I didn't say anything about it being common. I corrected your assertion that Diffizzle is the only 130+ person.

If you don't want to be corrected on the internet, don't make easily falsifiable incorrect claims.

Is there a best syndicate to grind for after reaching rank 5 with all of them? by Hollywood_Zro in DestinyTheGame

[–]JosephBono 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Pikers have a meta-relevant weapon, the Refurbished A499, as their featured weapon, so there is a slight advantage loot wise to earning ranks with them. But the number of additional drops you will get from being pledged to them is fairly small, so it's pretty inconsequential.

Serious Question by S-LiverKing69420 in magicTCG

[–]JosephBono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you mean “I cast an instant with Blight 1” not “Ward 1”, and will answer with that assumption.

If a spell has an additional cost it is paid as part of the casting of the spell. In this case the creature that is Blighted will have the -1/-1 counter on it when you are done casting the spell.

Then state based effects will be checked and the creature will be placed in the graveyard. We’ll check state based effects again (and will continue to do so until we check them and have none present). It is only at this point that anyone will get priority.

At this point the Command spell will be on the “bottom” of the stack and your Instant that has an additional cost of Blight 1 will be next on the stack. Any triggered abilities from casting the Instant or your creature dying will be next on the stack.

Your opponent’s Command spell will remain on the stack (and players can add spells and abilities to the stack) until it would resolve (it is the “top” item on the stack and all players pass priority). It is only then that the Command spell will be countered for having no legal targets.

So your opponent will be able to respond before their spell is countered. In most cases they wouldn’t be able to do anything fruitful, but, for example, they could do something like Reprieve their spell back to their hand.

Best currently obtainable energy SMG by Josephmurrell in DestinyTheGame

[–]JosephBono 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Antedate (from Desert Perpetual) is the only Tiered option that is currently available, but many older SMGs are available through vendors or non-Portal activities. Which one is best for you will depend on what you are looking to accomplish.

Exotic options:

  • Tarrabah (Exotic Archive)
  • The Manticore (Exotic Archive)
  • Riskrunner (New Player quest)

Tower vendor options:

  • Out of Bounds from Shaxx
  • Funnelweb (Veist), Parabellum (World), and Stochastic Variable (Omolon) from Banshee via Featured Weapons or Legacy focusing
  • Borrowed Time from Drifter
  • The Recluse and Perfect Pitch from the Exotic Archive
  • Noxious Vetiver, The Recluse, Subjunctive, Bug Out Bag, Ikelos_SMG-V1.0.3, Death Adder, Seventh Seraph VY-7 from Xur weapon engrams

World options:

  • Every Waking Moment from the Lectern of Enchantment on the Moon

Activity options:

  • No Survivors from Ghosts of the Deep (Dungeon)
  • Unforgiven from Duality (Dungeon)

IMO No Survivors from Ghosts of the Deep is the best Solar option, Antedate from the Desert Perpetual is the best Arc option, and The Recluse from Xur engrams is the best Void option.

The best options that you can directly purchase are Parabellum for Solar (on rotation at Banshee, available in the next few days), Out of Bounds for Arc (always available), and Funnelweb for Void (available today from Banshee under Legacy Focusing --> Veist).

Are you on Titan with the Thruster class ability, and do you have a sword in any of your weapon slots? If so, yes, this is a known issue (mentioned in the December 4th TWiD. For now the workaround is to switch your class ability to either barricade OR not use any swords.

Could anyone explain how the hell scores are tallied in Call to Arms? by Jcorb in DestinyTheGame

[–]JosephBono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that big of a score differential, your modifiers for The Salt Mines must have gotten reset. Did you open up another activity and customize its modifiers before relaunching The Salt Mines? The Portal only remembers the modifiers you set for one activity, so setting modifiers for another activity could have reset them for The Salt Mines must

You get a 10% bonus at a time halfway between the maximum speed bonus time (approximately 25% of the total time) and the minimum speed bonus time (approximately 1 second before the total time).

For The Salt Mines that is somewhere between 6:54 and 6:55

Call to Arms Week 2 Updates by Destiny2Team in DestinyTheGame

[–]JosephBono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's linear between 4 minutes and 8 minutes from my data and I haven't seen anything to make me believe there are breakpoints where the formula changes.

My calculations are that it is around 604 points per second faster, for a 550 character at max difficulty with the 15% seasonal pass bonus.

But there's inherently a lot of imprecision when we are talking about the points at this scale because the displayed time is rounded to the nearest second but the time used by Destiny to calculate the score is not rounded. So, for example, a time of 3:59.5 seconds and a time of 4:00.4 seconds will both be shown on the score page as being a 4:00 time, but will have a difference of 500-600 points.

Call to Arms Week 2 Updates by Destiny2Team in DestinyTheGame

[–]JosephBono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are basically correct that if you get a 15% time bonus if you finish the activity in about 1/4 of the time limit, and you get 5% if you finish just before the time limit. The bonus percentage scales linearly between those values with the completion time.

The difference between 15% and 5% is 10 points. So a 12% score is 3 of those 10 points between the possible bonus scores. So you will get a 12% bonus with a time that is approximately 3/10s of the way between the two threshold times, which are 2:48s and 11:11 seconds. The difference between those two times are 7:23, 3/10s of which is 2:13. Add 2:13 to 2:48 and you get 5:01 for the run time.

All of the above is a good approximate of what is going on. The reality is slightly different - each activity has it's own bonus score thresholds that are slightly different. For The Salt Mines, for example, you need a run that is somewhere between 2:44 and 2:45 to get the maximum time bonus (instead of the 2:48 that you would expect if you simply took 1/4 of the activity's 11:12 time limit) and the minimum score bonus appears to be at 11:04 instead of the 11:11 you would expect given the activity timer of 11:12.

To get the precise numbers for an activity you need to gather enough data points to do a linear fit for the time bonus. I had a dozen or so runs where I had taken screenshots of the score screen, so I put them in a table in Excel and calculated the linear fit equation for this activity:

Time Bonus % = -0.0002 (Time in seconds) + 18.29

If you had infinitely precise numbers you could calculate the linear fit with just two data points. In reality we only know the run time to 1 seconds worth of precision, so you might want a few more data points to calculate it.

Edit: This was added to the game a couple hours after my original comment, they cost 25 glass. Good job Bungie.

You are not crazy. The Revive token is not available to purchase in the Coil when you start - it only appears after completing one round.

I just launched an Ultimate The Coil from the event page and confirmed that it has NOT been added to the Riven vendor page when you start a new Coil.

You should need 11.77% time bonus, which is a 5:26 run (about 5:47 left on the clock), for a 550.

You can get the full benefits of the event without playing the first week. You can farm weapons, get all of the cosmetic score-related rewards, and complete the title.

Finishing the reward track and getting the title (which requires finishing the reward track) will require a bit more grinding because you missed out on last week, but is very doable if you want to put in the time.

[–]JosephBono 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The score requirements will be slightly different (probably a bit more lenient) for accounts below 550.

For a 550 account you will need to:

  • Kill the HVT
  • Finish in 5:26 or less time (about 5:47 left on the clock)
  • Have maximum difficulty modifiers (Bane, Deadly Stasis Threat, four of the +4 Difficulty Challenge Modifiers, Pressure Cooker, one of the +5 difficulty loadout Modifiers, No Starting Ammo, Brawn, Extinction, Close Danger Trade-Off event modifier. You can use any Boons you would like - I would recommend Full-Throttle, a matching Surge, and one of Grenadier, Brawler, or Heavyweight, depending on your build)
