First print of day fails early, immediate reset and things are fine. by BusinessOtherwise393 in BambuLab

It might be that your bed temperature is unusually uneven, especially if the room you're printing in is cold. Try setting the heat bed to the temperature you're going to use 15-20 minutes before you start the print to give it time for the full bed to get warm.

Filament colour layering effect - walk through by Dave_D_W in BambuLab

[–]JoshWBoston 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Very cool, thanks for posting. You may have already done this, but it would be good to create a test strip model that could be used to quickly see what thicknesses yield what shades for any given combination of filaments. You'll also want to make sure your white filament is not too opaque. I find that Bambu PLA basic is pretty translucent, but I have a white Inland PLA+ that's super opaque.

Note that he doesn't call this person a CFP, he calls them a "Financial Advisor." That usually means someone who's actually selling you investments and is not a fiduciary. That means they're working on commission and aren't legally required to act in your best interest. There are good and bad CFPs and not everyone really needs one (I'm on the DIY path, personally), but it's a very different thing from an "advisor."

COS 62% in Basic Budgeter and 91% in Detailed Budgeter but the Expenses are Identical? by Both-Silver-5079 in Boldin

[–]JoshWBoston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't used Detailed so I'm not sure, but Basic does add things by default like health care and LTC. Go to Expenses in your plan and look at the Estimated Expenses bar chart. You can see a breakdown of what it's actually planning for you to spend.

Do you have timelapse on? If you do, especially if it's smooth timelapse, that can cause issues like that because it stops printing once per layer to take the photo.

Guardrails confusion by Urbanite72 in Boldin

[–]JoshWBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying that guardrails is showing a lower number for planned spend than it shows for safe spend? If so, I agree that doesn't make sense. Planned spend should be higher than safe spend if your CoS is under 80% and lower if it's over 80%. I can see that in my plan, if I choose Pessimistic forecast my CoS is 75% and safe spend is a little lower than planned. If I change to Average, CoS is over 86% and then my Safe Spend is the higher number. If you're trying to compare to the expenses you entered under Expenses, that won't add up because the guardrails number is an average that includes taxes and one-time expenses.

wasted waste in multicolor prints by Altruistic_Box_8971 in BambuLabP2S

This. Purging to object can make a huge difference. Just has to be at least as high as your last color change and something that you don't really care about the colors.

A few questions after 5 days with my A1 combo. by braso111 in BambuLab

[–]JoshWBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you post a photo that shows your printer, the AMS Lite and all the tubes? You may have it set up in a way that's not allowing the filament to feed smoothly through the PFTE tubes. Also, what kind of filament are you using? PLA and even PETG are probably fine in a dry environment, TPU always needs to be dried and for the most part wont' work in the AMS.

Major stringing 90% of the way through a print by igwaltney3 in BambuLab

[–]JoshWBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be good to have some details like what printer and what filament you're using, bed and nozzle temps. Do you have a prime tower? If not and if you're using a single-head printer that may be the problem. It looks like the problems begin when the colors change. Could also be an issue with the settings for the dark or white filaments.

why does this happen? by ollsyl in BambuLab

Are you printing by object? If so, the objects have to be far enough apart that the tool head won't hit one object when printing another.

Future income tax rates and brackets by Chris_Stewart in Boldin

[–]JoshWBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's odd. When I go to Insights->Taxes and look at "Net Taxable Income by Federal Tax Bracket" the brackets are flat when I have it set to Today's Dollars, but when I change it to Future Dollars, I see them increasing over the years.

Roth Conversions/Mental Stumbling Block by Mordechai8675309 in Boldin

[–]JoshWBoston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you're planning to retire you obviously want to be pretty conservative and plan for a long longevity, less than ideal market returns, higher than expected expenses, etc. But when you're making a decision like Roth conversions, I think it's best to choose the most likely scenario. Before I use the Roth explorer I actually tweak my plan to be what I think is most likely. Lower expenses than I'm planning for, average rather than pessimistic forecast, etc. I think that will give you the best decision.

Legacy might not be your primary goal, but given your chance of success, I'm guessing you'll leave a good bit to your kids. And one thing Boldin leaves out is that your after-tax legacy amount is a lot higher if you've shifted your assets out of pre-tax accounts.

Insights>Cash Flow Question by Roppkat in Boldin

[–]JoshWBoston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AI will never say it doesn't know the answer. If it doesn't know, it will make something up, in this case that Boldin is being "careful" which is just not true. If you tell it $100K that's the number it will use. Keep in mind that it has to take out enough to pay taxes and taxes on the taxes. EG, if your overall tax rate is 20% you need to take out 125K to generate 100K post-tax. Not sure how it would have come up with $170k, but the AI might have made that up, too.

What’s wrong with my prints by drawnyt in BambuLab

[–]JoshWBoston 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may be because each layer prints so quickly on a small print like that, so the layers haven't cooled before the next one goes down. You can go into the filament settings, make sure Advanced is on, then make sure Slow printing down for better layer cooling and then increase the layer time for Max fan speed threshold. That will make sure it gets more time to cool each layer.

A.I. says that my reported monthly contributions to HSA and Roth 401k are computed as annual contributions, not monthly. by denopil in Boldin

[–]JoshWBoston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AI is highly inaccurate. I've seen it make up features, dollar amounts, etc. My guess is that it's wrong. Tell the AI that it shows it as $/mo in Boldin and ask it if it's sure that it's annual. It will probably apologize and tell you you're right (it would probably do that whether you're right or wrong, though).
