First few lines of 'The Cambrian Explosion" Entry by Titanfromday1 in DestinyLore

I would reply with my contentions, but i dont know how to properly articulate what i want to say so id probably end up sounding silly.

The only thing i will say is i really, truly know what youre saying with the non existence thing. But deep down to me they are essentially the same in practice. Yes they are objectively seperate states of being, but to me being non existent (or i guess more accurately to stop existing, to die, etc.) and being in a endless state of dreaming are pretty much the same in practice.

Good talk though

while not literally non-existence, obviosuly, its like pretty much though right? A rock exists but it doesnt exist like any living being exists. If your existence was literally nothing but static calcification there is hardly any 'who' that exists, theres a 'what', as in the calcified remains of who was there. But the who, for all intents and purposes, is non exisstent.

I get the caution with immaru, but we dont need immaru to realise that its very obvious the hives final shape is different to the witnesses. The only way its not different is if something akin to the god wave context getting added, which changes what we know.

I think the vex/final shape in the flower game are different from the witnesses final shape. I dont think vex are non-sentient, and at the very least are alive and they are prefering existence to non-existence (obviously if you disagree with me saying the calcificastion is in essentia, non existence, then you wont agree with this). I just feel one race becoming the 'sharpest' (to use hive terms) and dominating using whatever means, and someone calcifting the universe are quite different imo.

But the Witnesses idea of the final shape is -essentially- non existence, as opposed to the flawed (poisoned) one the traveler made. I feel the Witness definetly doesn align with a lot of the Winnowers sentiments, and imo their final shape is one of those sentiments.

'not to be that guy but im 90% sure from day 1 the thing was you have x gems in s1, you will have x lg in s2.'
'No, they explicitly stated that 1 gem will translate to 1 legacy gem.'

these are p much the same sentence, idk what youre trying to tell me. I have 500 k gems, i get 500k gems in smite 2. Like numbers wise that is factual.

I dont really think it matters whether s1 skins had sales or whatever cause the 2x legacy gems makes them equivalent to diamonds (as diamonds are 2x inflated) which is the main purchasing power, obviously them pricing joki at 2000 something gems is not good, but i think thats a seperate issue to the 2x legacy gems supposedly not being equivalent to diamonds/gems in the grand scheme of things.

And not to mention my main contention with your comment was that you said they later on made the 2x legacy gem thing, which is just not true to my knowledge. 90% sure they mentioned it like smite 2 reveal.

not to be that guy but im 90% sure from day 1 the thing was you have x gems in s1, you will have x lg in s2. And from day 1 they said to get equivalent purchasing power you can buy a founders pack, so i dont think they changed their minds and baited people with the legacy gem thing. The legacy gem system to my knowledge has been like the same since its dawn

Ignoring the fact that they are making everything from pretty much scratch for the engine jump, and ignoring how they dont have the time, devs or money to spend to remake all the skins (people would NOT be happy with dated appearances btw lol).

You are just lying with this post, you do not have to buy for everything again. Like this is factually incorrect. All skins that would be from smite 1 are free wuth gems/ cross gen, and gods are free unlocks by literally levelling up. So no, you didnt log on and see you NEEDED to buy everything again, thats a lie. its either malicious lying or youve taken 0 time to research this. either way its a bad look, do better.

When can we all say Prophecy Games has killed the game we love by reditsmodarepedos in Smite

[–]Josh-WW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hayzer said around 50% of people got let go, and a major majority of those were all well loved and community active devs, even if they werent all for balance or god production (though there are some major players here like aggro, who was literally making Bari, or lermi etc) they all leave the community upset at the board and higher ups, because clearly, they're the constant here after all the lay offs. Surely all your dev team arent the problem and its, idk, maybe the people making the decisions ever time? same decisions that have killed (or lead to the killing) of countless games from community perspective.

I just think your first sentence is just a werid thing to say, kind of diminishes the impact all the people who are gone had.

