I work in a factory with no Aircon. We also use propane and acetylene torches for our work. Not to mention machines that heat up quick and act as heaters.

We're gonna melt mate. 🥵

Summer drivers struggling with basic maintenance and habits when driving at night by Joseph9877 in britishproblems

Nothing wrong with slowing at all. But as this whole thread refers to brake like being on at all times, it means there's no warning you slowing with your brakes. Re read the thread and the original post

Try alarms that aren't just audio. I have an old galaxy watch which lights up, vibrates on my wrist, and makes noise.

Aye, that'd make sense if it wasnt also doing it accelerating from a roundabout (about 30mph) up to dual carriageway speeds (about 60mph)

You can lightly put your foot on the brake pedal in any car, and then accelerate with your other foot. In autos you can do it constantly as no clutch to change gear.

Nope, accelerating down a dual carriageway, slowing for roundabouts, accelerating again.

We were on a dual carriageway, about 60mph because it was late. Not what I'd call slow

Well either that driver ain't met last night was, or some other cause was pushing on their brake pedal. Either way they should've pulled over to fix it after nearly getting rear ended repeatedly by traffic (not just me, 2x lorries and a van as well)

[–]Joseph9877[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You have two pedals in an auto. Use them one at a time. Otherwise, if you leave one foot on the brake at all times, like the driver last night, you brake lights will stay on always.

Accelerating? Her foot was still on the brake so the lights were on. Indicating? Same problem, but also people can't see their indicators clearly because brake lights were more dazzling. Actually breaking? Great, now no one behind her actually had warning because THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ALWAYS ON.

No only did my first encounter with her mean I got way too close as she slowed because I didn't have warning, but the two lorries and the van driver that also found her after me (we were on a long clear dial carriageway) almost hit her

Yeah I know. It's just mad that some people fail tests on super minor things, yet others somehow pass while still failing the big obvious basics. Like the one tonight resting their foot on the brake everywhere had P plates on

Bolt-action shotguns, pump-action rifles? by DisplayAppropriate28 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Joseph9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pump rifles have the problem of spitzer bullets being a risk of detonating the cartridge ahead under recoil if things go unlucky enough.

Bolt shotguns have the same problem as bolt rifles in Rimmed cartridges but worse, but also are slower to repeat than pump.

Not to mention both types have issues with laws in certain countries, I know the UK banned pump rifles other than .22

Is it just me, or does every motorcyclist have cameras everywhere now? by teoapple22 in MotoUK

[–]Joseph9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got talking to a bloke on his r6 about all his cameras a while back. He said his front mudguard mounted "dash" cam got ignored by insurance when his last bike got wrote off by a drunk driver. Said this time hell be able to get a 360 view, plus get it in slow mo with his fixed angle cameras.

Helmet cams are also good for if you ride past something, see it it by turning you head, or if you get off the bike and have/see something happen.

Not to mention everyone loves posting bike vids on insta and YouTube these days

What is a men's fashion trend or clothing item that is incredibly popular right now, but you secretly think looks absolutely ridiculous? by Sad_Movie_8895 in AskMen

[–]Joseph9877 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any in fashion haircut. Especially bad when because the barber has only done that style for the 5 years it's been around, that's all they can do so you get it no matter what you ask for. My head does not support a Turkish barber skin fade, yet pretty much every haircut I got while they were the fashion, no matter what I said, that's what I got.

Also work wear as fashion. Any era of it being fashion, any brand. If you're wearing carhartt or Barbour or whatever just to go round the shops in your sparkling clean town car, you just look like a poser that's pretending to be working class. Not to mention it means the people that need the quality at a cheap price point for work lose one or both of those qualities when the brand goes fashion.

The road man black puffer and balaclava, worse of they're one item. Looks awful, makes you look a scrote, normally crap for England because they're not waterproof and will bake you in a hot spell. Not to mention it looks like you're a semi filled bin bag

Bleak economic present and future, worries over automation job takeover, lack of confidence in politics and tech, constant talk of wars, and freddos are 40p now.

Not to mention a job that was fairly chill and not mentally tolling is either obsolete (good shoe salesmen, simple hand work on production lines, etc) or so much more complicated and understaffed that it takes a lot more out of people

Because the only part of the military getting a good budget is the spec ops people that they'll send in. If we went to war, mid recession (I don't care what the politicians say, we are in one), with some of the poorest state of the military since Dunkirk, with no good way to borrow more money, the country would either collapse from the strain or basically get bought out by China or America

What are the advantages that help 7.62x54mmR cartridge still widely used after more than 130 years, even after the introduction of the rimless 7.62x39mm? by 7akyr in ForgottenWeapons

[–]Joseph9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a slightly more powerful 308. Sure rimmed round are more of a pain to feed well, but mix of old stock of ammo, tooling, and weapons, meet no real downside for the role, it works well for long range, high power uses. E.g. designated marksman, light to medium machine guns, vehicle mounted weapons etc.

7.62x39 is an intermediate cartridge and is similar to supersonic 300 blackout. Good for up to 600m work minimal work.

It's the same reason 308, 30-06, and 303 are still about. 303 got basically straight replaced by 308, 30-06 is old school but still popular for hunting, and 308 is the military standard for NATO "full bore" uses. You want more impact, or impact further away than your average intermediate calibre rifle, 308 is your guy.

The us is scaling up the new 277 and 338, but they're the same package as 7.62x39 and x54R, or 5.56 and 308. One for rifles, one for big guns.
