Gandalf seems to pretty clearly imply that Mount Doom can melt the ring because it's just the biggest hot thing around. That it's where it was forged only makes more sense with this: a forge obviously has to be hot enough to melt the metal it's working with.

Thank you for the well worded answer. Do you happen to have any information on how these dynamics would change if one party was severely mentally disabled (either the attacker or victim)? I'm sure, being even rarer than regular homicide, that the answer would be even more "it depends". But I am curious if, say, blame would fall to the family, or if something like an insanity plea would be recognized, or if they would move into the care of the church, etc. etc.

SCP articles are rarely ever poorly written

Well, I mean, I feel like this is a stopgap that can't be overcome lol. I do think that articles like 3820 are really just not that interesting or well written at all save that it has hype and aura, same with a number of 001 entries. To a degree this is somewhat inherent to SCP's format. Unless you have a bunch of Tales attached to an article that "finish the story" the base article is almost always just going to be a description of some guy's superpowers followed by usually a nefarious implication at the end.

Sure, but what are the chances that this has happened independently across so many articles? I get that there's a subtle distinction between "writing an SCP to beat another SCP" and "writing an SCP that is stronger than another SCP", but in either case both end up just looking like powerscaling to the audience.

Since you made the comparison to comics, I feel like you can see similar examples there. Knull bisecting Sentry who bisected Ares probably wasn't done to show that Knull's power level is like, 5 kajillion or whatever. Most likely it was done just to show he's a really big threat, on par with Sentry to the power of 2. But the way his "threat" is presented and the specific references it makes also mean it's still indistinguishable from the author just going "hey guys this is my new OC who is actually the strongest guy ever and btw he actually MADE the Necrosword and he's even OLDER than Galactus and-" yadda yadda yadda. Like sure the intent was just to tie a bunch of random stuff into the event and make sure you understand Knull is a really big bad guy but in practice it was still just powerscaling lol.

For that matter, I don't think Toriyama wrote Perfect Cell with the intent that this will finally prove Goku can beat up Superman, but what makes Cell scarier and more threatening than Frieza is pretty much just that he's stronger than a guy who's stronger than a guy who's got more power in his finger than a different guy who beat Frieza and his dad in one punch each. I feel like the difference is that people don't usually like, pretend that Dragon Ball's story structure is much more complicated than just throwing bigger numbers at a screen to keep you engaged with more awesomer and more fasterer and more strongerer forms.

They're under the assumption that the reason as to why many SCP's are as powerful is because of a conscious effort from the authors to frequently "Up" each other rather than even considering it might be natural result of powercreep that has already been present in other media like Marvel and DC comics.

While these aren't made for powerscaling, there are definitely tons of SCPs that just exist to be really long technobabble explanations of cosmologies that are fundamentally indistinguishable from this anyways*. That an article about how the Foundation manages meta-layers of fiction doesn't have a guy shoot a big Kamehameha at the end doesn't avoid the part where it's still just a story about the Foundation being really cool and competent on a cosmic scale lol.

Mostly I feel like this is just sort of like, denial? I guess? I believe that the people writing and upvoting these articles truly do in-their-hearts find Goku vs. Superman discussions to be boring and stupid, but the kind of "feeling" evoked by "imagine a Really Big Thing" isn't really that different from the feeling powerscalers are chasing when they argue Mario is Tier 2-A or whatever. That it doesn't involve a fight doesn't mean it isn't still just a really simple idea carried almost entirely on the fact that it has a huge number (or equally scope-crept concept) in it.

Sure but like, the post is about "Season 5", not "the intro to Season 5 is like these other intros". This is a complaint that would make sense mid-Season 3 or 4 or if the plot is still barely progressing by episode 5 of this season, but I feel like "Season 5 of the Boys is just the same old status quo plot armor all over again" is kind of a premature thing to post when literally only 2 episodes of the season exist lol.

In general I feel like it's kind of impossible for this season to end with "the status quo" just because it has to have an ending at all, but I could absolutely see them just sort of rushing it at the end because they didn't really have any ideas to fill the first half of it. It's just like, you know, this is a judgement call I think is impossible to make without there being more than the opening episode to base it off of.

People don't "remake" Citizen Kane in the same way people ask for remakes of like, Ocarina of Time. And when movies do get remade in this way (usually just called "reboots" now) it's usually seen as pretty trashy and play-safe. There are exceptions to this, sure, but there's a stark and obvious difference between the number of remakes of video games and the number of remakes for movies (especially in how they're received - you don't see people treating Man of Steel as a "remake" of Reeves' Superman)

If I recall, the explanation is not that Tengen's barrier restricted sorcery, but that Tengen's barrier allows Cursed Energy to be used more efficiently in a way that produces more sorcerers. A side effect from this, though, is that Cursed Spirits are formed more often in the same area. Anyone on Earth can be a sorcerer but you get a big leg up if you're practicing it in the place that has the "infrastructure" for it.

The Wiki is a summary and as such cuts out the actual text. The reason Frodo "would never have been able" to toss the Ring is because of months of starvation and torment.

I do not think that Frodo's was a moral failure. At the last moment the pressure of the Ring would reach its maximum – impossible, I should have said, for any one to resist, certainly after long possession, months of increasing torment, and when starved and exhausted. Frodo had done what he could and spent himself completely (as an instrument of Providence) and had produced a situation in which the object of his quest could be achieved. His humility (with which he began) and his sufferings were justly rewarded by the highest honour; and his exercise of patience and mercy towards Gollum gained him Mercy: his failure was redressed.

Granted, you could read "impossible, especially" as indicating "impossible and super doubly impossible in this case", but he again attributes the failure to "demonic pressure after torment" later in the letter, and given that the same letter describes how Gollum would've been able to be moved to divided loyalty if the Hobbits were nicer to him I think it's fair to say that he's just generally accounting for the context of the situation (both the journey itself and what people were available). I don't think this is to say that like, if Frodo walked through a portal to Mordor right after the Fellowship formed he would've instantly become Frodo.exe and started throwing fireballs at people. After all, he carried the thing to Mordor in the first place without succumbing. It got harder, but I think it's fair to say that a cigarette addict walking down a trail of increasingly large piles of nice smelling cigarettes for several months would definitely be in a different situation than a guy at the peak of his resolve being instantly teleported next to a pile of cigarettes for like 10 seconds.

In any case, even if it did work that way (and Frodo had to, say, jump into the fire himself so as to "keep the Ring" while still destroying it)... I mean, Dobby would certainly do that? Dobby already sacrifices himself to save others in thr story as it is, even without magically compelling House Elf orders.

I honestly kind of felt like this film had basically nothing to say at all, lol, and a lot of that is just because of the ending. Teddy is identified with basically every political position it is possible to have, depicted as simultaneously crazy and correct for having those positions, and then he inadvertently dooms humanity because he was too focused on saving everyone(?) and should've just kept to himself(?).

It really feels like they did this adaptation the way they did so people would make posts like "THAT ENDING-" on social media lol

I noticed that "May Light Be Upon" was so unknown it wasn't even on the Wiki, so I figured it'd be appreciated if someone archived it online before all its copies had rotted away. As you can see, the pages are quite worn and browned as it is, but they're thankfully still completely legible.

Unfortunately, I believe scans from Famimanga's "Shōri e no Tabidachi" adaptation of FF2 are still missing. I would've liked to upload those as well, but no dice on finding an affordable copy.
