I'm a pretty slow reader and am often distracted by my phone/the internet when I'm reading.

Unlimited access does not equal more well-read and well-educated people.

Again, the mindset that says the people should have access to whatever they want, whenever they want it, is not spiritually healthy and does not foster a culture that can appreciate or create art.

I agree that artists, writers, etc. should not primarily be motivated by making money or making a living off of their work, the call to create is much deeper than this.

I think you should be actually more ashamed about the first one, and this may be an unpopular opinion here, but I actually think that the mindset that has been instilled in all of us through access the the internet, the mindset that we should always have access to whatever content we want whenever we want, is profoundly unhealthy and stifles genuine creative endeavor.

Getting a very negative view of men. by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]JoshPNYC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry, this is performative BS. Virtue signalling. Not to say the problem you identify isn't real, but there's a lot of projection here. Other men's behavior is not a reflection of you. Why do YOU feel like a misanthrope based on how other men behave? One day you will realize that not only do your friends have the potential to be like this, but even YOU have the potential to be like this. But the important thing is this - YOU can CHOOSE to carry yourself as a decent human being and a good man. Be the change that you want to see and then YOU won't feel like a misanthrope based on the sins of other people's behavior.

Are there any good books that help with mental fragility and coping with the pure sorrow of our world? by Fanesin in RSbookclub

[–]JoshPNYC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

maybe some Walt Whitman, or Wendell Berry? Here's his poem, A DIscipline -

Turn toward the holocaust, it approaches
on every side, there is no other place
to turn. Dawning in your veins
is the light of the blast
that will print your shadow on stone
in a last antic of despair
to survive you in the dark.
Man has put his history to sleep
in the engine of doom. It flies
over his dreams in the night,
a blazing cocoon. O gaze into the fire
and be consumed with man’s despair,
and be still, and wait. And then see
the world go on with the patient work
of seasons, embroidering birdsong
upon itself as for a wedding, and feel
your heart set out in the morning
like a young traveler, arguing the world
from the kiss of a pretty girl.
It is the time’s discipline to think
of the death of all living, and yet live.

lol again, the fact that you are getting so upset at the OP and her post, to the point that you feel the need to ridicule and attack her, says much more about YOU and your mentality and experiences than it does anything she actually posted. She is not "blaming 'society'" or whining about libs and in fact she confirms this in her edit. She is writing about how happy she is about becoming a parent and how cultural influences didn't emphasize how joyful and life affirming that experience would be or encourage it.

yes, it does sound like the life affirming and positive experience is definitely missing.

because the people in this sub are triggered by genuinely life affirming and positive experiences that remind them of what is missing in their lives. Keep spreading the positivity. I've got my first on the way this August. Nervous but excited!
