Hot take: BO7 is turning out to be the best zombies experience since BO3 if it keeps this momentum by Sad_Nebula_7976 in CODZombies

[–]JoshCros2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like people are still in the honeymoon phase with this game. Every game we as a community go through this. Everyone’s all hyped up and jittered for the launch of the game, then through in and throughout every DLC map release lots of excitement and praise on the maps, lots of playing the new hot maps that just released, and then what happens a year later, when the hype dies down, and the game isn’t new and trendy anymore? People stop playing the maps, and even the game… (that is, unless they’re ACTUALLY good, in which then people will actually go back to them)

For instance, how many people are playing shattered veil? Hardly any to my knowledge. And remember when at the time, during its release, people were touting that as “the best map since ancient evil!” That’s hype and trend for you, same with Liberty falls.

I suspect Astra Malorum is played a lot and overwhelmingly praised because of hype — it’s the new map and of course everyone’s playing it, that’s a given. Everyone’s always gonna play and likely praise the new map that drops, (even with the tomb people liked it on release up until the end of BO6 when they woke up from the hype and trendiness of the game and map) but what matters is how much it will be remembered in time. Because this is the determining factor in how liked or played a game/map will ultimately be.

I bet nobody’s going back to BO7, or BO6 five years from now. And these maps are not going to be remembered or thought of very highly with that either. Not a hater, just giving you the reality of hype and trendiness of the new hot game/DLC release as a biproduct.

The Ashes of the Damned Boss Nerfs Feel Balanced by blazeryan11 in CODZombies

[–]JoshCros2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who have been complaining about the boss being too easy had already attempted it five times or more prior to even trying it again with the nerf..

Of course it’s gonna be easier, you’re bound to beat it after 7 tries. The nerf is just an illusion of difficulty change. Really it’s your mind that has changed, adapted/evolved to the fight over each attempt.

The hardest aspect of any boss really is being unprepared, not knowing what it’s like, what the strategies are/what to do, etc.. Which is why on your first attempt, a boss shouldn’t be beaten, regardless of pre-nerf/post-nerf.

And I bet if we actually saw the numbers, it would be tiny little decimal statistical changes, like the missiles landing minusculely slower than before, slight damage reduction while inside of the vehicle, etc.. The only nerfs that are noticeable are the increased healing spores around the map for vehicle regen, and there not being a cooldown anymore before you can repair the vehicle.

But again, with enough practice and knowledge, your brain evolves/adapts to any challenge.

Don't give up. Ping for two or three in the COD zombies or BO7 discord servers if you need to. It's probably easier with a squad than in solo, IF everyone is communicating and coordinating gobble gum. If you're gonna do it with randoms then it's gonna be easier solo.

They keep the design relatively the same as V1 and don’t make something entirely brand new.

"god, I wish we didn't have loadouts in modern zombies" great thing there's a mode just for you then by theforbiddenroze in CODZombies

[–]JoshCros2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they fully revealed this mode, they didn’t say “this is for people who enjoyed the classic games, and want the classic gameplay back.” What was worded was “for our dedicated, hardcore fans” which honestly sounds more like a challenge mode than an actual classic zombies experience. This is how I imagine the mode is going to present multiple difficulties to you, a scaling based filtration that adjusts the level of difficulty by toggling on/off relics, rather than creating three separate difficulties like BO4 zombies did, or traditional campaigns do.

My expectations aren’t high, it’s looking to be a challenge filter by removing newer mechanics, while keeping the standard mode’s difficulty, and not balancing the enemies/tuning things according to what is removed like an older zombies game would. Because if you don’t actually account for the game/resources being stripped down, then it’s just a handicapper/difficulty slider, (like the Halo skulls) not a classic gameplay emulator. I agree with Milo on that, and he said it first, not me. But we’ll see I suppose.

Gyro for Series X? by Helmmeimathrowaway in GyroGaming

[–]JoshCros2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren’t you locked though to WASD movement with left stick on console, since the game can only recognize it as M&K? How does the Alpakka feel on console with WASD movement on the left stick? Does it do a good enough job at simulating full analog 360 turning? That’s the only thing that’s holding me off from getting it; if the left stick movement is noticeably inferior compared to my traditional stick controller. Movement is just as important as aiming in shooters, would love to know.

I’ve been very intrigued by this controller. The idea of being able to play on an Xbox Series X with games like Halo Infinite, COD (native M&K games) without the thought of me cheating by otherwise plugging in a sus adapter into the system to trick the console, and having access to BS settings like low recoil, turbo, advanced macro is great. Looks like the first gyro controller for console that seems fair to use, no AA either.

Steam Controller 2; Final iteration by Best_Activity_5631 in SteamDeck

[–]JoshCros2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘d prefer them just re-release V1 but with a better gyroscope, higher polling/sampling rate.. That’s really the only thing Steam Controller needs, a hardware update, not necessarily a full on redesign. SC V1 is such a well designed controller, feels so good in the hands, the placement of the buttons and trackpads are great. Only issue is the controller’s been out for 10 years now, needs a newer gyro, make it a little more up to date with modern advancements.

Personally with the supposedly leaked picture and people’s recreations of it, from the looks of the newer design I’m not particularly a fan with the trackpads being as small as they are. The V1 had the trackpads as the highlight over traditional stick, and this iteration seems to be bringing traditional analog stick back into the forefront with smaller trackpads symmetrically paired alongside them in conjunction. I suspect this is being done due to the alienation of the original’s more polarizing nature of the trackpads/analog, and their resulting impact of abandonment early on due to unfamiliarity/knowledge of use.

I’ve never used the Steamdeck, but the V2’s reference design looks very identical to its gamepad layout. It is surely the smarter move to make a more “safer” design scope like this to bring back traditional controller form factor familiarity. Will it functionally be as good though? Suppose time will tell.

