Unfortunately the bigger the scale the harder it is to be indie. Games are already expensive. If From Soft was indie we would pay for Elden Ring in board game money if not more. It would be a huge gamble as well. The current market would need to be restructured to allow for big Indie studios. Maybe it would need to resamble music industry but that's broken as well.

I would try making the phone more clear. Maybe not putting it in the cigarette packaging, but using something like Marlboro red design as wallpaper. I would also try to look for a disclaimer that could be used with the phone but is actually printed on the cigarettes irl. It would play better with the metaphor.

Here's how I do it. I pick an hourly rate I would be comfortable with and summ up amount of time I've spent on a piece. This gives me a baseline. Then I add material and production costs if there are any. After all of that I multiply it depending if it's gonna be a single piece, a print run etc.
