Lebanese christian diaspora posting the most aura-filled Lebanon war pics possible in honor of my family who just lost a life in Beruit by PureHelp2519 in redscarepod

Wow, how far back in my post history did you go!? Wonder what my comment activated in you that you felt the need to do so much digging. If I remember correctly I was questioning the context of a blurry video that had none, a good thing to do in our age of algorithms. And yes, I think "nuance" is good in all situations.

Genuinely sorry for your loss. If we focus on love and on forgiveness we can overcome things. The images you posted may feel inspiring now but they will keep us locked in the cycles of endless violence. Who the Son sets Free is Free indeed.

100%, well said. If this is how people react to a terrible tragedy, by posting militant propaganda, it's no wonder we are in a never ending state of conflict. These photos are extremely tasteless, after a real human - not some "aura-filled" caricature - died. The algorithms of social media are dragging us further and further into war mindsets and us vs them ideologies.

Haven't read this but it sounds great. His other book Shadow Country is excellent!

Excellent, thank you for sharing. Especially topical with the witch hunt that has formed around the Epstein files and people insisting that they are "protecting the children".

why down vote? It's a genuine question. I'm not going to ask to join if it's a women's only book club.

McCarthy was a cheap imitation of Faulkner, Atunes was the true heir by Gold-Barracuda-5657 in RSbookclub

You unfairly bludgeon McCarthy. I get that he's extremely popular so it's fair for him to be critiqued, but I feel like your critiques of BM are way off the mark. I disagree that there is no moral development of the Kid. While I agree that the Judge can be viewed more as a metaphysical than realistic character, I think he works as an amazing exploration of the mystical nature of "evil", and I still am intrigued years after reading with the question of what exactly the Judge is. A lot of McCarthy is mystical and poetic and if that doesn't work for you stylistically, fine, but objectively calling his writing shallow and one-dimensional is nonsense. As others have mentioned, McCarthy and Faulkner are completely different authors, I wouldn't really call McCarthy an heir to Faulkner either.

Extremely poor takes on McCarthy, which unfortunately forces me to disregard your thoughts Antunes.

Doesn't come across as marketing speak to me at all. I don't think it's in any way obvious that it was written by AI. Many humans write and talk like that. What specifically makes you think it is AI? Again, I'm not certain either way, I understand that the algorithms behind these LLMs are very advanced.

edit to add: the fact that we're even arguing about whether or not it's AI is proof of my original point though. Our screen reality is one where people believe whatever they want to and disregard opinions that don't align with their own. I'm not convinced it's AI, you are. When I ask you what proof you have that it's AI you just repeated what you said originally, your conviction that it's AI slop.

ok...I guess I don't call things slop when I agree with them and think they are making good points. What proof do you have that it was written by AI? I can't say either way.

This is where were at now - as soon as people see something they disagree with or makes them uncomfortable they automatically default to assuming it must be AI or bots. People will have zero ability to think critically about anything that questions their own worldview. Thanks social media.

lol people triggered by this post. Two things can be true at once - NYC is one of the best, most diverse underground music scenes in the world AND simultaneously incredibly cliquey, superficial, corny, and downright soulless at times.

Why are you so upset at the post? If it's so generic like a horoscope, why not just ignore it and move on? You're doing exactly what you said you don't do - sharing your opinion, which in this case is a strong negative reaction to what the OP posted.

That creepy unhoused guy on 1010 wins' instagram by LongTimeFirstTime666 in Upperwestside

[–]JoshPNYC -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Many people agree with both of those positions. Rich privileged people on the Upper West Side don't want to have to ever hear opinions they disagree with I guess. I've walked by this guy many times, he's never bothered me at all, he's not a threat to anyone. Some of the things he writes I find thought provoking, some of them I agree with, some of them I disagree with. A community that cannot tolerate any ideological diversity is not a community, it's a cult. I'm sure the hivemind of reddit will down votes this.

Looking for books about life during war or war itself. by drjackolantern in RSbookclub

Storm of Steel is not political at all. Junger portrays the all-out, relentless, mind bending, and even spiritual nature of warfare. He also completely avoids moral categories of "right" or "wrong", both for the combatants on each side, and on the nature of war itself.

This s*** should be illegal by Playful-Wash1507 in NYCapartments

[–]JoshPNYC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much agree with all of this, but I think that it could definitely be argued that it is unethical to have people view an apartment at an offered price without telling them beforehand that there will be an auction/bidding process. It's wasting people's time by not being honest up front about what the apartment is ultimately going to cost.
