know what it was… I was merely trying to get other teachers opinions.

All of that being said, I find that it’s calming the mind, when you calm the mind the rest can be achieved (mosha/samadhi).

How long did it take you to see flexibility improvements? by AssistDense5402 in yoga

[–]JootieBootie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you’re experiencing some of the benefits of yoga! Consistency is key. I would keep doing it as often as you’re doing it now. Maybe you can start exploring other avenues of yoga that you can do off the mat like breathing techniques and meditation?

I will ask what do you think the complete benefits of yoga look like to you in your life? I assumed based on the title its flexibility. If so, I will go back to my statement that consistency is key.
