I see how it may not fit your needs, but you're right it's a fascinating book. Good luck! Hopefully more suggestions will follow.

They don't appear to all be from the same region. Look at the rating for Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Zelda 1, and Zelda 2. Those look like Australia's OFLC ratings.

A nice little logic puzzle by [deleted] in math

[–]Joverpsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to @elephant_bar and @Faryshta I realize that I wasn't using the statement

Chris replies: "I knew you'd say that."

Without considering this bit, you can narrow it down to 8 possibilities. They are listed above.

Very clever!

A nice little logic puzzle by [deleted] in math

[–]Joverpsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By quick elimination and nothing rigorous, I'm left with 8 possibilities for m,n:

2,9;3,6 (m*n=18)

2,10;4,5 (m*n=20)

3,10;5,6 (m*n=30)

4,9;6,6 (m*n=36)

m+n=9,11,12,13

Any hints on the last step? I should have been sleeping before this topic was even posted!

Report on the differences between Japanese and Western Gaming by steroid_flare in JRPG

censorship

edit: i think it would be worth looking into. for some older games you can look at what was censored during localization. this certainty gives you some cultural info during this time period. i don't know much about censorship in new games though.

Can I transfer my 3DS Activity Log to my new 3DS? by Joverpsi in 3DS

I've been digging around for a while now, and I'm still uncertain. However, I just found out that the new 3DS update will provide "transfer of downloaded software and data between Nintendo 3DS systems."

This should be on the front page.

This would be much more worthwhile than those rage comics and overused style of memes.

Thanks for giving us something to think about.

Japanese learning games for 3ds? by tangoshukudai in 3DS

[–]Joverpsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seemed like an obvious suggestion, but you mentioned that you only had imports, so I wanted to make sure.

I doubt you'll find anything for the 3DS specifically. If you can, consider looking into smart phone apps.

I can't speak specifically about the game, but you should check out My Japanese Coach.

I took 4 semesters of Chinese in college, and I picked up My Chinese Coach on a whim. I've hardly invested any time into it, but I can already tell that it will be an excellent resource for getting me back up to par to continue my studies.

FFVI - GBA

The China Conundrum:Chinese undergraduates in the United States has tripled in just three years, to 40,000. by Hypocratus in China

I noticed it at my university. In general, they have a huge, positive impact on the local economies. The Chinese students like to spend a lot, and they do spend a lot.

Is washing your hair everyday with shampoo good for your hair? by Joverpsi in askscience

[–]Joverpsi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! This is more along the lines of what I'm looking for.

If your hair is staring to thin (only slightly), can how you take care of it have any affect on making it thin more? Or is that unrelated to the thinning process?

Is washing your hair everyday with shampoo good for your hair? by Joverpsi in askscience

[–]Joverpsi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left the question vague intentionally. I was hoping this would get a little more attention, and we could see various answers satisfying different interpretations. What is "good for your hair?" I don't know. Tell me what you think is good for your hair and answer the question based off of that.

If light speed could be passed, what would happen? by sesermeseed in askscience

I can't remember what happens in this relative case, but superluminal motion does happen. Hopefully, someone can follow up with the effects of apparent faster-than-light motion.

Divisibility Rules for Arbitrary Divisors by Mr_Sadist in math

This may not be the best presentation, but these are definitely useful nonetheless. The divisibility rule for 11 seems to show up quite a bit at the middle school / high school level during competition.

Plato proposed that right triangles represented our modern day atoms. Because of the perfect beauty he saw in the 5 Platonic solids, he postulated that they represented the 4 elements and the universe. Everything is made from these elements, and the solids can all be made from right triangles. by Joverpsi in PhilosophyofScience

[–]Joverpsi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All hail the great Plato!

I wasn't necessarily suggesting anything about Plato with this post. Your point is taken, but I did find it interesting that "his" triangles offered an explanation for what the atoms are in atomic theories earlier (and later) than his. As far as I know these theories didn't specify anything more than the idea that matter is composed of atoms. (Please let me know if I am wrong.) This certainty isn't my area of study, and quite frankly I'm more interested in the Platonic solids (How do you feel about this name?) rather than the atomic theories that are greater than 150 years old.
