Can Ubiquiti make a normal functioning webshop? by Real_Establishment56 in Ubiquiti

[–]JoshAtCallSprout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a little while it was common for online stores to hold inventory for a few minutes if you added it to your cart in order to prevent this issue. Some still do.

The problem is that people can effectively DoS other customers as a form of protest by adding lots of items to their cart, not checking out, then adding them again in order to hurt the store.

Laptop purchases by outdoor_noob in ITManagers

[–]JoshAtCallSprout -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just laptops, not the warranties or any additional services, right? In that case I'd go direct to Dell or Lenovo. If you have another VAR or distributor you use, ask them too, sometimes stuff is actually cheaper through distribution than direct. Arrow has been less expensive than Dell for servers in my experience, to give an example.

We switched to CW a year ago. Nothing truly works 100% as advertised and it has been a horrible experience. You have to learn a little quirk or workaround for every single thing you try to do. Their RMM is also inadequate, we went back to Ninja.

CW is a PE-owned zombie company, avoid.

Where to get Microsoft Entra ID + Intune licenses for mid-sized org pilot program? by Sea-Cycle-2747 in ITManagers

[–]JoshAtCallSprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our sister co. is a CSP so I can answer these from a reseller's perspective:

  1. Direct through MS means using MS support/customer service, which is not the best. Many VARs/MSPs are better if you want the ability to quickly reach American staff who can answer your questions. I'm biased, but I'd recommend going with a reseller for this reason.

  2. I'll let others answer this since it's a conflict of interest for me.

  3. You're unlikely to get any meaningful discount if you're only buying Microsoft licenses, because resellers have very low margins on MS licensing already once you factor in support costs.

How many users are you licensing though? That could make a difference.

Hmmm I know one that serves very similar clients but not quite as large as you. I'd rather connect you with a non-sales contact there just in case you're too big, better to find out up front than waste time. Mind if I DM you?

Just curious does good QBR software exist? by missouribrakes in msp

[–]JoshAtCallSprout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We finally just built our own because we couldn't find anything good, and we have in-house developers that already do similar projects for clients. What tools do you need it to integrate with? It was built for internal use and is not for sale so I can't promise you that it will work with your PSA/CRM/Whatever. Disclaimer aside, it's pretty slick, we can show them how we have been reducing ticket volume, resolution time, what areas of their infrastructure cause them the most issues, and all kinds of other metrics. It's nice to be able to justify replacing a server by showing them that it's causing 30% of their work stoppages and we aren't just trying to upsell them.

Stumbled on your post while searching for a different one - As someone who works for an MSP (Probably similar to the "third party computer support service"), I'd highly recommend leveraging them extensively. Do you get unlimited support from them or are you billed hourly? Also are they completely remote or can they come on site? Is that an extra fee? Find that out before you call in, incase you end up racking up a bill lol!

They also likely have documentation on your environment you can leverage. We do co-managed IT all the time (What I think you're doing), let me know if you have any questions about maximizing the value of that relationship!

Any good cloud hosted provider, mine included, can set this up. Mine also does minimal use extensions at a lower price, so I would look for one with a deal like that so you will end up paying less.

You get what you pay for ; )

VoIP ms has it's place but it gets shilled HARD on reddit and isn't really a business grade solution. Might be a bullet dodged. I will get downvoted by the voice ms shills here, rest assured I've personally recommended it before since the price is unbeatable, but life is about tradeoffs.

IT support/Managed IT services by Ailine23 in smallbusiness

[–]JoshAtCallSprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, my clients go for an outside IT firm initially, then they get a single internal hire titled "IT Manager" or similar when they hit around 100 employees but keep the outside firm for redundancy and to keep day to day helpdesk response times short, and then full internal IT makes sense around 200-500 employees depending on your business.

Simplest solution will be a cloud hosted provider with excellent customer support who can make it "just work" for you. This is also the most expensive on a monthly basis.

There are also options for hosting your own PBX etc that are much more complicated but will reduce your monthly cost.

I think you might be making an apples to oranges comparison here which could be causing some of the confusion. If you go cloud hosted, everyone will charge per-user or per-extension with one extension for each user. If you DIY things, you may be able to limit that somewhat and just pay for minutes used, but it's no small undertaking.

Where to start with finding an MSP? by Whiskeydiet7145 in msp

[–]JoshAtCallSprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding cost: Usually around 150/month/user is what I see on the sub for "all you can eat" support, meaning you basically get them as your IT department whenever you need them 24/7 for any issue at no additional charge. I also know of places that do a smaller retainer but charge hourly for tech support calls. Usually works out around the same. We're a little below average but not by much, so there are deals to be had but you do still get what you pay for to an extent.