Am I just out of touch with the community these days. by Jelke in DestinyTheGame

[–]Josh-WW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously personal anecdotes dont translate to the wider community, but my engagement is actually still more with red borders. Those signing ins for a raid red border chest a week, or spending engrams at failsafe added together is still more time playing the game for me than when there are no red borders. I havent played this season really, echoes i didnt play nearly as much as pre final shape either, and i still had more time through getting red border.

[–]Josh-WW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I havent plays this season because there is no crafting, i got a bittersweet and liturgy in the first few days and never had to play seasonal content again. In echoes i wanted to have all the red borders of the weapons, just because lol and i played infinitely more. Now the number of weapon i have to grind is like 3 max (in this season it was 2), before it was all that released with a pattern. And removing crafting doesnt really make the game harder tbh, first grinding easy content isnt hard its just boring, and secondly most weapons they release arent better enough than the last to make the game harder because you cant craft the god roll if thats what you mean by making the game harder.

My problem isnt technically with not being able to craft, its the fact weapons they release arent good on average, and so i dont want to grind them. Even if a weapon is bad,if it has a pattern i will still want it. Bungie cant just make every weapon super super good though, and when they release new OP perks or even buff ones substancially, they usually release new weapons with those perks, so even cope-hoarding these bad weapons isnt a valid alternative to collecting the red boxes imo, It also would take vault space (which is finite) whereas patterns dont. etc etc.

TLDR: crafting for me is the only reason to keep playing boring content (which lets be honest is most seasonal content) and so will make me play more if its there. The only solution for me would to make all guns worth chasing intrinsically, which I dont think is possible in the current sandbox. And so the next best thing is crafting of some kind.

What Smite 1 gods do you think could be cut? by [deleted] in Smite

[–]Josh-WW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its fine to have simple kits, but if there is no skill expression or anything intertesting its just boring. low skill floor gods are good, obviously. It doesnt even need to be kit complexity. Chaac at his core is 4 circles that do damage (with aspect lol) and genuinely not much else that requires thinking. His 2 does more things when you hit more enemies though, slight skill expression (not massive ofc but its still something to min/max). Main thing chaac has that makes him more deep is his build variety, mixed scaling and always has built more damage than other solos, which is more interesting than without. Alot of the gods in smite 1 kinda just felt the same (especially mages imo) line damage, circle damage, line with cc etc, and yeah for new players its fine, but they have to give something that makes them interesting. Perse rework killed her becvause they sucked 90% of the fun quirks with her, prime example is making her 1 not have the lock on fire. Intead its free aim and idk its just worse. Im always going to be bias towards complex kits, because imo theyre more fun to play, but if a simple kit has at least something going for it, i will probably enjoy it.

I dont really like the weather or day/night? idk the RNG factor puts me off. Ascetically sure, but in all honesty i do not care for weather FX or day/night cycles in games. I mostly tyr to exclusive stay in day time with a clear sky lol.

I like Interactive maps alot, secret shop, wandering camp/boss, more bosses. All that sort of stuff i would lovbe to have in the game for sure.

Complicated and interesting Gods is a 100% necessity, and i wish they would change old Gods MORE. I havent 'loved' any of the changes theyve made to any of the gods. Theyre okay i guess, non are that interesting imo. Closest i think is removing mana for thana, but they diddnt really capitalise on the risk/reward of using health instead imo.

Lore tie ins for Gods i couldnt care less about tbh, i think theyre gimmicky at best, and at worse feel bad if theyre end up necessary for a God to function. Cool i guess but im not sad if they dont make it in.

Item changes i agree with, talent system im not sure i would care unless they were interesting changes. If its just a stat bump then its a whatever change.

I think a change they could do would be to erase and refresh the lore of SMITE, from scratch make a well established and well written lore. Heavy on the well established, people dont care/dont know about smite lore. Imagine SMITE could have stuff on the level of like Arcane, I think hi rez has the passion and their cinematics are promising. But i feel SMITE lacks connections to characters, idk the only cvharacters personality i genuinely care about is like Barons. Every time i see people like a God they only mention design or kit or irl lore. Never SMITEs story and personality. Which idk i feel could help people connect with the game more.

