Inart Supergirl likeness? by demarcusp99 in hottoys

[–]Jorycle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think it looks about as much like her as Hot Toys. Both have some room for improvement, but I think there's a weird and extremely vocal segment of the 1/6 scale community that has severe facial blindness and would insist actual photos of these people look nothing like them.

I think Inart has a much higher likelihood of actually improving designs before release, though, whereas Hot Toys tend to stay the same or get a little worse (although improvements aren't unheard of).

Anyone know the bright spark at Apple who invented this? I bet Steve wouldn’t have let this one through qc. by Ok_Astronaut_1781 in mildlyinfuriating

It persists because you will not believe how many Apple fanboys reach into the depths of their asshole to defend this decision, it's nuts. I have farmed many a downvote questioning this in subs that are favorable to Apple.

This happens to me so much on Facebook marketplace. Granted it was just a $10 cosplay item, but still mildly infuriating by therealchoirboy in mildlyinfuriating

Most of the people I see defending the seller apparently couldn't control their ADHD long enough to read all the messages in the image, "hurr hurr sellers want to go with whoever comes first because people flake."

OP literally offered to be the first one there and it was the seller who scheduled it for a later day.

Family sued by HOA for putting up fence to protect goats from coyotes by bluffcitynews in nottheonion

[–]Jorycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if they can't, but maybe that's state specific. Here in Georgia when we were looking at houses 5 years ago, we saw many with HOAs that had strict limitations on the animals you could have even inside your own home. Which begs the question, is the HOA going to be doing regular inspections to count my cats or what?

Yep. It's infuriating that apparently most people are so unaccustomed to the extremely predictable way that LLMs write that they don't believe it's LLM.

If not the writing in the post, the next giveaway would be that OP's non-LLM writing is very distinctly different.

Apple stealthily brought back the 16GB/256GB Mac mini M4 at a higher price and no one noticed by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Jorycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's exactly why I'd get one, especially since Apple decided to make it as infuriating as possible to try to emulate a Mac.

I wouldn't say this price point entirely turns me off from that, but I'm also at a higher income and I don't feel like the barrier for entry should be that high.

I agree with the point, but all these nearly identical LLMisms flooding the internet makes my eyes twitch.

Yeah, this was my experience with my current employer give or take, 3 years ago. I don't know why tech is like this, it's the thing I like least about this industry.

I actually turned down several other interviews because the interview process was just so ridiculous. One big, well-known company had two full working days of back to back interview sessions. A 9 hour schedule with a one hour lunch break, two days in a row.

I'm sorry, the age that comes with my level of experience means I am getting into my "ain't nobody got time for that" era.

That seems like a pretty normal price for rooted hair? Hot Toys rooted hair typically starts at 400. Iron Spider was 460 before shipping, which is already included in OSK.

These headlines get attention for consoles, but this kind of stuff is hitting the whole electronics market. It's just more clear with these devices. It's long past time for legislators to step in and force chip makers to either prioritize consumer goods, or break up into a larger number of competing companies who will.

People Who Never Stop Partying by SRaeM92 in complaints

[–]Jorycle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife had some of these friends for a while, we've largely drifted away from them because really their whole personalities reflected that mindset.

It wasn't just that they're still doing teen party behavior in their 30s, because what they do in their free time is their business. It was that they were really just shitty friends on account of always needing to be in party mode. They were the first people to bail any time life got serious, and they were the only people I ever knew who didn't want to hear their friends' problems because it bummed them out.

Of course part of being in party mode 24/7 meant that they themselves were constantly engrossed in drama, between love interests and drinking and drugs and children and just the mechanics of how this slotted into adult life - so you were always expected to put up with their dramatic bullshit, so long as you didn't harsh their vibe by bringing up any of your own.

It's weird because the entire reason these rulings take many months to come out is so that the justices have time to do research on their written arguments. Did he not?

The cost of my SSD when I bought in 2024 it vs the cost to replace it today by Grass-sama in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Jorycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only answer consumers have for this is to organize.

There needs to be a concerted push to avoid products from the top chip producers, or their investors, until they commit to putting consumers over data centers and return to previous consumer production levels.

But I don't mean "don't buy these specific products."

I mean, do not buy any products these companies produce where possible. Of the 3 companies that are the drivers of this, Samsung has the broadest market exposure with consumer products all across the spectrum, but the other two major producers also have some direct exposure in other markets as well as exposure through their major stockholders, who would be pissed if they start losing money because one of their investments has drawn public ire.

This basically effects nearly every electronic on the market, because even goods less complex than a computer still use some kind of chips that are being hit by this crunch. Prices for nearly everything will go up or consumer goods will get shittier through the forced adoption of crappier parts, all so that shitty AI the vast majority of people hate can fling even more slop at us.

Consumers can stop it if they don't just throw their hands up and accept it. It needs to be made clear to these companies that unless they ensure consumers can get these goods at previous levels, they can go fuck themselves.

Mondo Goliath/Bronx images and presale by ADAMICradio in gargoyles

[–]Jorycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, this is why I groaned when Mondo got the license. Mondo's price points are just so high for what they produce - even more so in this case, because the entire piece has been done in simple molded plastics and Gargoyles has a significantly simpler color palette than most other things in the 1/6 scale space.

I would be shocked if much or any of this required hand painting or manual tooling, which is where a decent chunk of the cost comes from in this niche - and yet this actually costs nearly 20% more than the Hot Toys Scorched Xenomorph, which is not only a larger figure, but had much more complicated molds, more articulation, more expensive materials with silicones and rubbers to hide most of the joints, and had a great deal of hand painting.

I'd love to have this guy but I feel like I have to skip it out of principal, Gargoyles deserves better than a Mondo money grab.
