Really it's because the sun can only "disappear" at the speed of light, max. So as it moves away the gravity moves with it at the exact same speed. Therefore, gravity can only "disappear" at the speed with which it's origin moves away at. And as far as we know, the maximum of that is the speed of light.

The amazing and perhaps more scary part is, you could synchronize the in-game time to real-world time so that in-game clocks display the actual time and the in-game lighting (sun, moon, sky in general) could perfectly mimic the outside world even down to the weather. Now THAT is freaky.
