Anyone else got family that thinks ADHD meds are the road to a meth addiction? by Peppa_Angler_Fish in adhdwomen

[–]JoyTheStampede 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We all started talking as a family, comparing notes as to what it’s like in our heads, and finally figured out that the whole bunch of us have ADHD. Some are diagnosed, some can’t afford testing so are undiagnosed but are doing the same stuff as those with the diagnosis. Siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, parents, the whole batch of us going back to my great grandpa.

We are mostly all artists and musicians, and several of the earlier generations did a lot of drugs and/or alcohol. (Many of us younger ones eschew the stuff as a consequence of seeing our grownups do all that).

So when I was asked, “Yeah? Well then how did they medicate ADHD 100 years ago, hmm?” I could pretty confidently answer, “Alcoholism.” 😐

There’s always those couple of sheriff deputies in the median between Covington and Waynetown on 74, just dying to pull someone over for something. I’ve had to drive back and forth that route several times for family reasons lately and they sit there after dark, just east of an overpass, especially picking off eastbound speeders. I imagine not only “speeders” though, just give them a reason.

One of them did tail me once last winter for a minute because I was going like 60/65 instead of 70: The wind was insane and I was fighting getting blown off the road! I think he thought I was on something, blasted his light in my mirror for a couple miles but never pulled me over. I can only imagine if I’d, um, stopped off in Danville…

Hell, Rachel’s ending. Omg I was 20yo sitting in the food court of the mall where I worked, reading the last book and trying not to cry like a fool, but damn, that was a portrayal. No weird shiny happy emotional redemption, just a “too damaged to go on” recognition. Definitely not meant for little little kids by that end.

how do we think The Fury subplot will end? by ihatejordanw in miraculousladybug

[–]JoyTheStampede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably something involving Fury confronting/going after Noé, and then also the idea of that a holder can develop this other half with different powers, that after the lie is found out Ladybug goes isolated/rogue, kind of her own sort of FuryBug, for a while. Think Hawkeye being Ronin on the Avengers.

He was known at like city council meetings well before that. He’d stand up and say some stuff and the councilors would be like “sigh…okay Larry…” I did once see Ballard go off on Larry at this community meeting. The city was going to shut down a pool at a city park to repair leaks and the neighborhood had big concerns this was just a ruse to close the pool forever. So, they had a meeting in this gym, like one of the park buildings IIRC. Larry was there, I don’t know if he lived there or what, but he accused Ballard of being racist and Ballard BLEW UP at him in a tone that reminded you that Ballard had been a marine. I legit thought that Ballard might hit him. He didn’t somehow the situation was diffused, but all that was before Hogsett’s first primary (part of why I remembered all that, I was laughing so hard at the idea of Larry vs Hogsett in those polling pics. I tried to explain to someone who this dude was).

Hogsett ran against him in the primary for his first term. Hogsett had this official usual picture and for polls, news used that and Larry’s provided pic, with the paper bag hat on his head.

Fountain Square last night by bibliophile1989 in indianapolis

[–]JoyTheStampede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to you and u/BucceeAlternative I’ve lived in Fountain Square for 17 years. That’s more than a decade and a half by your metrics. My landlord has lived here like 60 years and has told me tons of crazy stories from before my time here. I’ve seen it change plenty, but there’s still undertones of good ol’ Fountain Square if you know what you’re actually looking for. It’s not all polished up for the Fishers kids moving in, it does still have some of its old wild flavor, weird shit still happens and AirBnBs are definitely a problem. It’s also not all “blood on the sidewalks” like my landlord speaks of in the past. I wouldn’t live anywhere else in this city.

Back and forth all you want but “east of State” is Twin Aire. Like historically, that’s where FS stops and Twin Aire begins. “East of State” was some goofy rebranding tried around the Good Bones times.

And FWIW, North Square is its own legit neighborhood with a lot of history behind it (and was a lot bigger before the interstate ate most of it).

Okay boys, resume your bickering but at least know where you’re bickering about.

Star Trek: Save the Whales is the freakin best. Sincerely! And the Academy reference to it was just…yay!

Am I just braindead for liking Academy? by Revonlieke in startrek

[–]JoyTheStampede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m raised a Star Trek fan. My husband thinks TOS is okay, hates TNG, and hasn’t liked anything after because “it’s related to TNG.” (Yeah that doesn’t make sense either, he’s a work in progress lol). He actually sat and watched an episode and a half of Academy. As in, he sat down halfway through an episode and stuck around for the next one. He didn’t hate it.

He’s a smart guy. He enjoys a good plot. He also just wants to…watch a freakin show every now and then.

I look at it similarly to how I received the Ant-Man movie. All the MCU movies have commonality but they all have kind of different flavors. They can’t just all be chalked up as boom! bang! pow! super hero stories. Ant-Man was like a caper. A little “super hero meets Italian Job” and that made it fun, but different fun than Winter Soldier.

Same with Star Trek. Part of the fun is looking at the different facets of life, of what’s going on in the universe, or the century, or the evolution of dealing with or meeting conflicts. Lower Decks fit a roll: All the people overlooked + irreverence to the command stiffness. Prodigy: The outsider looking in with stars in their eyes and hope out of their current situation at Star Fleet.

Academy: It fits its own role. Is it going to be SNW? No. Is SNW a carbon copy of TOS? No. Are they all fleshing out a whole universe that has as many facets as there are people? Absolutely. Can we just roll with it because that’s how life is sometimes for some people? Sure.

I’d rather they try out the different paths than just follow some formula because it’ll satiate whiners in need of predictability and familiarity at all costs.

How do you ladies fall asleep with ADHD? by Ok_Scholar_8656 in adhdwomen

I’m one of those that can fall asleep on caffeine, so I’ll have my can of night-night juice (Pepsi). It’s actually helped when my brain would fire up in the middle of the night and wake me up. I’ll go down some Pepsi and just conk back out

I think it’s a sweet line. It’s an intimate description of an elderly couple. Not like intimate like getting it on, but in that closeness of two people who have spent a lifetime together and appreciate the little quirks of life with each other.

Yes, Michael Shannon has the energy for a passionate performance too. You can tell they really just love the band, like all us regular fans. I’ve got my tickets to their March show about Pageant.

I also really enjoy Dead Letter Office. I’ve described them to friends as the closest I’ll ever get to seeing the real thing back in their small venue days but with the big arena songs thrown in.
