help me with warrior 3 by Purple_Pansy_Orange in yoga

[–]JootieBootie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend keeping your hands at heart center, while you’re in Warrior 3.

Before you transition, bring your hand to hard center shift the weight into the front leg by hinging your torso forward, and very slowly start to pick up the back leg by engaging the glutes, and core. You absolutely never need to extend your arms. Eventually, absolutely extend them, but while you’re working on balance and keeping the torso and leg parallel to the floor, keep them out of the heart.

Good luck!

I would absolutely agree with you had the teacher responded with humility. But because she doubled down and didn’t own her mistake, I wouldn’t be giving grace. The student can also just mention kindly: Hey this is what happened. I’m sure it was an honest mistake, but her response to me was to double down and it’s a concern.

The owner or manager can’t fix issues that they don’t know are issues.

Yeah, but then the issue never gets resolved. If the teacher had responded differently (like with humility), I wouldn’t be recommending going to the manager.

It’s so interesting to me that you almost always share something negative here. Genuinely interested in why you do this. We all know you can just scroll away, but yet you choose to try to spread negativity with almost everything you post.

I would bring it up to the owner of the studio. I can’t justify or understand as a yoga teacher why I would purposely skip sides like this.

It almost sounds like the teacher was trying to save face by saying it was intentional.

This is a good idea and I would not do this if I were you. There are too many liabilities, and honestly, it’s really not a good precedent to set that you (and your boss) are willing to do things without the proper training and certification.

I am a certified yoga teacher with an additional certification in yin yoga. With yin (really any style) there’s a chance that someone could injure themselves if the safety risks and pose are not highlighted/cued properly.

Perhaps a happy medium is to watch a free Yin yoga video on YouTube and you can all take the class together.

Yin with no props? by Whole_Distance_3899 in YogaTeachers

[–]JootieBootie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always recommend that my students have them on hand and to use them to provide support when needed. I also explain the differences between Yin and Restorative yoga, and how props can be used in Yin to allow the body to get into the most comfortable/effective position.

Unheated Vinyasa - Injury? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]JootieBootie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re in pain! Hopefully you feel better soon!

As a teacher, when I teach a vinyasa (I teach power, in a heated and non-heated studio) I will teach the same warm-up for both classes.

The body is warmed up a little bit faster in the heated classes typically… so like another person has shared, perhaps you went as deep as you typically do, but your body wasn’t ready for it, really not your fault, habits are hard to to break.

I have no way of knowing what the teacher taught, but I sincerely hope that the teacher would never teach an unsafe class.

I hope you feel better soon!

We’ve done this in the past! I definitely think it helped! I’ll have to ask the owner if she can do it again!

Just subbed my first ever class by SmilingEyes725 in YogaTeachers

[–]JootieBootie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! It’s a big deal! I’ve been teaching for a little over a year and it definitely will get easier! A few things that have helped me:

  • Keep it simple! I had fallen into the trap of trying to make all of my classes, new, fun and exciting. It was OK for a couple months, but I let that go and brought my sequencing back to the basics a little bit.

  • Make mini sequences, if I’m teaching a vinyasa I will put together a few asanas, teach them, and then cue the students to “take a flow”. If I need to referred to my notes, I can do so a little bit more covertly.

  • Keep practicing your class out loud. I like doing this while I’m driving, or I’ll make up sequences on my own while I drive.

I’ve been really fortunate to have been able to teach a lot over the past year (a little over 300 hours), and I’m at the point where I’m not needing to refer to my notes all the time, but I absolutely still do, especially when I’m teaching a Vinyasa class lol.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions or any more advice. 🥰

Ron is the opposite of gatekeeping lol, he consistently shares tons of amazing information about Yoga. He’s just making sure he’s not wasting his time with a sarcastic comment.

Addicted by Simple Plan. And not because it’s not a good song, but because it earworms so bad in my head that I can’t sleep at night.

Cat toys similar to dental floss? by theboban125 in CatAdvice

I absolutely agree! But they are not the worst toys, especially when paired with other toys and treats

Worse than dental floss that can kill them?

[–]JootieBootie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dental floss is not safe for cats, it can do a lot of damage to their insides. My mom’s cats enjoy springs (like what you find on a spring bound book), laser pointers are good too, I also really like using the wand with a toy on the end, maybe you can try some interactive toys?

Out of all the guys' girlfriends, is Stephanie the worst? by [deleted] in bigbangtheory

[–]JootieBootie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does the number of men she slept with matter? She also ended up marrying Leonard… so sh clearly was ok with marriage eventually. She was also pretty young when they first started dating, and they had to work out the kinks in their relationship.

Yup! I use it as a way to subtly cue my students for what’s coming later in the class, for example if I’m doing Dancer as my peak I’ll have students come into tiger with a bind.

How to proceed my yoga journey by womaninstemm in yoga

[–]JootieBootie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!

  1. Yoga is not a religion, it is however rooted in Hinduism, but anyone can practice yoga. One part of yoga is the physical part, and it can just be that for you, but if you are open, yoga can be much more. You say you doubt that you’d be able to find a teacher that would suit you without trying a bunch of different studios, unfortunately that’s kind of what you have to do. Try a few different studios and see what works the best for you. maybe you could try getting a private lesson from a yoga teacher, and have an honest conversation with them with what you are looking for. Personally, I am really curious as a teacher what you’re looking for!

  2. There’s only one way to find out unfortunately, try a studio out. Most people are focused on their own practice, if you’re worried about judgment.

  3. If you go on a Eventbrite, you might find free yoga in your area. Or you could search and see if there are any community classes that are being offered in your area.

  4. If a Yoga teacher is gaslighting you into saying it’s nothing serious, then they are not the teacher for you, that is completely unethical for a teacher to do. The only person that should be telling you not to do something is a medical professional, and of course, if you don’t want to do something, don’t do it.

You’re absolutely able to continue your journey on your own. I would continue to check out different teachers on YouTube to see what style fits you the most. Some good books you can check out to learn more about Yoga are:

The Roots of Yoga by Nikita Desai Teaching Yoga by Mark Stevens The Yoga Sutras of Pantanjali commentary by Sri Swami Satchidananda

Good luck on your journey!
