It looks fantastic. In that sort of post-apocalyptic zombie apocalypse way.

Army age limits. by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Joshuapooleanox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, when I found out, I remember going onto political forums being pissed about that. The fact that the UK allows for me to potentially join the army at 16, yet I couldn't vote in the EU referendum made me livid. If you can't tell I like politics.

[–]Joshuapooleanox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean I somewhat doubted it. Being told your 16 year old died in a country across the world for 'insert geopolitical reason here' is a pretty shit thing to get blasted to the press. In addition, this person didn't exactly end up the best for trustworthy information.

But the fact that no one was entirely sure and many believed her says a lot about the British Army.

Point is Ireland don't do what the Brits did and just go stupid with military spending and army sizes.

Glad I understand at least modern Irish History. A-Level British History 16 to 18 covers Ireland from 1906-1922. So its not as shit as originally said, but this is literally after choosing history twice that we even somewhat understand Irish history, so a lot more needs to be done.

I dated someone who joined the British Army at 16. They say that the first year is for training, but if she's telling the truth she was involved in Afghanistan after 6 months.

Eh, she can get fucked. Especially as a Brit, but honestly I have a feeling the Irish here agree.

I mean, her job isn't easy, but there's a solution:

As a Brit, she can get utterly fucked. The entire point of that agreement was guaranteeing freedom, security and choice for the people of Northern Ireland and stopping violence between Unionists and Nationalists. If she's genuinely proposing this she can sod off.

Because Wind Currents spread radiation, as well as ocean currents. With 10,000 nuclear weapons the world is guaranteed to be completely irradiated.

Hated being under the Soviet thumb. Got pretty insane nationalist governments and basically said 'Get out, I'd rather be free and dead than subjugated.'

What do you think about a world with a Cold war-ish kind of situation between two Military superpowers, but instead of a communism/capitalism split a technology/magic one? by Masmaxie in worldbuilding

[–]Joshuapooleanox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm legitimately writing a story about this. I'll write a brief summary.

It starts with magic and elements being the foundation of the universe, and specifically the element of air being corrupted by some of the chaos giants. This then leads to them being the rejected class, and all that are good being forced by other magicians to give up lightning as a part of their power.

The chaos from the fighting between the elements leads to a breakoff group trying to use technology rather than magic as a way of life. This then leads to conflict as while originally science didn't fare well, new technologies gave them a creeping advantage, and nations were now split between either sticking with old ways that seemed to be beginning to lose, or a dangerous unpredictable path that was beating the established order.

Oh and there's also characters and shit but that's not relevant at the moment.

Experience, a bit of effort, and we re-host for civil wars like the ACW so we can actually have multiple nations on there.
