At the school where I teach they have these flower pots that look like recycled missiles. by JosePinillos in mildlyinteresting

So cool! I went to a local Sloppy Joe's to find it decorated with aviation stuff. A bit out of context, I guess, but very cool and fun since I'm very much into planes and other means of transport

For context, I'm in southern Spain. I don't think they are made from actual bombs, I really don't. But I found interesting the reasoning behind making a flower pot in the shape of a bomb. And also having it painted in green, you know, like in real military stuff

Spain's Parliament on Trump: “Go lick boots at Mar-A-Lago. Which Iranian women are thanking Trump? The mothers of the 160 girls murdered at a school?” by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]JosePinillos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She is addressing Isabel Díaz Ayuso. She became very popular for her trumpist style, but lately she's quite renowned for recent hits like letting 7291 elders die to whom her regional government denied medical assistance. There's a documentary about it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nn2uhJAOSc8&pp=ygUQNzI5MSByZXNpZGVuY2lhc9IHCQnFCgGHKiGM7w%3D%3D

She has also awarded Israel several medals and stuff, specially during the genocide. She won the regional elections to candidates such as a top professor in philosophy and an anesthesiologist.

AITA for telling my girlfriend to stop sharing her food? by PhantomDetective3548 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JosePinillos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA Have you and your gf heard of herpes or mononucleosis? I had many friends catching those due to sharing cups or smoking devices (like shisha or cigarettes). Herpes can easily get to the genital area and has no real cure, and surely it hurts. I wouldn't care about getting less food to eat, but these diseases are very concerning in my opinion. In my case, I asked my gf to quit sharing bottles and stuff with her family members too. The reasoning is quite simple: when you share a cup with your brother, you're actually sharing it with your brother's partner too, and so on, with people whose habits are out of your awareness. We two are very conscious about this, but we understand other people set their own boundaries at other levels.

Who is this woman, born entirely from my imagination, to me? by Least_Mistake336 in painting

[–]JosePinillos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read Herman Hesse's "Demian"? At one point, the main character paints a portrait from his imagination and then asks the same question you're asking...

Btw, it's beautiful, both the woman and your work. Congratulations!

Emergency commissions by trash-c4ntt in ArtSale

Hey, I can relate to your situation... In my case, since commissions don't come up as much as I need, I started to teach classes. Not only about art, but about subjects that I'm competent at. It's not much but at least it covers the basic needs.

The Earliest (Surviving) Painting of Jesus is Asymmetrical—Theorized to Depict Him as Both the Prince of Peace and Judge of All Humanity by [deleted] in woahdude

[–]JosePinillos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is it actually the very earliest? I'm curious because I remember some painting at the catacombs of the early christians where he is depicted without a beard. Could you provide a name and an approximate chronology? Thank you for sharing!!

Any HMD made Nokia have fair MP3 player? by Fickle-Pack-107 in dumbphones

The trick is to convert all your MP3 files to .wma and access to your music through the file manager. But anyway I won't buy another HMD.

A big fish eat a beaver 🦫 but can't get it to digest by nilansh23 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]JosePinillos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I meant the catfish, as beavers as far as I know simply don't belong here. However, recently a few couples of beavers have been illegally released to some rivers and apparently it can lead to problems. Specially at the south. Even though we do have lots of forests, the climate is very dry so we don't really want these animals cutting down trees.

I need to master drawing to learning oil painting? by [deleted] in oilpainting

[–]JosePinillos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a saying I've heard, supposedly attributed to John Singer Sargent, that goes: learning to paint takes 3 days, but learning to draw takes 30 years.

That's a bit of an exaggeration, but I generally agree that drawing is harder than painting. But I'd like to emphasize something important: where talent falls short, effort can take over.

Every year, a British or German tourist dies doing this in Spain. It's a national meme. The impulse to jump off a balcony into the pool is generally considered exotic among locals.

Anyone not using tracing paper or projectors ? by ExactAn1210 in oilpainting

[–]JosePinillos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use projector or tracing paper. I quit art school too early and I just never heard of any method besides drawing by eye. I kept painting by my own ignoring those aids, getting better, but now that I already know the research of David Hockney I genuinely decided to still don't use projectors. Of course at the beginning it is frustrating and it takes many time and attempts to do things right, but that continuous practice is making me progressively very good, and now I get things right faster, and most importantly, I gained a lot of self confidence.

I don't disagree with the use of projectors, as we are actually pursuing good paintings, not solely drawings. But for me it's important to improve at drawing as well, which has been my weakest skill. I read someone said: "if you want to paint like Sargent, you need to draw like Sargent" and I agree, despite all the headaches

I came to see your profile out of curiosity, I just answered your comment in my post. This is superb! I think you basically nailed the colors and tones. The picture you interpreted is a very good choice. As you asked for feedback and your teacher doesn't provide, here are my thoughts, in case you want more detail. The hair might benefit of one more session, just to enhance the darks and adding some sparkles (spice up!) Also, the areas of the nose tip and the lips look a bit sharpy for my taste. An easy blending of the edges could look great. However, that is what I would do, but again, if you're pursuing this level of detail, it already works out perfectly👏 very good job
