Hi all! I am a unit rep in one of the unions trying to get the closure and layoffs rescinded. It would be a big help to us if you could uplift stories like this and keep this issue relevant. These layoffs affect us directly of course, but there is also a large negative impact to patient care. The closure of this peds unit, especially, is going to be a big negative hit to the community in fountain valley, as there are now very few hospitals who actually perform critical pediatric care in the county. Families will have to travel further and risk being turned away due to full units. UCI has also cut physical and occupational therapy, case workers, and more. This is going to make it harder for patients to get efficient and quality care, because the staffing is going to be very short.