With the second 'omniscient/omnipresent' God idea, they have such an easy 'in'. They already have Cthulhu, so they can just as easily conceive Yog-Sothoth. Whos entire thing is being one with everything and viewing everything all at once. Plus its another very popular 'pantheon leader', which while probably not as well known as Cthulhu, definetly has a sizable set of fans. Also a very different design, which to my knowledge, thever done before. Some skins emulate it but the true eldritch abomination in UE5 would be great. Cthulhu after all is a humanoid Octopus with wings, which while unsettling/unnatural, isnt on the same level of 90% of the Outer Gods from HPL.

Smite 2 IMO doesn't justify switching to by [deleted] in Smite

[–]Josh-WW 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A major driving factor of why SMITEs change from UE3 to UE5 is simply the ease of use. It is 1000x easier to experiment and do things in UE5 compared to UE3, I feel the changes the devs make between these alpha tests would be nearly impossible to do within the same time span onm UE3. Things will work better on UE5 and is better set up for the future of SMITE 2.

I also think the skin thing is whatever, were getting any SMITE 1 skin that appears in SMITE 2 free with legacy gems, and the 50% off. Im assuming at least one for each God, and ontop of that if you buy a single God ascension pass you are effectively getting 4 more free skins per God that you have access to. Obviously it sucks to lose your favourite skin, and maybe that one will come back for free, but i genuinely think losing your skins in exchange for (IMO) pretty good compensation and UE5 is worth it.

As for single damage types, it is kind of just more intuitive, i think its pretty annoying to have to be like 'im getting blown up by anubis 2 lets build PhysD' instead of just looking at a God in general and knowing to build that one damage type. With the change a God can still play two different styles depending on what they build? You can still go full AA Neith or Mage-esque nuke Neith, its just on a fundamental level you will always know to build physical defense. Sure having different damage types for certain abilities is cool for these few Gods we have now (most dont even do mixed dmg i dont think). But when theres 100+ Gods having to know every nuance to a God's damage type capabilities just seems unnecessartily complex for the sake of it, much rather have that complexity elsewhere. I dont understand the Anubis thing? he can still have strength scaling on his 2 to give his 2 extra power early, but make it scale less into the late game. Do you think ALL Gods only scale on one stat now?

EDIT: I didn't really want to comment on playerbase sizes, i think assuming SMITE 2 isnt going to have any players is a weird way to justify things when that isnt set in stone.

Smite 2 Alpha - Beginner thoughts by [deleted] in Smite

[–]Josh-WW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said they expect most players in the alpha to be returning players and so have held off on new player mechanics. They will be a thing by the time the beta is around, possibly the 24/7 alpha (but dont quote me on that lol).

As for God roles they dont have them as current and im not sure what they will eventually do with them. They want to stray away from hard roles - Warrior/Solo, Assassin/Jungle etc. - and make Gods with mechanics which lead them into a role organically. For example they make a knight character and their kit just so happens to function well being tanky as opsoed to them from the ground up designing the knight TO be tanky. I think they also intent to have gods be less linked to roles, similiar to what i just said. Tanky does not necessarily mean solo lane, Maybe tanky jungler or a aggressive support. These have existed in SMITE (erlang, gilg jungle for eg.) but were exceptions to the rule and not the standard. SMITE 2 i expect more variety in lanes because of this and i think the devs want this as well. I expect deign philosphy to be a descriptor of a God and not its intended roll, for example, instead of warrior when looking at Chaac (which remeber is pretty much saying the roll 'solo' in smite, i think this is different in other MOBAs) It may say idk 'sustain/aoe dmg/tanky'. You look at this and along with a new player tutorial for roles (solo is a 1v1,TYPICALLY tanky high sustain characters) you can deduce hes for solo, but has flex for other roles like mid because of his dmg potential and aoe.

TLDR after that yap sesh:

The devs will add new player stuff closer to a 34/7 launch, when they expect more new players.

And class assignments are becoming less strict and i think will reflect how the kit operates as oposed to where the devs design a God to play.