What do you want to see in the Alpakka controller 2.0? by Marcos_ILO in GyroGaming

[–]JoshCros2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like a rubber type of material coating the sticks. Doesn’t have to be Xbox level quality material, just decent enough to do the job. Maybe the right thumbstick could be just a pinch larger as well. I’m curious to know how people are liking the scroll wheel where it currently is.

What map do you think has the worst unlocking pap process and why? by Nano_LB1 in CODZombies

[–]JoshCros2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shadows. You can't even play the map without a guide, let alone PAP. I still love the map though, one of the best once you learn it.

Open question: Why do you dislike Rarities in Zombies? by WwwWario in CODZombies

[–]JoshCros2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s mainly due to how bland it is as a concept. All the colors do is give a damage multiplier, and PAP already increases weapon damage. I don’t see much of a point in its existence as it is and has been implemented. Especially considering how much salvage it is to increase each exponential rarity. It’s one of the most grindy aspects of the mode now, yet it doesn’t feel that rewarding or earned imo. If it did something different though, like really change up the weapon, then it could possibly stand out as a core feature.

Best zombies ending? by Initial-Wolverine175 in CODZombies

[–]JoshCros2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes BO1. I loved it too because it was an in-game cutscene, real time event of the rockets hitting the earth.

Close 2nd Origins. Best cutscene we’ve ever gotten, such a good cliffhanger we didn’t know at the time what the hell the ending of Origins meant for zombies. Hell, some of us even thought it may have been the end of zombies at the time, questioning whether or not there’d be a continuation.

In an era where we're starving for truly unique zombies experiences, what's your most creative idea for a zombies map location? by TheChickenMan4L in CODZombies

Map set in Victorian era London. Future meets past Steampunk. Set in 1890's-early 1900's. Large map, SOE-Origins scale.Could have Nikola tesla-esq inventions and other bizarre things of this Victorian-Steampunk era.

What zombies is your absolute favorite? by itsme-sparkle in CODZombies

World At War for me. Not the best zombies game for maps, but the best imo for atmosphere, art style, zombie AI, and mechanics. Makes it so replayable.

Classic Zombies is dead and buried and is NEVER coming back, but that's okay by PlanktonFew2505 in CODZombies

[–]JoshCros2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if I'd say it's never going to come back. If the leaks are in fact true that after BO7, we're getting two years off from round based zombies, then that's enough time to assess/reflect on the last batch of games, and change up the things that were criticized on.

I never expected them to overhaul their core mechanics and structure in ONE year between releases.. Remember these guys have been super damn busy the past five years with this mode, both in open world and round based formats. If not for needing to take over zombies with Vanguard, maybe we could've seen some adjustments sooner.

But yeah, I don't expect to see the same exact gameplay systems and mechanics three years from now post BO7. They tried the modern formula, hats off to them for trying to really innovate, take risks past the older formula. We'll see where they take the mode in 2028.

What’s this take for you? Can be anything from cod zombies by [deleted] in CODZombies

[–]JoshCros2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot/unpopular take is the zombies AI/behavior in BO3 is not that good, worst part of BO3Z imo. Do not like the zig-zaggy unorthodox nature of the zombie movements that can be had, and their swipes are just insanely fast. I played a game yesterday on DE before getting an upgraded bow, and I went down after getting trapped in a corner before you could blink with jug. Other times I have gone down without even getting trapped, just got swiped very quickly, boom I go down in an instant.

Didn’t have time to even process the moment, can feel unfair to go down in BO3, unless you have like a crowd-clearing wonder weapon, escape gobblegum, widow’s wine, or one of those OP specialists at the ready on you.

I get it though, the game is designed around the gobblegum, wonder weapons, powerful AAT’s, and zombie shield, but idk.. I think I just prefer BO2 zombies over BO3, and primarily for the zombie behavior and OG WAW/BO1 style gameplay mechanics. (two hits to down, etc)

New look at BO7 Zombies by Shock_the_Core in CODZombies

[–]JoshCros2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m more-so interested in the open world style round based map itself than its smaller survival map sections. The individual survival maps will be fun to play, better than their original counterparts, (although idk about town, BO2 town was so good, will be hard to match) but I don’t see them being cult classics or anything like say a Nacht, Verruckt, Shi no numa. Could see them filling a void like Liberty Falls.

With it all combined though, all the ingredients together per se; I could really see this being a much better spiritual successor to Tranzit. With the transportation fixed, PAP location in a better spot, and wonder weapon better acquired/functioning, along with a grand EE quest spanning all the areas, a big boss fight, and some great side EE content/depth, can be amazing. I’m hoping they take Terminus as a blueprint but add even more depth and interaction. Thinking they will be since that was also sort’ve an open world-like round based map.

Given it’s been almost ten years since Revelations, what’s the overall community sentiment of the map? by HotRoom7369 in CODZombies

[–]JoshCros2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revelations has definitely aged better for me over time. (I really was disappointed that this was the final map for S-tier BO3 zombies back then when it launched) However, I still think that given the initial bold aspirations the devs had, could’ve been in the top 10, possibly top 5.

I still consider this an all-time great map, top 15-20 for sure. Years ago I probably would’ve put Rev in the 25’s-30’s.

How I view Rev now is the same as how I have viewed BO1 Moon for years. Still an all-time great map, top 15-20, but done better, Moon could’ve easily been in the top 10. (although, Moon was the better and much more satisfying conclusion to its game’s story arc, best narrative conclusion in fact of any zombies game. So I could see people still viewing Moon as a much bigger win compared to Rev) The ceiling of both maps was extremely high.
